Competition: Major League Soccer – New York Red Bulls vs. Montreal Impact
Venue: Red Bull Arena – Saturday, August 13 – 19:00 ET (00:00 BST)
Match Odds: NY Red Bulls – Draw – Montreal
Neither New York nor Montreal has managed back-to-back wins since June but both still find themselves in contention at the top end of the East.
The Red Bulls are in third place, one spot ahead of Montreal courtesy of goal difference so all is to play for here. Jesse Marsch watched his men throw away a two-goal lead at LA Galaxy last weekend and an immediate response to that setback will be required.
New York have won both of their last two home games and will fancy their chances back at Red Bull Arena. However, if Bradley Wright-Phillips misses out, their chances will take a knock.
Montreal Impact are ready to pounce, knowing a win would move them into the top three in the conference. They beat Houston 1-0 last weekend thanks to a Matteo Mancosu goal and will now be looking to win consecutive MLS matches for the first time since April.
The Impact are unbeaten in nine of their last ten regular season outings and have become a very tough team to break down.
This should be an intriguing battle, with the winner set to close the gap on NYCFC at the top to a point before they finish their game in Columbus.
Montreal Impact remain without Andres Romero, while Lucas Ontivero is a doubt with a knee injury. Didier Drogba will return to the team following his suspension and could partner Matteo Mancosu in attack.
The Red Bulls will be sweating over the fitness of Bradley Wright-Phillips after he left last weekend’s game in LA through injury. Elsewhere, Gideon Baah, Dax McCarty, Connor Lade and Damien Perrinelle are all out.
New York Red Bulls’ last five: W/D/W/D/D
Montreal Impact’s last five: D/L/W/D/W
Key Stat: Montreal Impact are unbeaten in their last four away games in MLS. They have never managed to go five road games without a defeat in franchise history.
Key Player: Sacha Kljestan – The Red Bulls playmaker is enjoying a solid season, having netted five goals with 11 assists in 23 matches. He scored in the clash with Montreal at Red Bull Arena last season and will look to be a thorn in the Canadian team’s side once more here.
New York Red Bulls 2-2 Montreal Impact – Goals are expected when these sides go head-to-head on Saturday evening, with both teams likely to fancy their chances. The Red Bulls have another worrying injury list and may not be at full strength. However, they are always a force at home and will expect to avoid defeat. They have drawn their last two games 2-2 and may have to settle for another point here against an Impact team that are tough to break down on their travels.
