DC United have unveiled a new and updated logo for just the second time in their 20-year history ahead of the 2016 MLS season.
United hadn’t changed the club logo since 1997. The new crest might look more modern but the new look is meant to maintain a strong tie to club tradition, using an evolution of the existing brand rather than a complete overhaul to better represent the United community, according to the club.
The new logo follows plans to move into a new soccer-specific stadium at Buzzard Point in a move that DC United fans are extremely excited about.
“It’s a transformative time for our brand,” United chief operating officer Tom Hunt said in a team statement.
DC have enjoyed 20 seasons in Major League Soccer and are preparing for what they hope will be a successful 2016 campaign.
United were eliminated from the 2015 MLS Cup Playoffs by rivals New York Red Bulls but will look to bounce back as the new season looms.
