Preseason is underway.
All 20 Major League Soccer clubs have returned to training this week and 2014 MLS Cup champions, LA Galaxy were the first to play a game as they build up to the season opener against the Chicago Fire on March 6.
Bruce Arena watched the Galaxy run out 2-0 winners against the Ventura County Fusion on Wednesday at StubHub Center Track and Field Stadium, with Robbie Keane and Edson Buddle netting the goals.
Keane scored the Galaxy’s last goal of 2014 as his extra-time strike in the final won the MLS Cup for the team, and he has started the new year off in the same fashion.
Buddle is back in Los Angeles on trial with the Galaxy after leaving the Colorado Rapids at the end of the last campaign and he will be pleased to have found the net as he looks to earn a contract with the club he scored 42 goals for between 2007-2010.
A total of 24 players got minutes for the Galaxy in the win and Arena was pleased to let his players work their way back towards match fitness.
“It’s a practice exercise,” Arena told the club’s official website after the game. “It’s the first time that we’ve gone out this year and it’s good to allow the guys to play a little bit and work toward match fitness.”
The LA Galaxy’s next game will be against the Seattle Sounders next Friday.
