Real Salt Lake are also on eight points but are just one of two sides who have yet to suffer defeat and they look strong.
RSL beat San Jose 1-0 last weekend thanks to a fine goal from Javier Morales and Jeff Cassar has seen his side keep clean sheets in both of their away games so far.
This game will see the 2013 MLS Cup finalists go head-to-head for just the second time since that game, with last year’s only meeting ending 0-0 at Sporting Park.Embed from Getty Images
Real Salt Lake have not won in Kansas City in their last five trips and have never won at Sporting Park, so Sporting KC will be confident of inflicting a first defeat on their Western Conference rivals this weekend.
Sporting Kansas City will be without Chance Myers (achilles) and Graham Zusi (hamstring) once again. Dom Dwyer will start in attack and looked much better last weekend as he scored his first of the season against the Union. Krisztian Nemeth will be pushing for a start after coming off the bench to win last week’s game.
Real Salt Lake are set to be without five players for the trip to Kansas City as Joao Plata (foot), Sebastian Jaime (leg), Demar Phillips (hamstring), Justen Glad (knee) and Pecka (hip) all look set to miss out through injury. Luis Gil is likely to come in for Jordan Allen in the only change from last week’s win.

Key Player: Benny Feilhaber – The Sporting midfielder leads MLS in assists with four after picking up two last weekend and will look to be as influential this weekend.
Sporting Kansas City 1-1 Real Salt Lake – Both sides are looking good and will want to avoid defeat against playoff rivals this weekend. A draw is the most likely outcome but it should be an entertaining game.
