Competition: CONCACAF Champions League Quarterfinal Second-Leg
Venue: Olympic Stadium – Tuesday, March 3 – 20:00 ET (01:00AM GMT Wednesday 4)
Match Odds: Montreal Impact 2/1 – Draw 12/5 – Pachuca 13/10
The Impact went 2-0 up against all odds but Pachuca battled back to tie the game and piled pressure on in the later stages of the game. The draw was a good result for Montreal and the two away goals could prove to be crucial.
Dilly Duka netted both of the Impact’s goals on the night and he looked a real threat throughout. Montreal’s counter-attacking approach to the game worked to perfection before Pachuca fought back in the second-half.
Match highlights from the first-leg (via CONCACAF on YouTube):
It will be interesting to see how both sides approach this game as Montreal could look to sit back and break on the counter once again as the cushion of the two away goals will see them through if the game ends 0-0 or 1-1.
Pachuca showed they can be dangerous though and the Impact will need the home crowd to try and influence the game. Montreal have sold 30,000 tickets ahead of the second-leg and so a great atmosphere is expected.
A key point to note is that Pachuca lost 3-2 to Club Tijuana in a Mexican league game on Saturday despite leading 2-0 at halftime and that could be a psychological dent for the four-time winners of the competition.
The Montreal Impact won both of their home group stage games 1-0 and will be hoping for a similar result to ensure they advance to the semifinals of the Champions League, where they will face either Alajuelense or the only other remaining MLS side in the competition, DC United.
Montreal Impact’s last five in the CCL: W/W/W/D/D
Pachuca’s last five in the CCL: W/W/W/L/D
Key Stat: Pachuca conceded three goals in both of their away games in the group stages but scored nine in total in those two games. Expect goals in Montreal on Tuesday.
Key Player: Dilly Duka – The new Montreal man bagged a brace in the first-leg last week and looked a real threat throughout. Expect him to cause more problems for Pachuca.
Montreal Impact 3-2 Pachuca – Expecting an incredibly entertaining game with Montreal just edging it. The huge home crowd will play a part and can give the Impact the best possible start to the new season with a place in the semifinals of the CONCACAF Champions League. Pachuca will be a threat going forwards but defensive frailties are likely to cost them.
