Competition: Major League Soccer – Seattle Sounders vs San Jose Earthquakes
Venue: CenturyLink Field – Saturday, March 15 – 22:00 ET (02:00 GMT – Sunday 15)
Match Odds: Seattle 1/2 – Draw 3/1 – San Jose – 11/2
There were opposite fortunes on the opening weekend for the two sides as Seattle comfortably beat New England Revolution 3-0 at home, while San Jose lost 1-0 away to FC Dallas.
Seattle will be heavy favourites for this one, especially when taking into account the fact that San Jose have failed to win in their last 16 MLS games.Embed from Getty Images
Couple that with a Sounders front line that boasts Obafemi Martins and Clint Dempsey and this one looks like a Seattle win is almost a certainty.
It is however, not all doom and gloom for the Earthquakes as they were only beaten in added time by a very good Dallas side last week. A Blas Perez winner sealed that game but San Jose gave a good account of themselves and have positives to build upon.
The Quakes are underdogs here, and a Seattle win is to be expected. However, anything can happen in MLS and you can never fully rule any result out.Embed from Getty Images
This will be another chance to see just how good Seattle are after last week’s comfortable win and the key battle will be San Jose’s defence against Seattle’s deadly strike partnership.
The three meetings last season were evenly split as both teams won 1-0 on home soil before playing out a 1-1 draw at CenturyLink Field in the most recent meeting.
Seattle Sounders: Osvaldo Alonso is still a few weeks away from being match fit as he has been dealing with a groin problem. We’re expecting the Sounders to be unchanged from the New England game after such a commanding display.
San Jose Earthquakes: Clarence Goodson and Jordan Stewart are both doubtful as they missed the Dallas game last weekend. Mark Sherrod and Steven Lenhart are both out but new Designated Player Innocent Emeghara will be pushing for a first start up front.

Key Player: Clint Dempsey – After scoring a brace on the opening weekend, we expect Dempsey to cause havoc and don’t be surprised if he ends up with a hat-trick. He looked in the mood last week and always plays best at home.
Seattle Sounders 2-0 San Jose Earthquakes – The Quakes are not strong enough to cause an upset in Seattle this weekend and the Sounders should go on to record another comfortable victory. Back-to-back clean sheets would be another major positive for the Sounders and San Jose’s attack is unlikely to threaten too much.
