MLS Preview and Prediction: Toronto FC vs Houston Dynamo

Competition: Major League Soccer – Toronto FC vs. Houston Dynamo
Venue: BMO Field – Friday, April 28 – 19:30 ET (00:30 BST)
Match Odds: Toronto 8/15 – Draw 3/1 – Houston 9/2

Match Preview

Toronto FC welcome Houston Dynamo to BMO Field as Week 9 springs into life with this intriguing inter-conference clash.

Toronto got their first home win of the season in last week’s 3-1 victory over Chicago Fire and will be looking to follow that up with another three points in front of their own fans as they try to climb the Eastern Conference.

The Reds are sitting in seventh place coming into the weekend but are only five points off Orlando at the top and will feel they are now in a position to start progressing after a fairly quiet start to the new season.

Greg Vanney’s men have only lost one of their last eight home regular season games – none of which have come this season – and they know they are expected to take the game to Houston here.

The Dynamo have been one of the real surprise packages so far in 2017. They enter Week 9 third in the West after posting a 4-1-2 record through their opening seven games.

The real positive for Houston has been the re-emergence of Erick ‘Cubo’ Torres, along with attacking players such as Alberth Elis and Rommel Quioto. The trio have scored 13 of the Dynamo’s 15 goals this term and look dangerous every time they come forward.

Houston have lost both away games so far this term though, and that will be the major worry for Wilmer Cabrera heading into Friday’s game in Toronto. They fell 4-2 at Portland before more recently suffering a 2-0 loss in New England.

It’s been almost two years since the Dynamo won away at an Eastern Conference side and they must start to change that record if they are to challenge for the Supporters’ Shield this term.

This will be the 21st MLS clash between the two sides. Toronto have only picked up four wins in the previous 20 games against Houston and are currently winless in four against the Texans.

Team News

Toronto still have five players out through injury with Clint Irwin, Drew Moor, Ashtone Morgan, Chris Mavinga and Jason Hernandez all set to miss out again here. The positive news is that Drew Moor is only expected to be out for another two weeks after an irregular heartbeat was discovered.

George Malki remains out for the season for the Dynamo, who could also be without four first-teamers that are are all doubts. AJ DeLaGarza, Leonardo, Agus and Ricardo Clark are all carrying knocks and might not be passed fit in time for Friday’s contest.

Key Points

Toronto FC’s form: W/D/D/L/W

Houston Dynamo’s form: L/W/L/D/W

Key Stat: Houston haven’t won away at an Eastern Conference side in MLS since May 2015, although that victory came at BMO Field in their most recent trip to Toronto.

Key Player: Sebastian Giovinco – The Atomic Ant is back and has the fire burning in his belly if his reaction to being substituted in last week’s win over Chicago is anything to go by. Giovinco got two in last Friday’s victory and now has three in his last three. He got off to a slow start this season but is looking on his way back to his scary best – something the Dynamo defence will be very nervous about.

Score Prediction

Toronto FC 3-1 Houston Dynamo – It’s difficult to see the Dynamo’s road form picking up on Friday night. Toronto are unbeaten at BMO Field so far this term and got their first win against Chicago last week. The Dynamo attack have impressed and will expect to find the net but with Giovinco and Jozy Altidore looking like they’re nearing top form, the Reds should prove too strong.

MLS Preview and Prediction: Houston Dynamo vs Seattle Sounders

Competition: Major League Soccer – Houston Dynamo vs. Seattle Sounders
Venue: BBVA Compass Stadium – Saturday, March 4 – 20:30 ET (01:30 GMT)
Match Odds: Houston 6/4 – Draw 11/5 – Seattle 7/4

Match Preview

Houston Dynamo couldn’t be facing a much bigger task this weekend as they kick off their 2017 MLS season with a home game against reigning MLS Cup champions Seattle Sounders.

The Dynamo have to improve on their 2016 regular season showing, in which they finished bottom of the Western Conference. This season marks ten years since Houston were last crowned MLS Cup winners and the competition is getting even more difficult to win with continual improvement to the quality of homegrown and imported players across the league.

Houston did have a strong preseason and while the games are less competitive than their fixture this weekend, you can only beat what’s in front of you. For new head coach Wilmer Cabrera to go seven unbeaten – six of those being victories – will fill the Dynamo faithful with optimism for the season ahead, even if they have already been written off by most.

The points were shared in each of the three meetings between these sides last season and you have to look back to 2013 for the last time Houston managed to take all three points from Seattle, so if history is anything to go by here, we can expect a close one.

The Sounders will be itching to get their season underway this weekend. As reigning champs they will feel they have a point to prove to anyone who doubted them during last year’s incredible run to the final. Seattle are the team everyone is going to want to beat so starting away from home isn’t ideal, but if they can get three points on the road they’ll show they mean business right from the off.

Brian Schmetzer starts his first full season in charge of Seattle since 2008. His appointment completely transformed the Sounders’ season in 2016 and now he’ll hope his squad can push for a impressive campaign from the get-go.

Seattle have confirmed Jordan Morris, Nicolas Lodeiro and Clint Dempsey are all available for selection from the weekend and those three definitely have the ability to be one of the most feared strike-forces in the league in 2017.

The Sounders have never won an MLS tie in the eight competitive games they’ve faced away at Houston. The last three regular season meetings at BBVA Compass Stadium have ended in a 1-1 draw.

Key Points

Houston’s preseason form: W/W/W/W/W/D/W

Seattle’s preseason form: W/W/W/W

Key Stat: Stalemate – The last four meetings between Houston and Seattle have ended in a draw.

Key Player: Nicolas Lodeiro – The Sounders playmaker transformed the side after arriving midway through the season. He scored eight goals in 19 appearances and helped fire Seattle to MLS glory. He’ll now be desperate to build on those magical displays in his first full season in the league.

Score Prediction

Houston Dynamo 1-2 Seattle Sounders – Houston know they’ve got a tough task on their hands here but it is a game they’ll be looking forward to. As history shows, they are quite capable of taking points off Seattle but this could well be the day that Seattle put an end to their winless run in Texas. They’ll have to work extremely hard to take all three points but they have the squad and talent at their disposal to make a statement on the opening weekend of the 2017 MLS season.

MLS Preview and Prediction: Houston Dynamo vs Colorado Rapids

Competition: Major League Soccer – Houston Dynamo vs. Colorado Rapids

Venue: BBVA Compass Stadium – Saturday, October 8 – 20:30 ET (01:30 BST)

Match Odds: Houston 11/10 – Draw 23/10 – Colorado 23/10

Match Preview

Houston Dynamo take on the Colorado Rapids on Saturday in this weekend’s lone MLS clash in what is an important battle in the West.

It may be international week, but neither of these sides have any call-ups to contend with and so an intriguing battle is expected to take place on Saturday evening.

Houston’s 2-0 loss to NYCFC last time out effectively ended their playoff hopes. They looked to be mounting a late-season surge, but they failed to register a single shot on target in that defeat and will likely struggle against a strong Colorado side here.

The Dynamo are rock bottom of the Western Conference, 11 points off the playoff spots with four games to play so it’s all about preparing for 2017 now.

On the other hand, Colorado are still fighting for the MLS Supporters’ Shield. They are five points behind league leaders FC Dallas but have two games in hand over the Texan side.

A win in Houston on Saturday would move the Rapids to within two points of FCD, setting up what should be a thrilling end to the regular season.

After struggling for the past couple of seasons, 2016 has been a fantastic year for Colorado. They have the best defence in the league and have only suffered five defeats all season.

Embed from Getty Images

They come into Saturday’s game unbeaten in four and are expected to prove too strong for the Dynamo in what could be a low-scoring affair.

These two sides will meet again on the final day of the regular season at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, in a game that could see the Rapids crowned Supporters’ Shield winners.

Team News

Houston Dynamo have two players sidelined, with Tyler Deric and Agus both out. Midfielder Alex is one booking away from suspension and will need to watch his step as a result.

Colorado Rapids could be without five first-team players. Dillon Serna, Jermaine Jones and Bobby Burling are all definitely out, while Kevin Doyle and Sean St Ledger are doubts. Sam Cronin, Marc Burch and Dominique Badji are all one booking away from suspension.

Key Points

Houston Dynamo’s last five: L/D/W/W/L

Colorado Rapids’ last five: L/W/D/D/W

Key Stat: Houston Dynamo have lost just one of their ten all-time regular season home clashes against the Rapids, with that lone loss coming in the 2011 campaign.

Key Player: Tim Howard – The signing of Tim Howard turned the Rapids into a real force. Their defensive solidarity is proven by the fact they have kept 13 clean sheets this season – the most in MLS, and Howard is a key reason for that. He has three clean sheets in his last four and will expect to keep Houston out on Saturday night.

Tim Howard, MLS: New York City FC vs. Colorado Rapids

Score Prediction

Houston Dynamo 0-1 Colorado Rapids – The Rapids have the best defence in the league and should be able to keep a clean sheet against a side that tend to struggle for goals. This might not be the most entertaining of games but a Rapids win would put them in a strong position at the top end of the Western Conference heading into their final three games.

MLS Preview and Prediction: Houston Dynamo vs New York City FC

Competition: Major League Soccer – Houston Dynamo vs. New York City FC

Venue: BBVA Compass Stadium – Friday, September 30 – 20:00 ET (01:00 BST)

Match Odds: Houston 11/10 – Draw 5/2 – NYCFC 85/40

Match Preview

Houston Dynamo welcome New York City FC to BBVA Compass Stadium in this week’s Friday night MLS clash, with the visitors looking to climb to the top of the East with just three weeks of the regular season left to play.

The Dynamo sit bottom of the West and are all but out of the playoffs. They sit nine points behind sixth-placed Seattle with one game in hand so they have to win this if they are to have any chance at all.

But it looks more a case of trying to end the season on a high ahead of next year. They have won two on the spin coming into Friday’s clash and will be looking to damage NYCFC’s title chances here.

Embed from Getty Images

The visitors sit just one point behind Toronto in the Eastern Conference and will only have two games to play following the game in Houston so it’s make-or-break for them now.

They are guaranteed a first-ever playoff berth but the aim will be to finish at the top of the East after an excellent second MLS season.

Patrick Vieira’s men beat Chicago 4-1 last week but have not won back-to-back MLS games for three months so they may struggle to live up to expectations in Texas on Friday night.

Embed from Getty Images

NYCFC have plenty of goals in them but they struggle to keep them out. They have not kept a clean sheet in their last five and have the second-worst defensive record across the league.

This is just the second ever meeting between the two sides. Last year’s clash in New York ended 1-1 and another tight contest is expected here.

Team News

Houston Dynamo will be without Tyler Deric and Agus, while Rob Lovejoy is a doubt. Midfielder Alex needs to be careful as he’s one booking away from suspension.

New York City FC are set to be without five first-team players as Connor Brandt, Shannon Gomez, Maxime Chanot, Frank Lampard and Steven Mendoza are all sidelined with injuries.

Key Points

Houston Dynamo’s last five: D/L/D/W/W

New York City’s last five: L/W/L/D/W

Key Stat: Houston have only lost one of their last ten home games in MLS.

Key Player: Mauro Manotas – The Dynamo forward made a real statement last weekend with a hat-trick in the win over Portland. He’ll be looking to build on that with another strong display against NYCFC here.

Score Prediction

Houston Dynamo 1-1 New York City – A close game is expected in Houston on Friday, with neither side looking strong enough to win the game. The Dynamo are in good form but will struggle to outscore a strong NYCFC side, with for the visitors, inconsistency is likely to prevent them from leaving with the three points they need. Score draw.

MLS Preview and Prediction: San Jose Earthquakes vs Houston Dynamo

Competition: Major League Soccer – San Jose Earthquakes vs. Houston Dynamo

Venue: Avaya Stadium – Friday, August 19 – 23:00 ET (04:00 BST)

Match Odds: San Jose 5/6 – Draw 23/10 – Houston 100/30

Match Preview

San Jose Earthquakes host Western Conference rivals Houston Dyanmo on Friday night in the opener of Week 24’s MLS action.

San Jose are in a solid run of form, going unbeaten in their last five. They come into this one off the back of their 2-1 away win over Vancouver.

Dominic Kinnear will be pleased how his side have been performing of late but there is still plenty of work to be done. The Quakes are sitting 7th in the West, but if they win their two games in hand they could push their way up to 4th place.

This is a tie San Jose will see as a winnable one. They are unbeaten against Houston this season, winning one and drawing the other. This is an opportunity for Kinnear’s side to go unbeaten in the series in the 2016 regular season and keep playoff hopes alive.

Seattle Sounders vs San Jose Earthquakes

Houston Dynamo are struggling for form. Their 1-1 draw with Toronto last time out extended their winless run to six games.

The Dynamo have now won just once in their last 12 regular season outings. They sit bottom of the West and things don’t seem to be getting any easier.

Worryingly for Houston their winless streak on the road now stands at 20 games. It will be a very tough ask to bring that run to an end in this one.

Houston haven’t managed to score in their last three on their travels and they face a San Jose side who have lost just once in their last 16 home outings.

MLS: New York Red Bulls vs. Houston Dynamo Bruin

Team News

San Jose Earthquakes have six injury concerns heading into this one as Marc Pelosi, Mark Sherrod, Clarence Goodson, Bryan Meredith and Kofi Sarkodie all out, while Innocent Emeghara is a doubt.

Houston Dynamo have five injury concerns ahead of this tie as DaMarcus Beasley is out, while Tyler Deric, Ricardo Clark, Raul Rodriguez and Agus are all doubts.

Key Points

San Jose Earthquakes’ last five: W/D/D/D/W

Houston Dynamo’s last five: L/D/D/L/D

Key Stat: Homesick – Houston Dynamo have failed to win in their last 20 Major League Soccer away games.

Key Player: Chris Wondolowski – The San Jose forward has netted nine goals so far this season. Give him a chance in this one and he’ll put it away.

Seattle Sounders vs San Jose Earthquakes Chris Wondolowski

Score Prediction

San Jose Earthquakes 2-1 Houston Dynamo – San Jose to heap more misery on their Western Conference rivals as Houston’s struggles on the road will continue. The home side know they need to continue their form at Avaya Stadium to ensure they work their way up the West with the postseason rapidly approaching.

MLS Preview and Prediction: Montreal Impact vs Houston Dynamo

Competition: Major League Soccer – Montreal Impact vs. Houston Dynamo

Venue: Stade Saputo – Saturday, August 6 – 19:30 ET (00:30 BST – Live on SS1)

Match Odds: Montreal Impact 4/5 – Draw 5/2 – Houston Dynamo 16/5

Match Preview

Montreal Impact host Houston Dynamo on Saturday night in a battle between teams experiencing contrasting seasons. It should be an entertaining fixture as both sides have won only once in their last five and so there is all to play for here.

Montreal currently sit fourth in the Eastern Conference, with hopes still very much intact of earning an automatic place in the Conference semifinals of the playoffs at the end of the season.

Despite their league position, their form is currently preventing what could be an easier task. Winning one of their last five, coupled with the absence of Didier Drogba means Saturday night could be a difficult fixture for the Impact.

Embed from Getty Images

Houston, meanwhile, are stuck at the bottom of the Western Conference and to put it bluntly, deserve to be there. The club has struggled over the last two years and the departure of manager Owen Coyle mid-season wasn’t going to aid their efforts in making a surge up the standings.

Wade Barrett has come in and so far steadied a sinking ship but there is a lot of work to do to get this franchise back to the level it should be at. The club traded former captain Giles Barnes to Vancouver last week and so their strike force is all the weaker for it.

The project at Houston has halted for the moment. Let’s hope they find stability and success sooner rather than later.

This will be the 12th all-time meeting between the two sides and their only clash this season. Houston won last year’s contest 3-0 and are looking to record a third-straight win over Saturday’s opponents.

Team News

Montreal Impact are only without two players through injury as Andres Romero and Wandrille Lefevre will miss the clash. However, star man Didier Drogba is suspended following his red card last weekend, so Dominic Oduro is expected to start in his place.

Houston Dynamo are definitely without DaMarcus Beasley and Tyler Deric through injury. Raul Rodriguez and Agus are both doubts but are fighting to be fit in time for Saturday’s contest.

Key Points

Montreal Impact’s last five: D/D/L/W/D

Houston Dynamo’s last five: W/D/L/D/D

Key Stat: Houston haven’t won away in MLS since July 2015 – a stretch of 19 matches.

Key Player: Ignacio Piatti – Montreal’s creator has been sensational thus far this season and will have to step up once more in Drogba’s absence. He has the quality to change a game in a flash and will relish the prospect of facing a Dynamo defence that has only kept one away clean sheet all season.

Score Prediction

Montreal Impact 3-0 Houston Dynamo – Montreal are in the playoff places for a reason and have an abundance of creative talent. We expect them to dispose of Houston easily on Saturday, even without star striker Didier Drogba. Houston can’t seem to buy a win away from home and their luck doesn’t look likely to change here.

MLS Preview and Prediction: LA Galaxy vs Houston Dynamo

Competition: Major League Soccer – LA Galaxy vs. Houston Dynamo

Venue: StubHub Center – Friday, July 15 – 23:00 ET (04:00 BST)

Match Odds: LA Galaxy 4/7 – Draw 3/1 – Houston 5/1

Match Preview

LA Galaxy host Houston Dynamo in this week’s Friday night MLS clash between two sides at opposite ends of the Western Conference.

The Galaxy enter Friday’s match looking for a third-straight win for the first time this season. They saw off the Seattle Sounders 1-0 on Saturday to win just their second away game of the season.

That result will have boosted confidence in Bruce Arena’s squad and the players will now have their eyes fixed on the top of the Western Conference table with 16 games to go.

Embed from Getty Images

LA are sitting eight points behind Supporters’ Shield leaders, FC Dallas, but are renowned for their late-season surges and will believe they can still catch the long-time leaders.

Houston are facing a somewhat different battle, as they are trying to stay off the bottom of the conference table after another below-par campaign has left them set for another without playoff football.

There is, of course, a long way to go and so the Dynamo are not down and out just yet. However, they have picked up just four wins all season and don’t look poised to improve dramatically enough to close the gap to the top six.

They are ten points off the playoff spots in the West and have the third-worst points-per-game ratio in Major League Soccer. Seattle’s win on Wednesday moved Houston back to the bottom of the West and they look in real trouble.

They drew 0-0 away at Orlando on Saturday, earning their first road clean sheet of the season. Although repeating that feat at StubHub seems highly unlikely.

LA beat Houston 4-1 in the reverse fixture at BBVA Compass Stadium back in April, despite going a goal down early on and will fancy their chances of completing a first league double over the Dynamo since the 2010 season.

Team News

LA Galaxy will be without widemen Robbie Rogers and Ashley Cole, who are both injured, while Ariel Lassiter is a doubt. Nigel De Jong will serve an extra game’s suspension for his red card picked up against Vancouver two weeks ago. Galaxy defender Daniel Steres is one booking away from suspension and needs to watch his step.

Houston’s only injury worry is DaMarcus Beasley, who is set to be out for the rest of the month following minor knee surgery. Alex is one booking away from suspension.

Key Points

LA Galaxy’s last five: L/D/D/W/W

Houston Dynamo’s last five: D/D/L/W/D

Key Stat: Houston have not won any of their last 18 away games in MLS. Their last away win came on July 10, 2015 at San Jose.

Key Player: Robbie Keane – The Galaxy frontman has returned from Euro 2016 in great form, by scoring in back-to-back games. He now has six in eight appearances for the season and will expect to add to his tally in front of the home crowd on Friday evening.

Score Prediction

LA Galaxy 3-0 Houston Dynamo – The Dynamo look set for another convincing defeat at the hands of the Galaxy here. LA are a real force at home and have not lost in front of their own fans all season. The Dynamo, meanwhile, have only won one of their last seven and haven’t won away from home in over a year now. The Galaxy to find their scoring boots and put Houston to the sword.

MLS Preview and Prediction: Orlando City vs Houston Dynamo

Competition: Major League Soccer – Orlando City vs. Houston Dynamo

Venue: Camping World Stadium – Friday, July 8 – 20:00 ET (01:00 BST)

Match Odds: Orlando 4/5 – Draw 11/4 – Houston 100/30

Match Preview

Orlando City take on Houston Dynamo at Camping World Stadium in this week’s Friday night MLS contest, with both sides looking to climb their respective conference after inconsistent campaigns so far.

Orlando were unbeaten in five before Monday night’s 4-0 defeat to FC Dallas. That was their worst result of the season and subsequently saw Adrian Heath relieved of his duties after eight years with the club.

Heath leaves The Lions in seventh, one place outside the playoffs, and so they need to start winning more regularly if they are to secure a top six finish in their second ever MLS campaign. Bobby Murphy will take control of the first-team until a new head coach is found.

Houston have also parted ways with their manager this season, but little has changed since as they are still rooted to the foot of the Western Conference. They did, however, end a five-game winless run with a dramatic late 1-0 win over Philadelphia last weekend.

Cristian Maidana’s 95th minute free-kick will have given the whole squad a huge boost and they will now look to win a second consecutive game for the first time this term.

The Dynamo are seven points outside the playoffs in the West, with the odds of securing a top six finish stacked against them. However, they will need to win games like this if they are to have any chance of making the playoffs for the first time since 2013.

This will be just the second ever meeting between these sides. Orlando claimed a 1-0 win in last year’s clash in Houston, with a Tyler Deric own goal proving to be the difference between the sides.

Team News

Orlando’s only injury concern is Pedro Ribeiro, who remains out following back surgery. Cyle Larin and Kaka were both substituted in the heavy defeat at Orlando on Monday but should both start again here. Brek Shea and Carlos Rivas are one booking away from suspension and need to watch their step.

Houston have one injury worry ahead of Friday’s game, with Rob Lovejoy a doubt. Giles Barnes shook off an ankle problem to play Philadelphia last week and should retain his place. Midfielder, Alex is one booking away from a suspension.

Key Points

Orlando City’s last five: D/D/D/W/L

Houston Dynamo’s last five: D/D/D/L/W

Key Stat: Houston have not won in 17 away games in MLS, while Orlando are unbeaten at home in 15.

Key Player: Cyle Larin – Orlando’s leading striker has eight goals from 15 games this season and has four in his last four at home. He will expect to add to his tally against a Houston side that hasn’t kept a clean sheet away from home this season.

Score Prediction

Orlando City 1-1 Houston Dynamo – Neither side enters Friday’s game in great form. Orlando are very difficult to beat at home, while Houston struggle on the road. A tight contest is expected, with both likely to find the net. Score draw.

MLS Preview and Prediction: Portland Timbers vs Houston Dynamo

Competition: Major League Soccer – Portland Timbers vs. Houston Dynamo

Venue: Providence Park – Sunday, June 26 – 23:00 BST (18:00 EDT)

Match Odds: Portland Timbers 4/5 – Draw 13/5 – Houston Dynamo 7/2

Match Preview

Portland Timbers host Houston Dynamo on Sunday night, live on Sky Sports 2 for UK fans. Both sides are searching for some form as they both hunt a playoff place in the Western Conference but both need to recover from a poor first-half of the campaign to do so.

Portland have been a shadow of the side that won the MLS Cup last year. Injuries have affected the side that lost depth in the offseason, but their results have not been good enough regardless.

Portland will be hoping to regain some form with Darlington Nagbe coming back into the side and Caleb Porter knows they still have a great chance of making the playoffs, as they sit just a point outside the top six heading into the weekend.

Houston were meant to progress this year, but that hasn’t happened and Owen Coyle’s exit has done little to help their position at the bottom of the West.

The Dynamo are without a win in four and have now drawn three on the bounce. They are stuttering through the season and will need a miraculous turnaround if they are to enjoy success from this point.

Embed from Getty Images

Both sides need to start winning matches. This is a great chance for the Dynamo to end their barren away run, although Portland will fancy their chances of closing the gap in the Western Conference playoff race in front of their own fans.

Team News

Portland Timbers will be without goalkeeper Adam Kwarasey, who remains out until early July. Alvas Powell and Darren Mattocks are both doubts.

Houston Dynamo are only missing Rob Lovejoy, who has an ankle problem.

Key Points

Portland Timbers’ last five: L/W/D/W/D

Houston Dynamo’s last five: W/L/D/D/D

Key Stat: Houston Dynamo haven’t won away in their last 16 matches in MLS.

Key Player: Fanendo Adi – The Nigerian international will lead the line for Portland once again on Sunday and we are expecting him to play a huge part in this one. He is the second-highest goalscorer in the league with nine and will hope to add to that tally here.

Score Prediction

Portland Timbers 2-0 Houston Dynamo – Given Houston’s poor away form and the fact that Portland have won four of their last five at home, all signs point towards a Portland win here. The Dynamo have had a tough season and their road troubles don’t look set to improve on Sunday night.

MLS Preview and Prediction: Vancouver Whitecaps vs Houston Dynamo

Competition: Major League Soccer – Vancouver Whitecaps vs. Houston Dynamo

Venue: BC Place – Saturday, May 28 – 18:00 ET (23:00 BST)

Match Odds: Vancouver 6/5 – Draw 12/5 – Houston 11/5

Match Preview

Vancouver Whitecaps welcome Houston Dynamo to BC Place on Saturday evening in a tie which looks like it could be very much one-way traffic.

Vancouver come into this one off the back of their 4-2 loss away at Portland, a result that ended a three-game winning streak.

The Whitecaps sit 4th in the Western Conference, trailing top spot by seven points. They will see this as a game there for the taking against a Houston side who have struggled this season.

Carl Robinson will have his players well prepared for this one and they have shown excellent form at BC Place, going unbeaten in their last six.

Seattle Sounders vs Vancouver Whitecaps 2016

Houston Dynamo come into this tie after parting company with head coach Owen Coyle during the week. Recent form has been disappointing and last weekend’s result was the Scotsman’s final game in charge. Their 1-0 loss away at Chicago closed the gap between the bottom two sides in the Supporters’ Shield standings to just one point.

The away side have lost seven of their last ten outings. A possible recovery looked underway until last weekend and they have now won just two in their last five.

Dynamo are bottom of the Western Conference, trailing the top six by eight points. This is starting to look like it could be a long season for the Houston fans, who will be willing their side to find form and regain confidence.

MLS: New York Red Bulls vs. Houston Dynamo Bruin

Team News

Vancouver Whitecaps could be without up to four as Christian Dean, Deybi Flores and Masato Kudo are all expected to miss out. Fraser Aird is a doubt. Both Octavio Rivero and Blas Perez are one caution away from suspension and will need to watch their step.

Houston Dynamo have two injury concerns, as both Raul Rodriguez and DaMarcus Beasley are doubts.

Key Points

Vancouver Whitecaps’ form: L/W/W/W/L

Houston Dynamo’s form: L/W/L/W/L

Key Stat: Homesick – Houston have lost their last ten away MLS outings.

Key Player: Pedro Morales – The Vancouver midfielder has had a great influence on their season so far, he is their top scorer with six goals and will look to fire the home side to victory again here.

Embed from Getty Images

Score Prediction

Vancouver Whitecaps 3-1 Houston Dynamo – This should be a routine three points for Vancouver, but they cannot afford to have any lapses in concentration otherwise they risk allowing Houston into the game. Houston just need to get a lucky break, last weekend was a good chance of them getting back-to-back wins, which would have put them in a far better position heading into this one.
