United CLOSE on £44m-rated South American goal-machine

Manchester United are closing in on Paris Saint Germain’s Edinson Cavani, who is expected to leave the French champions this summer, according to The Express.

Cavani has been forced to play as a wide-man for PSG, second fiddle to Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and is looking to get back to his preferred role as an out-and-out striker even if that means he has to move clubs.

The Uruguayan goal-machine was reportedly close to a summer move to Juventus, but it seems the Italian giants are unwilling to meet his hefty wage demands.

It is understood that Cavani will demand a £5.75 million-a-year salary and Louis Van Gaal’s side are more than capable of giving the striker what he wants.

United flop, Radamel Falcao, is expected to move on this summer and his departure will free up a huge £265,000-a-week in wages for new faces at the club, and Cavani could be a straight swap.

United have been linked with a number of top goalscorers already ahead of this summer transfer window but Cavani could be the most likely to make the move to Old Trafford.

The 28-year-old is rated at £44 million by transfermarkt.co.uk and it is no surprise given his goal output. He has netted a staggering 193 club career goals in 347 appearances. His experience of playing at the top level, including in the Champions League, makes him an ideal candidate for United ahead of their summer rebuild.

Is Edinson Cavani the goalscorer Manchester United need?

Manchester United preparing €78m move for two world-class stars – report

Manchester United are reportedly preparing a massive £57 million double bid for Paris Saint-Germain duo Thiago Silva and Edinson Cavani as Louis Van Gaal looks to further strengthen his side this summer, according to the Sunday People.

Van Gaal expects more big names to arrive at Old Trafford in the coming months with the Red Devils on the verge of securing a place in next season’s Champions League after six straight Premier League wins.

PSG striker, Cavani has been linked with a switch to United for some time now and this summer could be the perfect time to swoop, with attacking reinforcements one of Van Gaal’s priorities.

Radamel Falcao’s loan move is not set to be made permanent, while Robin Van Persie is set to leave and could be one of four players offered as bait in United’s transfer moves.

The Dutch forward is deemed as surplus to requirements and could be offered to clubs along with fellow striker Javier Hernandez, right-back Rafael and winger Nani.

Cavani has had to play second fiddle to Zlatan Ibrahimovic at PSG since joining from Napoli in 2013 in a deal worth around £50 million, and could be tempted with a move to the Premier League with United.

His PSG teammate Thiago Silva is also being targeted by United as the 30-year-old Brazil international could follow Cavani to Old Trafford in a huge double move.

The powerful centre-back is being lined up by Van Gaal as an alternative option to German defender Mats Hummels if the Dortmund star is unable to be signed.

The Red Devil’s will offer £57 million to the Ligue 1 giants in the hope of bringing both players to Old Trafford, while Van Persie could be offered as part of any deal.

United set to beat Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool to £60m striker

Manchester United are lining up a £60 million bid for Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani this summer, and will try to beat Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool to his signature, according to the Daily Star.

Louis Van Gaal is reportedly prepared to offload Robin Van Persie to make room for yet another marquee signing and Cavani could be the man to help fire them back to the top next season.

If Van Gaal is to offload both Van Persie and misfiring Radamel Falcao, the Star claims they will have £460,000-a-week in wages to spare.

This would give them the leverage to pay Cavani the £300,000-a-week United bosses are apparently prepared to pay the 28-year-old striker to lure him to Old Trafford.

Cavani is reported to be unsettled at PSG and has stated he could move on from the French champions this summer.

“For now I think only about finishing the season well here and give my best for the club that pays me.

“In Paris, I’m fine, but in football you never know what can happen in the future.”

Cavani has not featured in his preferred striker role enough as he would like with the French giants, playing second-fiddle to key man Zlatan Ibrahimovic since his £55m move from Napoli in 2013.

Despite being played out of position at PSG, Cavani has an impressive 43 goals in 84 games for the club but has failed to live up to the levels which earned him the move from Napoli, where he scored 104 goals in 138 games.

The Uruguayan could prove to be a formidable strike partner for United captain Wayne Rooney next year – an attacking duo clubs all over Europe would fear.
