Southampton vs. West Ham United – Premier League
Venue: St Mary’s Stadium – Wednesday, February 11th – 19:45
Match Odds: Southampton 7/10 – Draw 11/4 – West Ham 15/4
West Ham also have European ambitions as they are chasing a Europa League finish but the Hammers will need to pick up more wins away from home to ensure they finish as high as possible.
Southampton beat Queens Park Rangers 1–0 on Saturday and Manchester United’s draw at West Ham kept the Saints in third place. They have won four of their last five with their only defeat in that time coming in that 1-0 home loss to Swansea 10 days ago.
Southampton’s European claims are getting stronger and stronger with Ronald Koeman’s men looking up the table rather than down. The Dutchman has done an extraordinary job after the selling of so many key players during the summer. The Saints’ record at home this season has been fantastic having lost only three home games all campaign.
Southampton’s home record in the Premier League: Played 12 – Won 7 – Drew 2 – Lost 3
West Ham will be looking to get some points back on the board as following their impressive start to the season the Hammers have now only won one in six Premier League games with that victory coming against Hull City.
They did come close to sealing all three points against Manchester United on Sunday but Daley Blind’s late equaliser left West Ham stunned and they will need to respond quickly in this midweek fixture.
West Ham’s away record in the Premier League: Played 11 – Won 3 – Drew 4 – Lost 4
Southampton could be one point behind second placed Manchester City by the end of the midweek matches if the Citizens lose their game against Stoke, and a tricky game against Liverpool is next up for the Saints after West Ham.
In the reverse fixture back in August at Upton Park Southampton cruised to a 3-1 against the Hammers with Morgan Schneiderlin helping himself to two of the three goals that day.
That game was the only time West Ham have conceded more than two goals in a league game this season and they will be desperate for revenge on Wednesday night.
