£35m-rated goal machine deals HUGE blow to Arsenal and Liverpool

Arsenal and Liverpool’s pursuit of Lyon’s goal machine, Alexandre Lacazette, has been dealt a huge blow as the 23-year-old striker says he will be with the French club next season, the Express has reported.

The Lyon forward is Ligue 1’s top scorer with 26 goals in 30 appearances and his form has attracted interest from clubs across Europe but any chances of a move away from the club is unlikely, despite the reported interest from the Premier League duo surrounding a £35 million move.

“I do not know what will happen, but at the moment I can say that I will play in Lyon next year,” Lacazette told Footmercato.net.

Arsene Wenger’s side could have mounted a stronger title charge had they had an out-and-out goalscorer this season. Olivier Giroud’s absence through injury certainly affected their chances of winning the Premier League as they have lacked depth in their frontline.

While Liverpool’s injury woes have probably cost them any chance of playing in the Champions League next season. Daniel Sturridge has barely featured this campaign, making just 12 Premier League appearances.

Brendan Rodgers’ gamble on signing Mario Balotelli looks as if it has backfired as the Italian has scored just once in the league and looks likely to move on this summer.

The Merseyside club have failed to replace Luis Suarez and Lacazette could have been an ideal acquisition, but Lyon are pushing Paris Saint Germain all the way for the Ligue 1 title and he will want to be playing in Europe’s top competition next season.

Lacazette appears to be settled for now, so it would appear both Premier League clubs will have to venture elsewhere in their search for a top striker this summer.

Would Alexandre Lacazette have been an ideal signing for Arsenal or Liverpool?

Arsenal linked with summer move for £20m midfield star

Arsenal have been linked with a summer move for £20 million-rated Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan, according to The Metro.

Gundogan is being targeted by Arsenal and Manchester United despite reports suggesting Dortmund want to sign him down to a new deal. But a move to the Premier League could be favourable as Dortmund are struggling to make the Champions League, sitting 10th in the Bundesliga.

Arsenal have been linked with a number of Europe’s top rated players, including the likes of Gonzalo Higuain, as manager Arsene Wenger is again expected to dip into the clubs funds this summer in an attempt to further strengthen the team to challenge for the Premier League title.

Gundogan has made 18 Bundesliga appearances so far this season, scoring three times with three assists, and at 24 could be an ideal replacement for Jack Wilshere, who has been linked with a move away from the club.

The German international already has a wealth of experience and after losing the 2013 Champions League final, will be hungry for success as his time in Germany could be drawing to a close.

Arsenal reportedly had an £18.4 million bid rejected in January but Dortmund’s poor season could see a move develop with the Gunners looking to be a strong force in Europe once again.

Is Ilkay Gundogan the right man for Arsenal and do they need sign the midfielder?

Arsenal and Liverpool chasing £40m starlet dubbed the ‘new Cristiano Ronaldo’

Arsenal and Liverpool have been quoted a £40 million asking price for Benfica starlet Goncalo Guedes, according to the Express.

Guedes is being monitored by both Premier League clubs after an impressive season, making 26 appearances for the reserve team, scoring seven goals and racking up 12 assists.

The 18-year-old looked set to leave the club on a free transfer last summer but Benfica have tied him down until 2021 and have included a £40 million release clause, according to Portuguese publication O Jogo.

Guedes is known for pace, trickery and flare – hence his likening to Ronaldo – and is the same age as his Portuguese counterpart when he signed for Manchester United back in 2003.

The news of his huge release clause comes as a huge blow to both Arsene Wenger and Brendan Rodgers, who were seemingly going to have the chance of signing the Portugal under-20 star on a free if they had made a move just eight months earlier.

The Benfica winger is one of the hottest prospects in Europe at the moment but a move this summer looks unlikely now as he has a long-term deal with the Portuguese giants, and he will be looking to break into the first-team.

Should Arsenal and Liverpool still make a move for Goncalo Guedes for £40 million?

Arsenal set to miss out on £10m Chelsea star as Inter move nears

Arsenal‘s pursuit of Petr Cech looks set to end in disappointment as the Chelsea goalkeeper is close to signing for Serie A outfit Inter Milan, according to the Express.

The Chelsea fan-favourite looks set to end his 11-year love affair with the Blues this summer after a frustrating season playing second fiddle to Thibaut Courtois.

Arsenal has been a rumoured destination for the Czech Republic international but that move looks all but over as Italian reports claim Cech is close to agreeing a deal that will see him join Roberto Mancini at Inter Milan.

Corriere dello Sport reported on the move for Cech from Inter, claiming the Nerazzurri will offer the 32-year-old shot-stopper a two-year deal with the option of a third.

It is also reported that current Inter keeper, Samir Handanovic, is refusing to sign a new contract with the club, further fuelling speculation of a move for Cech.

Cech has won an impressive 14 trophies with Chelsea during his 11 years in England and played a pivotal role in their Champions League final victory over Bayern Munich in 2012, so his experience is at the very highest level.

Arsenal, Liverpool, Spurs and Southampton have all been linked with a move for the Chelsea star, who Jose Mourinho values at £10 million but Inter Milan looks to be his next destination.

Arsenal set to beat United, City and Spurs to £33m-rated star

Arsenal are preparing a £33 million bid to see off Manchester United, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur interest in FC Porto star Yacine Brahimi, according to the Daily Star.

Brahimi caught the eye of some of the top clubs in Europe after displaying some impressive form in this seasons Champions League campaign with Porto, scoring five goals, including a hat-trick against BATE Borisov.

The Algerian winger has been in scintillating form since signing for the Portuguese champions last summer and has netted 11 goals in 29 appearances this season.

Portuguese reports have claimed Arsene Wenger has been monitoring the 25-year-old attacker and add that the Gunners are keen to beat their Premier League rivals to secure his services.

This has further fuelled speculation that Theo Walcott’s time as an Arsenal player is drawing to a close.

Arsene Wenger is reported to be looking to bolster his forward line over the summer to ensure they can mount a stronger title challenge next season.

The Gunners are currently second in the Premier League with seven games to go and Wenger seems to be on the money with his transfers after criticism in recent years that he was unwilling to sign top players.

Do you think Arsene Wenger will splash the cash on Yacine Brahimi this summer? Is he what Arsenal need?

Arsenal given boost in chase for £35m-rated former Real Madrid star

Arsenal‘s transfer links have been taking off over the last few weeks and the North London club are now favourites to sign former Real Madrid forward Gonzalo Higuain, according to the Telegraph.

Higuain reportedly isn’t interested in another season without Champions League football with Napoli, giving Arsenal the green light to make a move for the Argentine should the Serie A side fail to finish in the top three.

Napoli’s push for Europe’s top competition is looking bleak after their loss to rivals Roma and Higuain has a wealth of experience in the Champions League, having scored 13 goals in 53 games.

The Argentine striker boasts an impressive goalscoring record throughout his European career. For Real Madrid he netted 122 goals in 264 games and at Napoli, a ratio better than one in two with 47 goals in 90 games.

Arsenal’s inability to win the Premier League since 2003/04 has often been linked with their lack of an out-and-out goalscorer. Higuain could certainly bring that to the side and could be part of a frightening duo with fan-favourite, Alexis Sanchez in attack.

Olivier Giroud has performed well this season since returning from injury but Wenger still needs a world-class finisher if the Gunners are to consistently challenge for the title.

The Gunners were interested in signing Higuain back in the summer of 2013 but the player eventually joined Napoli in a £34.5 million deal.

He is currently valued at £35.2 million on transfermarkt.co.uk but Arsenal would have to offer more than that to bring Higuain to the Premier League as he still has three years left on his Napoli deal.

City to raid Arsenal and Liverpool in £35m double swoop

Manchester City are interested in signing Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere and Liverpool’s Jordan Henderson, according to the Daily Mail, as they look to add a more English feel to their starting lineup from next season.

With Frank Lampard on his way to New York City FC and James Milner’s contract set to expire, City are chasing English replacements.

Wilshere could struggle to force his way back into the Arsenal set-up as Wenger’s current system is working well and his injury-hit career could see the Gunners cash in on 23-year-old midfielder.

Henderson has attracted interest from top Premier League clubs, Chelsea and City, and has only one year left on his Liverpool contract so a move away this summer could be real possibility, especially if the Reds fail to qualify for the Champions League.

With the pair rated around £42 million combined – Wilshere £22m and Henderson £20m, according to transfermarkt.co.uk, they could be achievable signings for City.

The Manchester club has delved into Arsenal’s squad on many occasions, spending around £80m on Emmanuel Adebayor, Gael Clichy, Samir Nasri, Kolo Toure and Bacary Sagna in the past and clearly appeal to the Gunners’ stars as they appear to pay comparatively higher wages than the North London club.

This would be a more favourable financial move than rumoured signing of top European target, Paul Pogba. The Juventus star is attracting interest from Chelsea, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Manchester United to name a few but will cost more than Wilshere and Henderson combined.
