Competition: Premier League – Tottenham Hotspur vs. Newcastle United
Venue: White Hart Lane – Sunday, December 13 – 16:00 GMT (11:00 ET)
Match Odds: Tottenham 4/11 – Draw 4/1 – Newcastle 7/1
Tottenham have been extremely efficient recently, collecting 16 points from their last eight home games, with four clean sheets on the way. A more defensively solid unit has been developed and Spurs look genuine contenders for a top four finish.
Their unbeaten run has been in place since the opening day of the season where they lost 1-0 to Manchester United at Old Trafford and they are enjoying their longest unbeaten streak in league football in 30 years.
Spurs come into this one off the back of their Europa League win over Monaco in midweek and will be hoping that home comforts are fortuitous once again here.
Tottenham’s record in the Premier League: P15 – W6 – D8 – L1
Newcastle come into the game sat 18th in the table and are embroiled in the early season relegation scrap. With only one win in their last seven away games it is easy to see why.
During this baron run they have conceded eighteen goals and have only scored three in the process so there is no wonder they are underdogs for this tie.
There is room for optimism, however, after an amazing result and performance against Liverpool last weekend and will see Spurs as another potential scalp as they look to improve over the busy Christmas period.
Newcastle’s record in the Premier League: P15 – W3 – D4 – L8
Newcastle have beaten Spurs at White Hart Lane in each of the last two seasons and will be dreaming of making that three on the spin on Sunday.
Tottenham are missing Ryan Mason and Alex Pritchard, who both miss the match through ankle injuries. Eric Dier and Mousa Dembele are doubts and will face late fitness tests.
Newcastle will be without Mike Williamson, who is ruled out of the trip to White Hart Lane with a hamstring injury, while other players who will not feature this weekend are Jamaal Lascelles, Cheik Tiote, Massadio Haidara, Rolando Aarons, Tim Krul, Gabriel Obertan, Steven Taylor and Emmanuele Riviere.
Tottenham’s last five: W/D/W/D/D
Newcastle’s last five: D/W/L/L/W
Key Stat: Tottenham are undefeated in their last 14 Premier League matches – their longest unbeaten run in Premier League history.
Key Player: Dele Alli – Tottenham’s next prospect is quickly making a name for himself in the top flight and his athleticism and eye for goal should cause Newcastle problems on Sunday.
Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 Newcastle United – We expect Spurs to be the far superior team and for the Lillywhites to dominate possession and chance creation. They are unbeaten in 14 and we expect it to stretch to 15 with a fairly comfortable victory on Sunday.
