Former Liverpool teammate says Steven Gerrard has to start against United

Steven Gerrard has been in and out of the Liverpool side all season but Sky Sports columnist Jamie Redknapp believes he has to start in tomorrow’s huge clash with rivals Manchester United at Anfield.

Gerrard has made 23 Premier League appearances so far this season and scored six goals. He came off the bench and steadied the game against Swansea on Monday night, helping Liverpool to record their fifth league win on the bounce.

This will be Steven Gerrard’s last big game against Manchester United for Liverpool and Redknapp thinks his inclusion in the side is vital.

“Gerrard is a leader and these are the games when Liverpool need him in their team. It would be a mistake by Rodgers not to start him on Sunday.

“Victory for either side would mean so much in the race for a top-four spot.”

Gerrard has eight goals in the Premier League against United, four of them coming from the penalty spot and in a high intensity game his calm-headed approach could be vital.
