Arsenal legend and England goalkeeper, David Seaman, has revealed that he thinks Chelsea‘s Thibaut Courtois has the edge over Manchester United‘s David De Gea ahead of their Premier League clash this weekend.
De Gea’s impressive performances have attracted interest from Real Madrid and the Spaniard is a contender for the PFA Player of the Year award, but Seaman told Sky Sports the Chelsea ‘keeper is better.Embed from Getty Images
“For me it’s Courtois,” the former England international said. “He’s been solid and shown his class. At Chelsea you don’t get a great deal to do [as a goalkeeper], but when he’s been called on he’s been fantastic.”
Seaman was quick to heap praise on De Gea but admits his early days at United helped make his decision easier.
“De Gea had a really dodgy start, but he’s shown his character and he’s now showing everybody why Manchester United bought him. He’s a quality keeper who makes some fantastic saves.”Embed from Getty Images
Seaman admits, as most ‘keeper do, that mistakes do happen and highlighted Courtois has nothing to worry about after conceding Charlie Adam’s 60-yard wonder goal, for which he came under scrutiny.
“Going back to Courtois – apart from the goal he let in against Charlie Adam he’s had a great season. I’d tell him: don’t worry, it happens to the best of us!”
The two ‘keepers can have the final say this weekend as their teams go head-to-head in a pivotal game in the Premier League title race at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
