FC Dallas vs Seattle Sounders: Preview

FC Dallas welcome Seattle Sounders to Toyota Stadium in Sunday’s lone MLS clash. The Western Conference rivals will be looking to challenge at the very top of the standings this season, so Sunday’s contest should be a good one, even at this early stage of the season.

Dallas have had a long time to prepare for Sunday’s clash. They haven’t played since the opening day of the season, when they drew 1-1 at home to Real Salt Lake. The 15-day rest will mean they are fresh, but the lack of match practice might also be a hindrance for Oscar Pareja’s men.

FC Dallas are unbeaten in seven MLS games at Toyota Stadium and will be looking to get three points on the board against the Sounders on Sunday. They have plenty of talent in attack to hurt what looks likely to be an injury-hit Seattle team.

The Sounders will still be hurting following Wednesday’s 3-0 CCL loss at Chivas de Guadalajara. That defeat saw them eliminated from the quarterfinals of the Champions League 3-1 on aggregate. What was perhaps more damaging though were the number of injuries picked up before and during that game.

Nicolas Lodeiro was ruled out before the game with a foot sprain before Chad Marshall and Will Bruin were substituted with injuries during the first-half. It’s unlikely any of the trio will be in action at Dallas.

Brian Schmetzer has a tough job on his hands to get anything from Sunday’s game. He has been left shorthanded and with a team that needs a pick-me-up. They too haven’t played an MLS game since opening weekend, when they lost 1-0 to LAFC at home. There’s a feeling that getting anything from Sunday’s game would have to be seen as a positive.

FC Dallas vs Seattle Sounders: Prediction

FC Dallas 3-1 Seattle Sounders: The Sounders would usually be capable of getting a positive result in a game like this but given their mounting injury crisis, it’s hard to see them leaving with anything. Dallas know they are in a good position to pick up their first win of the campaign and should be able to do so.

MLS Playoffs Preview and Prediction: FC Dallas vs Seattle Sounders

Competition: MLS Cup Playoffs Western Conference Semifinal (Second-Leg) – FC Dallas vs. Seattle Sounders

Venue: Toyota Stadium – Sunday, November 6 – 21:00 ET (02:00 GMT)

Match Odds: Dallas 8/13 – Draw 11/4 – Seattle 4/1

Match Preview

FC Dallas host Seattle Sounders in the second-leg of their Western Conference Semifinal showdown on Sunday night, with the hosts looking to overturn a three-goal margin after the Sounders stunned them with a 3-0 win last weekend.

Dallas were torn apart during eight second-half minutes at CenturyLink Field last Sunday, with goals from Nelson Valdez and Nicolas Lodeiro seemingly putting this game out of FCD’s reach.

The Supporters’ Shield winners are the top seed in this year’s playoffs but look likely to see their playoff journey come to an end at the first hurdle, unless they can produce something magical at Toyota Stadium on Sunday.

They need to replicate the 3-0 scoreline to take the game to extra-time, but an away goal from Seattle would mean that the hosts need to score five, so they are facing one of the biggest challenges in their history here.

Seattle know they just need to remain organised at the back and try and hit Dallas on the counter here. A goal would surely be enough to put them through, and they’ll be confident of bagging at least one after scoring 14 in their last 7 away games.

Sounders head coach Brian Schmetzer has this week seen the ‘interim’ tag removed from his job title. He has done incredibly well to guide the team to the position they’re in now when you consider they looked dead and buried in July.

Seattle Sounders vs FC Dallas - Sounders Celebrate

These two met in one of the most dramatic playoff games ever at this exact stage last year. Dallas overturned a 2-1 Seattle lead from the first-leg to advance on penalties but the fact that they have to come from three goals down this time means a repeat result is far from likely.

Team News

FC Dallas remain without Zach Loyd and Mauro Diaz for the second leg. The loss of Diaz really hurt FCD last weekend as they seemingly had no creativity in midfield. They will need to try and cope better without him this time if they are going to have any chance in progressing. Oscar Pareja went with a 5-3-2 last weekend but is unlikely to lineup with the same team here.

Seattle are likely to name the same team here, and will be able to enjoy playing on the counter attack from the word ‘go’. Clint Dempsey remains out with a heart problem, while Dylan Remick and Oalex Anderson are doubts.

Key Points

FC Dallas’s last five: D/W/W/D/L

Seattle Sounders’ last five: D/L/W/W/W

Key Stat: FC Dallas have won their last three games against Seattle, but have never beaten the Sounders by three or more goals.

Key Player: Nicolas Lodeiro – The Uruguay international tore Dallas apart during the second-half of last week’s match, scoring twice to put one foot in the Conference Final. He will need to be at his best again here as the Sounders look to finish the job without too much trouble. Playing on the counter will suit Seattle, and Lodeiro will be pivotal once again here.

Score Prediction

FC Dallas 2-1 Seattle Sounders – This has the potential to be a nightmare match for Dallas. Yes, they are already facing an near-impossible task, but they know they have the attacking quality to score three goals here. The problem is they will have to commit bodies forward to do so, and that plays into Seattle’s hands as they can hurt the Sounders on the counter, as they proved last weekend. Dallas should still win the game but Seattle are surely heading to the Conference Finals.

Match Preview

FC Dallas host Seattle Sounders in a huge Western Conference battle on Sunday night in the penultimate weekend of MLS action, with both sides fighting hard to finish as high up the conference as possible.

Dallas lost their grip of the Supporters’ Shield after Colorado’s win on Thursday night and so the home side need to win this to have any chance of winning the title on the final weekend.

The fact that FCD have only won one of their last four will concern head coach Oscar Pareja, but his side remain one of the league’s best at home and so the home fans will be confident of a win on Sunday evening.

A win for Dallas, coupled with Colorado losing or drawing in Portland would send the Texans back to the top of the standings ahead of their final regular season game in LA next week.

But the Sounders will be out to spoil any potential celebrations as they are still fighting to guarantee a playoff spot. They have turned their season around in incredible fashion, after winning seven of their last 11 games and enter the weekend in fourth place.

The worry for Seattle is that they are only four points above the red line and so a defeat here would leave them under pressure ahead of their final-day clash at home to RSL next Sunday.

Seattle Sounders Fans Scarves

The Sounders are unbeaten in six games heading into the contest and will want to keep that run going into the postseason, should they qualify.

This will be the third meeting between the two sides this season. Dallas won 2-0 at home back in May before Seattle stormed to a 5-0 home win in July, so there’s little to split the two sides heading into what should be a great game.

Team News

FC Dallas enter their final home game of the regular season without Zach Loyd, who is sidelined with concussion. Maynor Figueroa is the only other absentee as he will serve a one-game suspension here. Matt Hedges is one booking away from a suspension himself and needs to watch his step.

Seattle will be without their midfield star Osvaldo Alonso after he picked up a red card in Wednesday’s 0-0 draw with Houston. On top of that, Clint Dempsey remains out, while Andreas Ivanschitz and Dylan Remick are also sidelined. Alvaro Fernandez is listed as ‘questionable’.

Key Points

FC Dallas’ last five: W/L/D/D/W

Seattle Sounders’ last five: W/W/W/W/D

Key Stat: The away side has not won in this fixture in any of the last ten meetings between the two sides, including postseason clashes.

Key Player: Nicolas Lodeiro – The Sounders playmakers is sensational to watch when on form and Seattle need him to be close to his best if they are to leave Dallas with anything on Sunday. He has three goals and eight assists in 11 MLS games since joining in the summer.

Score Prediction

FC Dallas 2-2 Seattle Sounders – This has the makings of being Sunday’s best game in MLS as both sides will be gunning for three points. Dallas are a real force at home and have only lost once this season but they are facing a Sounders side that is in great form and so it’s difficult to split the sides. Score draw.

Match Odds: Dallas 4/6 – Draw 14/5 – Seattle 4/1

Match Preview

FC Dallas host Seattle Sounders in a key Western Conference matchup between two sides looking to challenge for the Supporters’ Shield title despite inconsistent starts to 2016.

Dallas ended a three-game losing streak with a 2-1 win over Portland on Wednesday night and will need to go again quickly here, with just two days rest in between these two important home ties.

Oscar Pareja’s side have struggled to find the net in recent weeks, but they are always a bigger threat at Toyota Stadium than on the road and have scored 11 in six home games so far.

They sit second in the Western Conference heading into the weekend, but have played three more games than Seattle, who sit eighth ahead of this one.

The Sounders are only seven points behind Dallas and know that Saturday’s game is an excellent opportunity to close the gap at the top of the conference.

Sigi Schmid’s men have responded well to a terrible start, in which they lost their first three games, as they have only lost one of their last six since then.

Seattle Sounders vs Philadelphia Union

Last weekend’s 2-0 win over San Jose was their third victory in four and they look like a team on the up, despite their lowly position at this relatively early stage of the campaign.

This will be the first of three regular season meetings between the two sides. They met four times last year, with two games being played in the MLS Cup Playoffs. Dallas advanced in a dramatic two-legged tie that went all the way to penalties at Toyota Stadium and will be hoping to win back-to-back home games against Seattle for the first time in their history.

Team News

FC Dallas remain without star defender Matt Hedges, so Walker Zimmerman and Zach Loyd will continue their partnership at the back. Alex Zendejas also remains out, while goalkeeper Jesse Gonzalez is a doubt so Chris Seitz will likely continue between the sticks.

Seattle will be without defender Roman Torres once again, though he is the club’s only injury concern heading into the weekend. Andreas Ivanschitz made his return from injury last week off the bench and will hope to start here.

Key Points

FC Dallas’ last five: W/L/L/L/W

Seattle Sounders’ last five: D/W/L/W/W

Key Stat: FC Dallas are unbeaten in their last 11 regular season games at Toyota Stadium (W9 D2).

Key Player: Jordan Morris – The Sounders rookie forward has inspired Seattle in recent weeks, having scored in four consecutive matches. No MLS rookie has ever scored in five-straight games but Morris will hope to set that record on Saturday night with another impressive display.

Score Prediction

FC Dallas 1-1 Seattle Sounders – FC Dallas are favourites for this one, given their impressive home record, but the short delay between matches may leave them fatigued. Seattle will hope to capitalise but they have yet to win away in three attempts this season and would probably be happy enough with a draw here. That’s the way this looks likely to end, though both will fancy their chances.

Match Preview

FC Dallas face Seattle Sounders on Saturday evening in a huge Western Conference clash that will see the home side’s credentials really tested after an impressive start.

Dallas are the only side in Major League Soccer with a 100% record after winning their first three games but they come up against one of the strongest sides in MLS in the shape of the Seattle Sounders this week.

The Sounders have had two weeks to prepare for this game after last weekend’s bye but they will be desperate to try and put in a fine performance to help forget that 3-2 home defeat to the San Jose Earthquakes two weeks ago.

Both sides will be without their goalscoring stars as Clint Dempsey and Blas Perez are one of several players away on international duty this week. Dempsey and Perez both have three goals each after just three weeks of the new season and will be missed.

Dallas have only conceded one goal so far and have scored six on their way to the top of the Supporters’ Shield standings at this early stage. This is the first time they have won their opening three games since 1998 and they will want to make that four against the Sounders.

Once problem is that recent history suggests Seattle will ruin the high spirits around Dallas. The Sounders were the first side to beat Dallas in the 2014 season, putting an end to their unbeaten start in the sixth game of last campaign.

They also eliminated Dallas from the playoffs on the away goals rule last season after a 1-1 draw at Toyota Stadium.

Seattle won the first two meetings last season but Dallas sealed a 3-1 victory at Toyota Stadium back in September before the two playoff draws.

This should be a close game and whoever can cope without their key names better will likely be victorious.

Team News

FC Dallas will be without Coy Craft (shoulder), Stephen Keel (foot) and Dan Kennedy (back) for the game while Michael Barrios is a doubt. Blas Perez, Kyle Bekker, Moises Hernandez and Je-Vaugn Watson are all absent on international duty.

Seattle are still without midfield enforcer Osvaldo Alonso (groin), while Tyrone Mears is a doubt with a slight hamstring problem. Clint Dempsey is out injured but would have missed the game through international commitments anyway. Marco Pappa is away with Guatemala and will not feature.

Key Points

FC Dallas’ form: W/W/W

Seattle Sounders’ form: W/L

Key Stat: FC Dallas have won 11 of their last 13 home games in MLS. They will hope to make this 12 from 14 on Saturday.

Key Player: Fabian Castillo – The pacey winger has looked dangerous so far this season and will carry even more responsibility in the absence of Perez up top.

Score Prediction

FC Dallas 2-1 Seattle Sounders – This will be an interesting one because of the absences of Perez and Dempsey but Dallas should still be too strong for a Seattle side that looked disappointing against the Quakes last time out. Fabian Castillo and Tesho Akindele will still cause problems for the Sounders defence and home support should see Dallas make it four wins from four.

MLS Fantasy Tips: Gameweek 4 Picks

With the weekend approaching, it means more MLS matches, and with the international break in full swing, this is probably the time to bring in some replacements for your MLS Fantasy team that aren’t away with their national sides.

All 20 MLS teams will be in action for Week 4 but international absentees make picking a team a little more challenging.

We take a look at some worthy replacements for the usual stars that could make the difference this weekend:

1. Tyler Deric: $4.9m (Houston Dynamo) – Colorado Rapids (H)

Embed from Getty Images

Tyler Deric has been a breakthrough player so far this season and barring that unfortunate moment against Orlando, he has been one of the Dynamo’s best players.

Having only conceded two goals in three games, Deric looks a good bet for a clean sheet this week at home to a Colorado side that are yet to be involved in a game with a goal. The Rapids have not scored a goal in 420 minutes of MLS action now so Deric will be confident of keeping his second clean sheet of the season.

2. Kei Kamara: $8.0m (Columbus Crew) – New York Red Bulls (H)

Embed from Getty Images

With an injury to Red Bulls left-back Roy Miller and centre-back Ronald Zubar a doubt for this fixture, this might be the time to throw Kei Kamara into the team. Playing for a Columbus side that was brilliant at home against Toronto, he will be a huge threat in attack.

Coming off a bye week should make him hungrier than usual, and if you’re looking to replace Robbie Keane or Blas Perez for the international break, Kamara is a great option at $8.0 million.

3. Tesho Akindele: $8.1m (FC Dallas) – Seattle Sounders (H)

As usual the last pick is for the gamblers among you. Tesho Akindele is expected to play up top this weekend, deputising for the missing Blas Perez.

Akindele is up against a very good Seattle Sounders team, however, they haven’t been great recently and lost 3-2 to the San Jose Earthquakes last time out. Star man Clint Dempsey won’t feature and so Akindele could be in for some big points this weekend.

Who do you think will be the standout MLS Fantasy performer this weekend?
