New England Revolution have suffered a major blow as new Designated Player signing Xavier Kouassi could be out of action for the whole of 2016 with a suspected torn ACL injury.
Kouassi, 26, signed a pre-contract agreement with the Revolution on February 1 in a deal that will make him one of New England’s DPs for the 2016 season once he joins the club in July.
The holding midfielder will remain under contract with Swiss club FC Sion until expiration on June 30, at which point he will complete his move to MLS.
However, Kouassi left Sion’s game with FC Zurich on Sunday with what is reported to be a torn ACL, with some Swiss reports claiming the once-capped Ivory Coast international could be sidelined ‘for 6-9 months’.
There has been no official confirmation on the extent of the player’s injury from either FC Sion or New England at this point but the early signs look worrying for the Revs and their new DP.
