Match Preview

Vancouver Whitecaps welcome Western Conference rivals Seattle Sounders to BC Place on Sunday in a tie that could have huge implications in the race for a playoff spot.

Vancouver are 8th in the West six points behind Seattle and the top six. They still have a chance of making the playoffs, with nine points left to play for.

The Whitecaps are in a dismal run of form, winning just once in their last 11 MLS outings. They come into this tie having drawn 3-3 with Colorado.

This is the third and final regular season meeting between Vancouver and Seattle. Whitecaps will be hoping to win the series 2-1 but know they are up against a Sounders side in good form.

Seattle Sounders vs Vancouver Whitecaps 2016

Seattle Sounders’ late surge for the playoffs has been impressive. They come into this one having won three on the bounce.

The latest of those three wins for Sounders was a cagey 1-0 victory over Chicago. They’re on 41 points with a game in hand, a win in that tie would put them into 5th.

Brian Schmetzer will be pleased with how his side have been playing and will expect them to take all three points here.

Sounders have won two of their last five on the road and have lost just one of those ties. They will be feeling confident but know regardless of form there is no such thing as an easy game.

Score Prediction

Vancouver Whitecaps 1-3 Seattle Sounders – Vancouver’s poor form to continue, all but putting them out of the running for a playoff finish. Seattle have looked impressive in their three consecutive wins and will be hoping to extend that run to four this time around.
