The San Jose Earthquakes and Houston Dynamo both picked two players in todays MLS Re-Entry Draft, while New England Revolution, Montreal Impact, Orlando City and FC Dallas also made a selection. All 14 other teams passed on selecting any player in the second stage of the re-entry draft.
Bakary Soumare was the first player selected as the Montreal Impact took the 29-year-old defender. Soumare spent five of his seven MLS seasons with the Chicago Fire and will hope to bolster the Impact’s backline next year.
The San Jose Earthquakes picked up experienced defender Marvell Wynne and 25-year-old winger Sanna Nyassi. Wynne has been in MLS since 2006 and has made at least 21 appearances in nine of those ten campaigns. Nyassi spent last season with the Chicago Fire and registered one goal and one assist in ten appearances.
The Houston Dynamo also picked up two players by selecting Chandler Hoffman and Nathan Sturgis. 24-year-old striker Hoffman has only made 15 appearances in three MLS seasons to this point while Sturgis returns to Houston where he played five times in 2012. The 27-year-old has played for seven MLS clubs and will hope to find some consistency with the Dynamo in 2015.
FC Dallas also picked up a former player in Atiba Harris. The 29-year-old midfielder played for Dallas between 2009-2010 before playing for the Vancouver Whitecaps, Colorado Rapids and most recently the San Jose Earthquakes, where he scored four goals in 24 appearances last season.
Elsewhere, MLS Cup runners-up New England Revolution opted to select 23-year-old forward Tristan Bowen. Bowen spent last season with the Seattle Sounders but only saw 60 minutes of action.
And finally, expansion side Orlando City continued to add to their squad by adding backup goalkeeper Josh Ford. The 27-year-old had been with the Sounders for four seasons by hasn’t made an MLS appearance as of yet.
