Match Odds: Newcastle United 6/4 – Draw 12/5 – Norwich City 7/4

Match Preview

Newcastle United host Norwich City on Sunday afternoon, still looking to register their first win of the season.

Steve McClaren remains under pressure as Newcastle boss as the club sit bottom of the Premier League after eight games and there have been no signs of improvement.

The Magpies are struggling with a long injury list and will be without star goalkeeper Tim Krul for the rest of the season after he sustained a serious knee injury while on international duty.

Newcastle United’s Premier League record: P8 – W0 – D3 – L5

Norwich aren’t in much better form as they go into Sunday’s clash with no win in three.

Unbelievably, the Canaries have failed to win in 14 of their last 15 away clashes in the Premier League – form of a relegation-stricken side.

Norwich started the season well but have stuttered now and look set for a hard campaign. It will be tough for them to avoid the drop but with other clubs in worse position they could be safe this year.

Norwich City’s record in the Premier League: P8 W0 W2 D3 L3

This is a massive game for both sides, despite being so early in the season and the loser will be in real trouble.

Team News

Newcastle United will be without Tim Krul, Gabriel Obertan, Rolando Aarons, Karl Darlow, Steven Taylor, Emanuele Riviere, Curtis Good and Sylvain Marveaux through injury. Kevin Mbabu, Daryl Janmaat, Jack Colback, Massadio Haidara and Paul Dummett are doubts.

Norwich City have Lewis Grabban and Gary Hooper as doubts with ankle knocks. Youssouf Mulumbu is expected to be out till the end of the month with a fractured metatarsal.

Key Points

Newcastle United’s last five: L/L/L/D/L

Norwich City’s last five: L/W/D/D/L

Key Stat: Newcastle have won their last three home ties against Norwich in all competitions.

Key Player: Wes Hoolahan – The Irish playmaker has an incredible five assists this season from seven starts and is one of the first names on the team sheet at the moment. Expect him to cause Newcastle problems on Sunday.

Score Prediction

Newcastle United 0-2 Norwich City – Newcastle are yet to record a victory this season and there is a reason for that. We’re expecting a away win in this one as Steve McLaren’s problems look set to worsen.
