Chicago Fire welcome New England Revolution to Toyota Park on Saturday evening in what looks set to be a hard fought Eastern Conference match-up.
Veljko Paunović’s side come into this one having won at home against Columbus. They’re sitting 4th in the East, one point ahead of New England and boast a good record against their opponents this weekend, losing just once in the last 16 meetings in all competitions.
Chicago have given themselves a great platform to build for a playoff push this season. They seem to have a good balance throughout the side and will be difficult to breakdown.
New England have picked up in their last three, winning twice and drawing the other. Their back-to-back defeats at the start of the season already seem distant, but this is going to be a tough away tie.
Jay Heaps’s side come into this one having overcome Houston at home. If they can pick up a positive result here they put themselves in good shape heading into their next two home fixtures.
But the Revs have their work cut out against a Chicago side who have not lost in their last six home MLS games.
John Goossens is expected to be out for Chicago, while Matt Polster and Luis Solignac are both questionable.
New England Revolution have a clean bill of heath ahead of this one. Heaps may well decide to name the same starting XI who won last weekend.
Chicago Fire’s last five: D/W/L/D/W
New England’s last five: L/L/W/D/W
Key Stat: New England’s form on the road has been poor since the start of last season, they have failed to win in 12 of their last 13.
Key Player: Bastian Schweinstieger – Chicago’s marquee signing made an instant impact, scoring on his debut. He has the ability to dominate the battle in the middle and will no doubt be looking to get on the ball to make things happen.
Chicago Fire 2-1 New England Revolution – Chicago to extend their unbeaten run to three and continue their good form against New England. The Revs could potentially fall as low as 9th in the East by losing this game, which will make it a difficult result to take if other games go against them.
