Giovinco was originally set to join the club in the summer but the deal to bring him to MLS was pushed forward on Monday and his career with Toronto can now begin properly as he has left Juventus.
The 28-year-old forward will be expected to provide the creative spark in attack that the Reds have been missing and he will look forward to teaming up with fellow Designated Players Jozy Altidore and Michael Bradley when the pair return to Toronto from the USMNT camp next week.Embed from Getty Images
Giovinco’s signing has filled supporters with so much excitement ahead of the 2015 season but the Italian knows that he must repay the fans with exciting performances on the pitch this year.
“Thank you to all the people that came to meet me at the airport,” Giovinco said after landing in Canada. “I will try to pay them back on the field.
“I wanted to find a city, a team that from the beginning would welcome me.”
It looks as though the ‘Atomic Ant’ has got his wish already as the welcome from Toronto fans was incredible.
