Who will end the upcoming weekend top of the Premier League?

Manchester City‘s dropped points away at Everton last weekend mean that Chelsea opened up a two point gap at the top of the Premier League once again.

Chelsea travel to the Liberty Stadium to face Swansea City on Saturday and the Blues need to improve on their unconvincing win against Newcastle if they are to seal all three points.

City entertain Arsenal on Sunday afternoon in what we can expect to be the highlight of the upcoming weekend.

Manuel Pellegrini’s men will need to stop Alexis Sanchez, who is in great form, having added another two goals to his impressive tally of 12 in the league in the Gunners’ 3-0 win against Stoke on Sunday.

It’s unclear whether City talisman Sergio Aguero will start in the game this weekend but he made his return to action at Goodison Park last weekend and his return comes at the perfect time for the champions.

Manchester City’s home record this season: Played 10 – Won 7 – Drawn 2 – Lost 1

The Citizens haven’t lost a league game in 12 now and will hope for a similar result to last season’s against Arsenal as they won 6-3 in an incredible game at the Etihad.

Chelsea can go five points clear at the top of the table before City play on Sunday, but the pressure is on both sides and the weekly battle between the two is certainly an exciting one.

Diego Costa found his goalscoring touch once again after finding the back of the net in the 2-0 win over Newcastle and he will be the one to watch in the upcoming game with Swansea.

Chelsea’s away record this season: Played 11 – Won 5 – Drawn 4 – Lost 2

Chelsea haven’t been at their best away from home this season, but their 100% home record is keeping them just in front of City at this point.

They lost their last away game in the league at Spurs in that 5-3 thriller, and haven’t won away from home since before Christmas.

Our weekend’s Premier League predictions for the upcoming round of matches will be out towards the end of the week, so stay tuned!

Who do you think will end this weekend at the top of the Premier League table?

Premier League Preview and Prediction: Arsenal vs Stoke City

Stoke City travel to the Emirates to take on Arsenal on Sunday afternoon with the Gunners seeking revenge after they fell victim to a 3-2 loss in the reverse fixture this season.

The Potters are coming off the back of a three game unbeaten run that includes an away win at Everton, a home win against West Brom and an important draw against Manchester United on New Years Day.

Arsenal will be looking to bounce back from their below par performance last time out as they fell to Southampton in a 2-0 loss at St Mary’s, and need to win to keep tabs on the top four.

Arsenal’s home record: Played 9 – Won 5 – Drawn 3 – Lost 1

Much of the focus will be on the home side in this encounter as the Gunners are expected to have German international Mesut Ozil available once again and he could potentially start on Sunday.

Arsene Wenger’s has fielded an unbelievable twelve different combinations in defence this season. An unsettled backline being one of the reasons why Arsenal have struggled thus far.

And Mark Hughes will hope that Bojan can wreak havoc against the Arsenal defence as he did at the Britannia earlier in the season.

Stoke City’s away record: Played 10 – Won 3 – Drawn 3 – Lost 4

Stoke will be without Mame Biram Diouf however as the Senegal striker is away at the African Cup of Nations.

There is hope for this Arsenal side though, as they have won their last three at home in Premier League and enjoyed a 2-0 victory over Hull in front of their home fans last weekend in the FA Cup.

Their recent form against their opponents hasn’t been good enough however, as they have lost the last two meetings with Stoke. Could this be a third straight win against Arsenal for Mark Hughes’s men?

Preview and Prediction: Arsenal vs. Queens Park Rangers

Arsenal host Queens Park Rangers in the late game on Boxing Day and both sides will be hoping for a late Christmas gift with a win.

The Gunners are hoping to get back to winning ways after another disappointing result as they dropped two points at Liverpool in the dying seconds.

While QPR will be in fine spirits following an impressive comeback win against West Bromwich Albion on Saturday, led by man of the moment Charlie Austin, who netted a hat-trick.

Everything points towards an Arsenal win in this one though. The Gunners are unbeaten in 25 of their last 26 at the Emirates in the Premier League and have won their last two in front of their own fans.

Arsenal’s home record: Played 8 – Won 4 – Drawn 3 – Lost 1

While the R’s haven’t won away from home all season – in fact they’ve lost all eight games away from Loftus Road so far, scoring just three times.

Queens Park Rangers away record: Played 8 – Won 0 – Drawn 0 – Lost 8

Arsene Wenger’s side need a victory in this one. Anything else will intensify the pressure the club is currently under as they are currently four points off fourth place going into Christmas Day.

The Hoops have done well to go into Christmas outside of the relegation zone and will hope that they can take advantage of Arsenal’s inconsistent form by taking their first away points of the season from the game.

The Gunners have won three of the past four meetings with a narrow 1-0 victory and a similar result should be expected in what could be a tense game for the home fans.

Arsenal’s last five: W/W/L/W/D

Queens Park Rangers’ last five: W/L/W/L/W

Key Player: Alexis Sanchez – It’s worrying to think where Arsenal would be without Sanchez this season. The Chilean has netted five times in eight home games so far and will need to be the star again.

Prediction: Arsenal 1-0 Queens Park Rangers – The Gunners to edge past their London rivals with a narrow, but vital win.

Premier League Preview and Prediction: Liverpool vs. Arsenal

This week’s Sunday evening kickoff sees Arsenal travel to Anfield to take on Liverpool in search of redemption after the 5-1 beating they received there last season.

Hosts Liverpool are far from the force they were last season and lie in 11th place in the league table due to some indifferent performances this term.

Arsenal are much the same, however summer signing Alexis Sanchez has proved to be worth his price tag as he has inspired his side time and time again since arriving from Barcelona.

Sanchez has a total of nine Premier League goals this year and has laid on five assists for his teammates. An impressive season so far from the Chilean.

Liverpool have yet to fill the void left by Luis Suarez, who joined Barcelona this summer. Which in turn allowed Sanchez to join Arsenal.

The Reds have lost their talisman, and with it their title hopes. Last week’s 3-0 loss at Old Trafford leaves them needing a result against the Gunners.

Liverpool look low on confidence and defensively look weak. However, so do Arsenal and this could be an early Christmas present for neutrals as a result.

This is a tie that has always produced drama, and of course Anfield was the scene of the 4-4 that saw Andrey Arshavin score all four for the Gunners as Arsenal sneaked a point in 2009.

Last year’s 5-1 Liverpool win saw six goals in what was another memorable game, though not so much for fans of Arsenal.

Liverpool have lost four of their last seven in the league and were recently knocked out of the Champions League, so spirits need lifting on Merseyside.

Arsenal have scored in their last nine Premier League games and we don’t see that changing on Sunday.

Score Prediction: Liverpool 1 – 2 Arsenal

Key Player: Raheem Sterling – Many will say that Sanchez will decide this tie, but young Sterling has the potential to open this game up and cause havoc to this makeshift Arsenal defence.
