Match Odds: Seattle Sounders 11/10 – Draw 5/2 – FC Dallas 3/1

Match Preview

Seattle Sounders take on FC Dallas at CenturyLink Field looking to get back to winning ways following their defeat last week to Sporting Kansas City. While Dallas are without a win in four and also need to try and find three points on Saturday night.

The Sounders are at the top of the Western Conference and that’s no surprise given their squad strength. They have already picked up an impressive eight wins this season and look in good shape to retain their MLS Supporters’ Shield come the end of the regular season.

Seattle have two games in hand over second placed Vancouver Whitecaps with both tied on 26 points after 14 weeks.

Plus, they have only lost once at home this season and that was their home opener against San Jose Earthquakes when they lost 3-2.

Only once have Seattle Sounders not scored at home and that was in the 0-0 draw with Sporting Kansas City so they will be the more confident of the two sides heading into Saturday’s clash.

FC Dallas face their fourth straight away game in Seattle, having failed to pick up a win in their last three road trips.

In those three away games they have scored just the one and conceded six goals.

Blas Perez has been away on international duty with Panama, depleting them of the goals that he gifted them earlier this season, while Fabian Castillo has also been missing as a result of an injury and that has seen the Texan side’s form dip.

A win for FC Dallas would put them right back on track for a top place finish in the Western and so it’s a huge game for both sides.

The reverse fixture this season saw FC Dallas and Seattle Sounders play out a 0-0 draw at Toyota Park on March 29.

Team News

Seattle Sounders have two injury worries with Chad Barrett out with hamstring troubles and Obafemi Martins had nose surgery but could play in a mask. Marco Pappa is still away on international duty with Guatemala. Clint Dempsey is expected to return to the starting lineup.

FC Dallas have plenty of players away on international duty with Tesho Akindele, Kellyn Acosta, Je-Vaughn Watson, Atiba Harris and Moises Hernandez all out. Fabian Castillo could return to the starting lineup after returning from injury last week.

Key Points

Seattle Sounders’ last five: W/D/W/W/L

FC Dallas’ last five: W/D/L/L/D

Key Stat: The last three matches between these two have ended in a draw.

Key Player: Dan Kennedy – The FC Dallas goalkeeper could have a busy day ahead of him with plenty of Seattle players returning back from international duty that could be laying assault on the FC Dallas goal, so he will need to be at his best.

Score Prediction

Seattle Sounders 0-0 FC Dallas – Both teams have players returning from international duty. Seattle Sounders could be light up front with injuries to Barrett and Martins potentially leaving them weak. FC Dallas could sneak it but without so many players, it looks likely that both teams will struggle to edge what should be a tight contest.

MLS Fantasy Tips: Value for money picks

The new Major League Soccer season is drawing ever closer and that means it’s time to start weighing up your MLS fantasy football options ahead of the new campaign.

Here we’ll look at the best players in terms of value for money from the current list of players on the official MLS Fantasy Soccer game. We’re excited for the new season and fantasy football is one of the best ways to get involved with the fastest growing league in world sport if you’re new to MLS.

Below is a list of the five players we believe will be more than worth their price tag this year and some of them should probably be worth more.

Everyone will want that star name whether it be Kaka, David Villa or Robbie Keane but we take a look at the players that will keep you in the hunt for the fantasy title in your league at a more affordable price.

1. Bryan Rochez – Striker (Orlando City)

It’s surprising that you can have a new Designated Player for just $7.0m. Rochez is a risk, but we believe he’s one worth taking, as you have to assume he will lead the Orlando City line. And after all, someone has to finish Kaka’s great work. Right?

2. Dan Kennedy – Goalkeeper (FC Dallas)

Kennedy was left without a club after the disbandment of Chivas USA. and Dallas picked him up in the Dispersal Draft and now he can be yours for $5.0m.

In terms of a starting goalkeeper, that price is cheap. Especially when you consider Dallas is expected to challenge for a playoff spot again this season. The only catch could be Chris Seitz as the ‘keeper made 14 starts last year and will compete with Kennedy for the starting role.

3. Will Bruin – Striker (Houston Dynamo)

Bruin will start up top going into the season, and depending on the form of Erick Torres upon arrival, he could be a crucial member to this Houston side for the entire campaign.

He scored ten times in 27 appearances last term so he has proved he can deliver. A slight risk at $8.0m but we believe he’ll be more than worth that price tag, especially in the early months of the season.

4. Otis Earle – Defender (FC Dallas)

A first round draft pick this year and at $4.0m Earle is the cheapest it can get and we are hoping the young defender will see regular first-team action in Dallas after Jair Benitez left the club.

Earle is known to attack down the left side from left-back and could form a lethal partnership with Fabian Castillo this year.

And at such a low price he’s worth having in the side even if you’re just making room for a star man like Kaka or Sebastian Giovinco.

5. Sam Cronin – Midfielder (Colorado Rapids)

Cronin was traded to the Rapids from the San Jose Earthquakes in the offseason and is set to partner Marcelo Sarvas in a new-look Colorado midfield so he will see game time.

If you just want someone who will reliably see the field week in, week out, then Cronin is your guy. And at $6.0m, he is a low risk pick.

Who do you think will be the best fantasy player for value in 2015?

Chivas USA Dispersal Draft sees just seven players selected

Major League Soccer conducted its first of many drafts over the next couple of months with the Chivas USA Dispersal Draft today, but only seven players were selected.

The draft took place via conference call between all 20 clubs, as the entire Chivas USA roster were up for grabs except for star player Erick ‘Cubo’ Torres, who is still negotiating a contract with MLS.

FC Dallas had the first pick and selected goalkeeper Dan Kennedy, who was seen as the most attractive option heading into the day.

Dallas already have two starting calibre ‘keepers in Raul Fernandez and Chris Seitz and may look to use Kennedy in some form of postseason negotiation. Though he could be given a chance to battle for the starting job, but that remains to be seen.

The remaining six selections in the dispersal draft saw young players picked up. Expansion club New York City FC selected Matthew Dunn with the second pick, as DC United selected Thomas McNamara with the fourth pick.

Montreal Impact picked up the only defender to move in the draft by selecting left-back Donny Toia with the sixth pick, before Caleb Calvert moved to Colorado Rapids and Kristopher Tyrpak joined San Jose Earthquakes in the eighth and ninth selections.

Marco Delgado was the last player picked in the draft as Toronto FC opted to take the versatile midfielder with the fourteenth pick.

Surprisingly, Nigel Reo-Coker and Andrew Jean-Baptiste were not selected and they will hope to escape football limbo before the start of the next campaign.

Reo-Coker could still offer many teams some steel in the middle of the park, and it’s surprising a club like Orlando City opted to pass on the former Vancouver Whitecaps man.

Jean-Baptiste going past the dispersal draft without a club is an even bigger shock. The centre-back could offer many teams some solidity at the back and many expected him to move somewhere.

Both players could still find teams in MLS before the new season starts but for now, just seven former Chivas USA players have found hope elsewhere.

What did you make of the Chivas USA Dispersal Draft?

FC Dallas to get first pick in Chivas USA Dispersal Draft

Major League Soccer conducted a draw to determine the selection order for next Wednesday’s Chivas USA Dispersal Draft on Friday, with FC Dallas coming out first.

The envelope draw saw all 20 MLS sides involved – New York City FC and Orlando City included, as all non-playoff teams had two envelopes, whereas playoff sides had one.

Despite the advantage for non-playoff teams, four of the top five picks went to sides who made the playoffs, with FC Dallas coming out first.

The Dispersal Draft will see MLS clubs pick players from the recently disbanded Chivas USA squad, and everyone is available apart from star striker Erick ‘Cubo’ Torres as he is negotiating a contract with the league separately.

Goalkeeper Dan Kennedy is expected to be one of the first names drawn, while other notable names include Marky Delgado, Andrew John-Baptiste and Nigel Reo-Coker.

Draft picks for Wednesday’s draft cannot be traded, although the player selected could be once all teams have picked.
