Premier League Preview and Prediction: Crystal Palace vs Chelsea

Competition: Premier League – Crystal Palace vs. Chelsea

Venue: Selhurst Park – Saturday, December 17 – 12:30 GMT (07:30 ET)

Match Odds: Crystal Palace 17/4 – Draw 3/1 – Chelsea 8/13

Match Preview

Crystal Palace welcome Chelsea to Selhurst Park on Saturday morning, with the London Derby being the first game of the Premier League fixtures this weekend.

Alan Pardew’s side come into this one off the back of their midweek defeat against United, a game full of controversy. It was a tough result for Palace to take but they have to pick themselves up and be ready for this tie.

Crystal Palace are just three points above the relegation zone and need to get on a run of form sharpish to ensure they’re not dragged into the battle to avoid the drop. A positive result here and stopping Chelsea’s winning run would do wonders for the confidence of both the players and fans.

Worryingly for Palace, they have won just one in their last ten Premier League games, picking up just five points from a possible 30.

There is not much to say about Chelsea’s run of form that hasn’t already been said, however they are only six points clear at the top of the table and the Premier League throws up never ending surprise results.

Antonio Conte’s side have won their last ten games in a row but know they’re going to be in for another tough afternoon here. Chelsea will be expecting to remain tight at the back and clinical as they move forward.

Chelsea’s defensive displays have been resilient, especially in their last two one-nil wins. They have kept eight clean sheets in their run of ten wins and will be hoping to add another to that list this weekend.

Conte has strength in depth at his disposal, he has already started making more use of his squad, with the likes of Cesc Fabregas working his way back into the side, it wouldn’t be surprising to see another change in the middle for this tie.

Team News

Crystal Palace are expecting to be without seven players for this London Derby as Papa Souare, Jonathan Benteke, Connor Wickham, Steve Mandanda, James Tomkins, Bakary Sakho and Loic Remy are all doubtful.

Chelsea’s injury list remains minimal, Kurt Zouma, John Terry and Marco van Ginkel are all still working their way back to fitness, while Oscar, Eden Hazard and John Obi Mikel are all doubts.

Key Points

Crystal Palace’s last five: L/L/W/D/L

Chelsea’s last five: W/W/W/W/W

Key Stat: Emphatic – Chelsea have won their last ten Premier League games in a row. They are four games away from equalling the current record for most consecutive wins in the Premier League era.

Key Player: Diego Costa – The Spaniard is on fire. Chelsea’s run of form has been impressive but would probably not have been possible without Costa being as clinical in front of goal as he has been. Expect him to be in the thick of the action this weekend, he does however remain one booking away from suspension.

Score Prediction

Crystal Palace 1-2 Chelsea – Another hard-fought game for both of these sides. Palace are expected to set up to frustrate Chelsea in this tie and it will be down to Conte’s men to break down a solid side once again.

Competition: Premier League – Crystal Palace vs. Leicester City

Venue: Selhurst Park – Saturday, March 19 – 15:00 GMT (11:00 ET)

Match Odds: Crystal Palace 19/10 – Draw 9/4 – Leicester 7/5

Match Preview

Crystal Palace welcome high flying Leicester City to Selhurst Park on Saturday in a game which could have huge implications at both ends of the table.

Palace are sitting dangerously close to the drop zone and are in a rut of form in the Premier League. They must start to pick up points to distance themselves from the relegation battle, and fast.

They come into the game off the back of reaching the FA Cup semifinals last weekend but previously lost at home to Liverpool in the league.

This is going to be a very tough test for Palace, who will have title-chasing London rivals Tottenham willing them on this weekend.

The Eagles are the only side in the top four tiers of English football yet to win a league game in 2016. That’s something Alan Parker will want to change very quickly.

Leicester City remain top of the Premier League. They come into this tie off the back of their 1-0 win over Newcastle last time out.

These are the sort of games which can prove to be the biggest test while chasing down the league title, as Palace have just as much to play for as the visitors.

Claudio Ranieri will be trying to keep his players as calm and composed as possible heading into this tie but the pressure is mounting on them massively now and, as the cliche goes, every game is a cup final from here on in.

Team News

Crystal Palace have five injury concerns. Kwesi Appiah, Marouane Chamakh, James McArthur and Connor Wickham are all expected to still be out, while Mile Jedinak is a doubt.

Leicester City have just the two injury concerns heading into the tie. Matthew James is out, while Andy King is a doubt.

Key Points

Leicester City’s last five: L/W/D/W/W

Key Stat: Crystal Palace are yet to win in the Premier League in 2016.

Key Player: Riyad Marhez – Leicester’s key man has netted an impressive 15 goals in his 29 appearances this season and he will be key to unlocking the Palace defence here.

Crystal Palace 0-2 Leicester City – Leicester to prove too strong for a struggling Palace side in this tie and continue their march towards the title in this incredibly unpredictable Premier League season.

Premier League Preview and Prediction: West Brom vs Crystal Palace

Competition: Premier League – West Bromwich Albion vs. Crystal Palace

Venue: The Hawthorns – Saturday, February 27 – 17:30 GMT (12:30 EST)

Match Odds: West Bromwich Albion 6/4 – Draw 11/5 – Crystal Palace 19/10

Match Preview

West Brom welcome Crystal Palace to The Hawthorns in this week’s Saturday night Premier League clash, with Baggies manager Tony Pulis looking for a win over his former club.

West Brom have struggled to put in strong performances this season but will be pleased by the fact that they are eight points clear of the relegation zone after 26 games. They have only won one of their last six, though, and need to try and find some consistency.

They haven’t won at home since early January and Baggies fans will still be worried about the threat of relegation as after Saturday’s game they play Leicester, Manchester United and Arsenal.

Their 3-1 FA Cup loss at Reading was hugely disappointing and they will hope to bounce back with a Premier League win here.

Crystal Palace have not won a Premier League game in nine outings and have been sucked into a potential relegation dogfight. They are level on points with West Brom and so Saturday’s game is a big one for both sides.

After an unbelievable start to the season, and potential talk of European qualification, the Eagles have fallen from grace at a rate of knots.

Their FA Cup run, which was extended at the weekend following a 1-0 at White Hart Lane against Spurs, should suppress groans from supporters but things need to change for Palace, and soon.

The reverse fixture at Selhurst Park ended 2-0 to the Eagles and West Brom will be out for revenge here in what should be a close-fought game.

Team News

West Bromwich Albion will be hopeful Craig Dawson and Gareth McAuley will shake off injuries in time to feature but both are doubts. James Morrison, Jonny Evans and Callum McManaman are all out.

Crystal Palace are only missing two first team regulars as James McArthur and Jason Puncheon remain out. Yannick Bolasie is back and should start here after coming off the bench in Palace’s FA Cup win at Tottenham on Sunday.

Key Points

West Brom’s last five in the Premier League: L/D/D/L/W

Crystal Palace’s last five in the Premier League: L/L/L/D/L

Key Stat: Crystal Palace are without a win in nine matches in the Premier League.

Key Player: Salomon Rondon – The Venezuelan striker has become the leading man in the West Brom attack and the Baggies will want to take advantage of Crystal Palace’s bad run of league form here. Rondon will be a nuisance for the Palace defence from the start and will expect to find the scoresheet.

Score Prediction

West Bromwich Albion 1-1 Crystal Palace – It will be extremely difficult for the Baggies to keep out a strong Palace attack on Saturday. The return of Yannick Bolasie is crucial for the Eagles, proven by his return coinciding with the FA Cup win at Spurs last weekend. However, Tony Pulis will want to avoid defeat when his former club visit on Saturday evening and this looks set to be a close contest.

Match Odds: Crystal Palace 4/5 – Draw 5/2 – West Bromwich Albion 7/2

Match Preview

Crystal Palace host West Bromwich Albion on Saturday afternoon in a clash which sees Tony Pulis return to his old stomping ground, Selhurst Park with the Baggies.

Palace will want defer from their current form as they have only managed one win in their last three after a solid start which saw them sit second in the league early on.

Playing without a registered striker, Palace have suffered without the outlet of a natural forward and Bakary Sako (despite his great form) isn’t the answer in the search for an ideal lone frontman.

Tony Pulis’ return to Selhurst Park will be the main draw from this clash as much has been said about who has done a better job at Palace, Pulis or Alan Pardew.

Boasting a great managerial record, Pulis has succeeded where ever he has been and Palace was no different. However, he has struggled to get West Brom to the level they should be operating at so far this term.

West Brom’s record in the Premier League: P7 – W2 – D2 – L3

Suffering with inconsistency, Pulis won’t suffer relegation with West Brom, but a top half finish is a fair way away at the moment.

A win in south London on Saturday would certainly be a huge boost for the Baggies and they will take confidence from the 2-0 win there back in April.

Team News

Crystal Palace are missing up to six players, with Damien Delaney, Mile Jedinak, Joel Ward, Connor Wickham, Marouane Chamakh and Kwesi Appiah all likely to miss out.

West Brom are without Ben Foster as he is still recovering from a serious knee injury. Gareth McAuley is a doubt with a leg injury but could be fit to start. Jonas Olsson is a doubt with an ankle problem.

Key Points

Crystal Palace’s last five: W/W/L/L/W

West Brom’s last five: L/W/D/W/L

Key Stat: West Brom have kept a clean sheet in five of their last seven away matches.

Key Player: Saido Berahino – With two goals in two, the English forward has forced himself back into the West Brom side after his summer transfer saga and will be important if the Baggies are to pick up points here.

Score Prediction

Crystal Palace 1-0 West Brom – We’re not expecting much from this affair in terms of goals as it should be a tight encounter. West Brom are good at defending as a unit and Palace are not frightened to attack in numbers. Though we see the home side just edging a low scoring affair in front of their own fans.

Crystal Palace fan favourite hints at exit

Crystal Palace goalkeeper Julian Speroni has hinted that although he has just signed a new one year contract extension, he may still leave the club in an interview with South London Today.

On Tuesday night, Speroni plays in a testimonial against his former club Dundee United, which could be his last game for Crystal Palace.

He is quoted as saying: “I’m here now and have one more year on my contract. But it doesn’t mean anything.

“I could be gone in the summer. Football is a very unique business. I just want to make Tuesday night special.

“If that is my last time I’m going to be at Selhurst Park then I want it to be something to remember.”

After being ever-present in the Crystal Palace goal the news of an exit would come as a surprise. But the 36 year old is keen to carry on his career whether it be at Selhurst Park or elsewhere.

Speroni goes on to add: “I feel blessed in terms of my fitness but I never take anything for granted. I keep working my best. When the time comes to make a decision then I will make the best one for everybody.”

The Argentine stopper has made 357 league appearances for the Eagles since his move from Dundee United in 2004.

Crystal Palace are expected to see several players come in and many leave this summer as Alan Pardew reshapes the squad, and Julian Speroni could be one of the casualties.

West Bromwich Albion could make a move as former Palace boss Tony Pulis is a keen admirer and will be in the market for a new ‘keeper with Ben Foster a long-term injury worry.

Who could Crystal Palace look to replace Julian Speroni with if he were to leave?

Premier League Preview and Prediction: Chelsea vs Crystal Palace

Competition: Premier League – Chelsea vs. Crystal Palace

Venue: Stamford Bridge – Sunday, May 3rd – 13:30 BST (08:30 ET)

Match Odds: Chelsea 1/3 – Draw 4/1 – Crystal Palace 17/2

Match Preview

Chelsea host Crystal Palace on Sunday with the chance to secure their first Premier League title since 2010. Jose Mourinho’s men have been edging closer to the title with each passing week but have still come under criticism for their style of play.

They come into the game after a 3-1 away win at Leicester City on Wednesday. Their first-half performance in that tie was below par and with Leicester leading at the break it looked as if Chelsea would struggle in the second-half, though they went on to win and are now just one game away from the title.

Palace can take positives from the way in which Leicester unlocked the Chelsea defence but it will be surprising if the Blues don’t wrap up the championship this week.

The champions elect are unbeaten in 14 games and have looked like they have setup in a style to completely avoid defeat in recent weeks. However, a draw in this one is not what they will want and anything other than a win will be scrutinised.

Crystal Palace have been completely rejuvenated since Alan Pardew took over the side and are looking strong candidates for a mid-table finish.

Palace had won four on the bounce but have suffered back-to-back defeats which comes as a surprise with both of those games at home.

Pardew will have his players pumped as always and they will be hoping to spoil Chelsea’s day. Palace have a tough run-in and will be grateful they are not struggling in and around the relegation zone with just four weeks to go.

Team News

Chelsea look set to be without Diego Costa and Loic Remy for this game, though Oscar could return after missing out in midweek as a precaution following his heavy-hitting challenge with Arsenal’s keeper David Ospina. As we have seen this season Mourinho isn’t one for chopping and changing, so we could expect a very similar lineup to the one that played at Leicester.

Crystal Palace could be without Frazier Campbell and Marouane Chamakh who both face late fitness tests. Joel Ward and Jerome Thomas remain sidelined.

Key Points

Chelsea’s last five: W/W/W/D/W

Crystal Palace’s last five: W/W/W/L/L

Key Stat: Champions elect – Chelsea are just three points from the title and can wrap things up with a win this weekend.

Key Player: Eden Hazard – Even with Chelsea’s style being criticised the PFA Player of the Year continues to excite and he will be the focal point of Chelsea’s attacks as usual.

Score Prediction

Chelsea 2-1 Crystal Palace – Chelsea to secure the Premier League title against a Palace side who will not make things easy and frustrate Mourinho’s men as much as possible.
