NYCFC to sign Bilbao and Manchester City defenders in huge double move – report

New York City FC look set to reinforce their defence in a major way with the arrivals of two fullbacks in the coming weeks as Athletic Bilbao’s Andoni Iraola and Manchester City‘s Angelino are reportedly on the way to the Big Apple.

NYCFC have found some form in recent weeks after a far from convincing start to life in MLS and they won their second successive game on Saturday night in a 3-1 win against Montreal Impact.

And New York City fans look set for more good news as two defensive reinforcements are reportedly close to signing.

Andoni Iraola is looking likely to join on a free transfer when his contract with Athletic Bilbao expires at the end of the month.

The 32-year-old Spanish right-back has been with Bilbao for 12 years, making 510 appearances in that time, but now looks set to join NYCFC on a non-DP contract in the next few weeks.

Joining him could be Manchester City youngster Angelino. The 18-year-old left-back is highly regarded by NYCFC’s Premier League partner club and the chance to get regular first-team football in MLS should see him join on loan.

City have already loaned Shay Facey to New York City this season and Angelino would certainly give Jason Kreis options down the left, as the pacey Spaniard can play at left-back as well as further forward.

Both Spanish players will take up international slots on New York City FC’s roster if their signings are confirmed but they will undoubtedly strengthen the expansion franchise as they look to mount a playoff charge in the Eastern Conference.

Would Iraola and Angelino be good signings for New York City FC?
