The five best Mexicans in MLS to watch in 2018

With the 2018 MLS season underway there is plenty of exciting action each week to keep you entertained. The league is continuing to grow at an alarming rate. More top-rated players are joining each season, highlighting an increasing desire to be involved in Major League Soccer. We’ve picked out the five best Mexicans in MLS to watch this season and what they bring to their side.

Carlos Vela – LAFC

The new boys for 2018, LAFC, picked up an impressive win in their first ever MLS outing away at Seattle. At the heart of that performance was Carlos Vela. Many Premier League fans will know of Vela from his time at Arsenal and brief spell at West Brom.

Although his time in England didn’t quite meet high expectations, the 29-year-old forward is a full international and has come to MLS off the back of the most consistent spell of his career. He is going to be one to watch this season.

Giovani Dos Santos – LA Galaxy

Arguably one of the most naturally gifted players in MLS. Giovani Dos Santos is in his fourth season with LA Galaxy, having scored 23 goals in 64 games. He has played for the likes of FC Barcelona, Tottenham Hotspur and Villarreal – so has plenty of experience to his name.

At 28 he has a lot to offer LA Galaxy, including the ability to change a game at any moment. Dos Santos plays in a number of attacking roles and will be hoping to spearhead his side to better fortunes this season after a disappointing 2017.

Jonathan Dos Santos – LA Galaxy

Younger brother of Gio, Jonathan Dos Santos is also at LA Galaxy. He has made 29 appearances for the national team so far but fans haven’t yet seen his full potential in MLS as this will be his first full season.

The 27-year-old midfielder plays in a deeper role than his brother, but similarly can fit into a number of different roles.

Victor Ulloa – FC Dallas

The most experienced of the Mexicans in MLS in terms of appearances. Victor Ulloa has played 117 games since joining FC Dallas in 2011. A Homegrown player who has made a name for himself anchoring the Dallas midfield.

Although Ulloa isn’t always a guaranteed name on the team sheet, he is reliable and ready when called upon. At 26 he is yet to be called up for the Mexican side, but that is no reflection on his qualities.

Efrain Juarez – Vancouver Whitecaps

Signed from Monterrey using Targeted Allocation Money in January 2018, Efrain Juarez is a versatile option. He has played as a right back over the last few seasons, but is likely to be used as a central midfielder at Vancouver Whitecaps.

Juarez made his debut in the middle of the park in week one. Fans will hope his experience can help the Whitecaps go one step further this season to top the Western Conference.

Are these the five best Mexicans in MLS – who else should have made the cut?

MLS Preview and Prediction: LA Galaxy vs FC Dallas

Competition: Major League Soccer – LA Galaxy vs. FC Dallas

Venue: StubHub Center – Sunday, October 23 – 16:00 ET (21:00 BST)

Match Odds: LA Galaxy 11/8 – Draw 85/40 – Dallas 2/1

Match Preview

LA Galaxy welcome FC Dallas to Stubhub Center on the final weekend of the 2016 regular season, with the away side looking to secure a first-ever Supporters’ Shield title.

LA Galaxy have won the Shield four times but are not in the running this season, although they have secured a playoff berth and will be targeting the MLS Cup in December.

The Galaxy can’t finish anywhere other than third place in the West, so they will have to take part in the Knockout Round of the playoffs no matter what the result of Sunday’s game. But they might well be out to spoil the Dallas party, as watching their opponents lift the shield on their own turf wouldn’t be ideal for the home fans.

Dallas only need a point to claim the Supporters’ Shield after last week’s comeback win over Seattle moved them back to the top of the West over Colorado.

FC Dallas booked their place in the CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinals with a 5-2 win over Suchitepequez during the week but all focus will now be on trying to secure the Supporters’ Shield.

Oscar Pareja’s men have been in good form of late and should be able to get a result at LA on Sunday to finish top of the West for the second successive season.

A defeat in California would open the door for Colorado, who need to beat Houston at home on Sunday, with all ten games in MLS kicking off simultaneously.

Team News

LA Galaxy will be without Gyasi Zardes and Steven Gerrard, while Robbie Keane is listed as ‘questionable’. Bruce Arena may decide to rest a few players ahead of the playoffs but Jelle Van Damme is available again after serving his one-game suspension last weekend.

FC Dallas remain will be without playmaker Mauro Diaz for the rest of the year after he tore his achilles tendon, while Kellyn Acosta has also been ruled out for the foreseeable future. Zach Loyd is out with concussion but Maynor Figueroa is back in contention after serving a one-match ban.

Key Points

LA Galaxy’s last five: W/D/L/L/W

FC Dallas’ last five: L/D/D/W/W

Key Stat: LA Galaxy have won their last five home games against FC Dallas in MLS by an aggregate scoreline of 11-4.

Key Player: Giovani Dos Santos – The Mexican attacker is LA Galaxy’s leading scorer this season with 14 and has three in his last three at home. Expect him to cause the Dallas defence problems throughout Sunday’s contest.

Score Prediction

LA Galaxy 2-2 FC Dallas – The fact that LA can’t finish any higher of lower than third in the West means they may not take this game as seriously as they could perhaps have done. Their focus will be on the playoffs but entering the postseason with a strong platform is always important and so they won’t want to lose this. Dallas know they only need a point to claim the Shield and should be able to get that in what could be an exciting game.

MLS Preview and Prediction: FC Dallas vs Seattle Sounders

Competition: Major League Soccer – FC Dallas vs. Seattle Sounders

Venue: Toyota Stadium – Saturday, May 14 – 21:00 ET (02:00 BST)

Match Odds: Dallas 4/6 – Draw 14/5 – Seattle 4/1

Match Preview

FC Dallas host Seattle Sounders in a key Western Conference matchup between two sides looking to challenge for the Supporters’ Shield title despite inconsistent starts to 2016.

Dallas ended a three-game losing streak with a 2-1 win over Portland on Wednesday night and will need to go again quickly here, with just two days rest in between these two important home ties.

Oscar Pareja’s side have struggled to find the net in recent weeks, but they are always a bigger threat at Toyota Stadium than on the road and have scored 11 in six home games so far.

They sit second in the Western Conference heading into the weekend, but have played three more games than Seattle, who sit eighth ahead of this one.

The Sounders are only seven points behind Dallas and know that Saturday’s game is an excellent opportunity to close the gap at the top of the conference.

Sigi Schmid’s men have responded well to a terrible start, in which they lost their first three games, as they have only lost one of their last six since then.

Seattle Sounders vs Philadelphia Union

Last weekend’s 2-0 win over San Jose was their third victory in four and they look like a team on the up, despite their lowly position at this relatively early stage of the campaign.

This will be the first of three regular season meetings between the two sides. They met four times last year, with two games being played in the MLS Cup Playoffs. Dallas advanced in a dramatic two-legged tie that went all the way to penalties at Toyota Stadium and will be hoping to win back-to-back home games against Seattle for the first time in their history.

Team News

FC Dallas remain without star defender Matt Hedges, so Walker Zimmerman and Zach Loyd will continue their partnership at the back. Alex Zendejas also remains out, while goalkeeper Jesse Gonzalez is a doubt so Chris Seitz will likely continue between the sticks.

Seattle will be without defender Roman Torres once again, though he is the club’s only injury concern heading into the weekend. Andreas Ivanschitz made his return from injury last week off the bench and will hope to start here.

Key Points

FC Dallas’ last five: W/L/L/L/W

Seattle Sounders’ last five: D/W/L/W/W

Key Stat: FC Dallas are unbeaten in their last 11 regular season games at Toyota Stadium (W9 D2).

Key Player: Jordan Morris – The Sounders rookie forward has inspired Seattle in recent weeks, having scored in four consecutive matches. No MLS rookie has ever scored in five-straight games but Morris will hope to set that record on Saturday night with another impressive display.

Seattle Sounders vs San Jose Earthquakes Jordan Morris

Score Prediction

FC Dallas 1-1 Seattle Sounders – FC Dallas are favourites for this one, given their impressive home record, but the short delay between matches may leave them fatigued. Seattle will hope to capitalise but they have yet to win away in three attempts this season and would probably be happy enough with a draw here. That’s the way this looks likely to end, though both will fancy their chances.

MLS Preview and Prediction: FC Dallas vs Sporting Kansas City

Competition: Major League Soccer – FC Dallas vs Sporting Kansas City

Venue: Toyota Stadium – Sunday, April 17 – 19:00 ET (00:00 BST)

Match Odds: FC Dallas 8/11 – Draw 11/4 – Kansas City 15/4

Match Preview

FC Dallas host Sporting Kansas City at Toyota Stadium on Sunday night in a clash between two sides at the very top of the Western Conference.

FC Dallas impressed in the first outing of their double game week on Wednesday, winning 3-1 away against Portland Timbers in a tie that saw them net three times within the first half hour.

Oscar Pareja’s side are top of the Western Conference and lead the Supporters’ Shield standings heading into the weekend. Their home form has been impeccable and they have scored at least twice in ten of their last 11 outings in front of their own fans.

Dallas won the last meeting between the sides at Toyota Stadium 3-1 and will be hoping they can repeat that result this time around to remain top of the pile at this early stage of the campaign.

Sporting Kansas City suffered a 2-1 defeat at home to Colorado Rapids in the first outing of their double game week on Wednesday evening in what was a surprise result.

They dropped from top of the West to second and now trail Dallas by two points heading into this tie. Peter Vermes will be ruing his side’s late lapse of concentration after they had levelled against Colorado before then throwing away a share of the points.

SKC will be feeling confident heading into this tie as they have won the last three meetings between the side’s in all competitions, scoring 13 times in those matches.

Team News

FC Dallas have just two injury concerns heading into this tie as Alex Zendejas and Mauro Diaz are both expected to miss out. Carlos Gruezo is one caution away from suspension and will need to watch his step.

Sporting Kansas City have seven injury concerns. Justin Mapp, Soni Mustivar, Kevin Ellis and Chance Myers are all expected to miss out, while Brad Davis, Matt Besler and Paulo Nagamura are all doubts. Key players Dom Dwyer and Benny Feilhaber started Wednesday’s game on the bench but should both start from the outset here.

Key Points

FC Dallas’ form: W/W/D/D/W

Sporting Kansas City’s form: W/W/L/W/L

Key Stat: FC Dallas are unbeaten in their last 11 MLS matches at Toyota Stadium.

Key Player: Tesho Akindele – The Dallas forward has netted three in six so far this season including the third for his side in midweek and looks to be in good shape. He will want to add to his tally here and fire Dallas to success once more.

Score Prediction

FC Dallas 2-1 Sporting Kansas City – FC Dallas look set to inflict a second loss in as many matches on Sporting Kansas City and remain top of the Western Conference. They are a real force, particularly at home, and have to be fancied above Sporting KC to take all three points on Sunday.

MLS Preview and Prediction: DC United vs FC Dallas

Competition: Major League Soccer – DC United vs. FC Dallas

Venue: RFK Stadium – Saturday, March 26 – 21:30 GMT (17:30 ET)

Match Odds: DC United 13/8 – Draw  23/10 – FC Dallas 17/10

Match Preview

DC United welcome FC Dallas to RFK Stadium on Saturday in a weekend with minimal MLS action due to the international games taking place across the globe.

DC’s struggles up top are ongoing and they have only scored twice in their three outings so far this season. Ben Olsen is going to need to ensure his side are as tight as possible at the back to make sure the goals they are scoring are having an impact in their fixtures.

The Black and Red are yet to win this season and come into this tie off the back of their draw against Colorado last time out.

The boost for DC will be that they have won the last two meetings between these sides at RFK 4-1, so they’ll be hoping history repeats itself once again to give them their much needed first win of the 2016 regular season.

FC Dallas are sitting 4th in the Western Conference after their solid start to the season. They have won two of their three ties so far but there is still room for improvement.

Oscar Pareja will be delighted with how his side bounced back from their 5-0 drubbing at the hands of Houston Dynamo two weeks ago, after his side won 2-0 over Montreal Impact last time out.

Dallas havent won at RFK since 2010 and will be hoping to capitalise on DC’s slow start to the new campaign this weekend.

The international break has left the Dallas side depleted heading into this tie so it will be real a test of Pareja’s squad depth.

Team News

DC United have four injury concerns as Bill Hamid, Andrew Dykstra, Chris Korb and Markus Halsti are all expected to miss out. Alvaro Saborio and Steve Birnbaum have both been called up for international duty.

FC Dallas have two injury concerns heading into this tie. Alex Zendejas it out, while Coy Craft is a doubt. Tesho Akindele, Moises Hernandez, Maynor Figueroa, Jesse Gonzalez, Atiba Harris, Kellyn Acosta and Walker Zimmerman are all on international duty.

Key Points

DC United’s form: L/D/D

FC Dallas’ form: W/L/W

Key Stat: Leaky – FC Dallas have conceded at least two goals in their last three away Major League Soccer outings.

Key Player: Fabian Espindola – The DC forward netted his sides late equaliser last weekend.

Score Prediction

DC United 1-1 FC Dallas – These two are tough to split for different reasons this weekend. DC United have had a difficult start to the 2016 season and Dallas have a lightweight squad due to the amount of players who have been called up for international duty. Both sides will be happy with a tie in this one.

2016 MLS Season Preview: FC Dallas

As the 2016 MLS season edges closer, we’ll be publishing each team’s MLS 2016 Season Preview. Today we take a look at what FC Dallas will be hoping to achieve this season.

FC Dallas enter 2016 in good shape and will be desperate to go one better than they managed last term, losing one game before the 2015 MLS Cup Final. Oscar Pareja has a talented squad at his disposal and knows that his side have a great chance of winning the Western Conference for a second-straight season. Dallas picked up 60 points over the course of the regular season last time out – their highest-ever points total in MLS – and beating that impressive tally would surely guarantee another year full of excitement and promise.

Last season’s finish:

Western Conference – Position: 1st – P34 – W18 – D6 – L10

Embed from Getty Images

What needs to change this year?

Very little. The real challenge for Dallas will be trying to keep things the same, rather than make changes to the team style and approach. They won the joint-most games in MLS in 2015 (18) and had the best home record in the league, amassing 41 points from a possible 51. Keeping Toyota Stadium a fortress will be important. Blas Perez and David Texeira have both left the club and so Dallas will hope they can continue scoring goals as freely without those two.

Key changes to squad:

Ins: Maximiliano Urruti – Forward, Carlos Gruezo – Midfielder, Maynor Figueroa – Defender, Carlos Lizarazo – Forward & Mauro Rosales – Midfielder.

Outs: Bakary Soumare – Defender, David Texeira – Forward, Michel – Midfielder, Stephen Keel – Defender, Dan Kennedy – Goalkeeper, Rolando Escobar – Midfielder, Blas Perez – Forward & Je-Vaughn Watson – Defender.

Key Player:

Embed from Getty Images

Fabian Castillo – Forward – Fabian Castillo has continued to improve as a winger with every season he has played in MLS. He scored ten goals and picked up nine assists in 34 regular season appearances last term – proving how important he is to the side. His pace and tricky dribbling make him impossible to contain and when he’s on song, Dallas normally walk away with three points. The Colombian completed more dribbles than any other player in MLS last term and will expect to do the same again in 2016.

One to Watch:

Carlos Gruezo – Midfielder – Gruezo joins FC Dallas as a Designated Player from Bundesliga side Stuttgart and big things are expected of the 20 year old this season and beyond. He can play in various positions and is experienced for a player of his age, having already played in a World Cup. Oscar Pareja is excited about the acquisition of the Ecuadorian and believes he will make the entire squad better.

Predicted Finish:

Western Conference – 2nd – Dallas should remain right at the very top of the Western Conference in 2016 and will be expecting to have another good playoff run too, with a young and energetic roster at Pareja’s disposal. The worry will be that they will have to get used to life without Blas Perez and David Texeira, who made 37 regular season starts between them in 2015, but that shouldn’t take too long and so FC Dallas look set for another highly promising campaign.

What are you expecting from FC Dallas in 2016?

MLS Playoff Preview and Prediction: FC Dallas vs Seattle Sounders

Competition: MLS Playoffs (Western Conference Semifinal Second Leg) – FC Dallas vs. Seattle Sounders

Venue: Toyota Stadium – Sunday, November 8 – 19:30 ET (00:30 GMT)

Match Odds: FC Dallas 10/11 – Draw 5/2 – Seattle Sounders 3/1

Match Preview

FC Dallas face Seattle Sounders on Sunday evening in the crucial second leg of their Western Conference MLS Playoff Semifinal.

The first leg ended with Dallas losing 2-1 late on after Clint Dempsey’s wonder-goal earned the Sounders a vital win. This tie is far from over though and Dallas will be aware of that.

FC Dallas boast brilliant home form, winning nine of their last ten, and they have the ability to turn this around. But recent form against Seattle would suggest this is going to be a tough task, having only won one of their last five against Sunday’s opponents.

Dallas have scored 24 goals in their last ten games, so are in great form in front of goal and there are plenty of positives despite being behind on aggregate. Dallas didn’t finish top of the Western Conference by chance.

Seattle Sounders vs FC Dallas

Seattle Sounders have done half the job, but this a bigger challenge than the one they faced last week.

Dempsey’s late winner was a huge moment for them in the tie, but conceding the Dallas away goal was a real blow and could prove to be their undoing.

Sounders need to approach this positively and not be overly cautious. If Dallas sense any nerves it could be an evening of disappointment for the away side.

Seattle haven’t lost to Dallas this season (W2 D1) with the only meeting between the sides at Toyota Stadium ending 0-0, so Seattle know they have a great chance of progressing but will have to be at their best.

Seattle Sounders vs Portland Timbers

Team News

FC Dallas have three injury concerns. Rolando Escobar is out, while Bakary Soumare and Kellyn Acosta are doubts.

Seattle Sounders have seven injury concerns as Roman Torres, Andres Correa and Andy Craven are out. Osvaldo Alonso, Brad Evans, Leonardo Gonzalez and Marco Pappa are all doubts.

Key Points

FC Dallas’ form: D/W/W/W/L

Seattle Sounders’ form: D/D/W/W/W

Key Stat: Fortress – FC Dallas have won nine of their last ten home matches in Major League Soccer.

Key Player: Fabian Castillo – The Dallas star netted his side’s only goal in the first leg and FCD will need him to be at his best if they are to progress. His pace can cause any side problems and he could be the real star on Sunday.

Seattle Sounders vs FC Dallas Fabian Castillo

Score Prediction

FC Dallas 3-1 Seattle Sounders – Dallas to turn the tie around and advance. You have to feel their crucial away goal will prove to be the difference in this one. If they are to score early on, the Sounders have to push, which will inevitably leave gaps in their defence. This one will be well worth the watch as goals look inevitable.

MLS Preview and Prediction: FC Dallas vs San Jose Earthquakes

Competition: Major League Soccer – FC Dallas vs. San Jose Earthquakes

Venue: Toyota Stadium – Sunday, October 25 – 19:00 ET (23:00 GMT – Live on Sky Sports 2 – Red Button)

Match Odds: Dallas 4/5 – Draw 14/5 – San Jose 3/1

Match Preview

FC Dallas host the San Jose Earthquakes in one of the biggest games on MLS Decision Day this Sunday with both left with enormous amounts to play for in the Western Conference.

The final regular season game for both will ultimately decide the success or failure of their seasons to a degree. Dallas are chasing a first-ever Supporters’ Shield, while San Jose are looking to make the playoffs for the first time in three years.

Dallas have already sealed top spot in the West, with last weekend’s 1-0 win at Real Salt Lake ensuring they can enjoy a bye week through the knockout rounds of the upcoming playoffs.

FC Dallas’ MLS record: P33 – W17 – D6 – L10

They have never won the Supporters’ Shield but are tied with the New York Red Bulls at the top of the league standings going into MLS Decision Day, though New York have a superior goal difference of six. If the Red Bulls fail to win in their earlier game with Chicago Fire, then the door will be wide open for Dallas to claim the shield.

San Jose come into the final weekend of the regular season one point below the playoff line in the West. They have found form late on and are unbeaten in three now. A point in Dallas could be enough for a top six finish but a win will obviously boost their chances.

The Quakes will be hoping Sporting Kansas City and/or Seattle Sounders slip up on the final day to give themselves a good chance of making the postseason, though a loss in Texas would end their dreams for another year.

This is a repeat fixture of both clubs’ opening games of the 2015 MLS season. Dallas won that game 1-0 thanks to a very late Blas Perez goal. The most recent meeting at Avaya Stadium ended 0-0 in June. San Jose have not won in their last three meetings with Dallas.

Team News

FC Dallas will be without Rolando Escobar for this one, while Bakary Soumare and Kellyn Acosta are both doubts.

San Jose Earthquakes travel to Dallas without Innocent Emeghara, Steven Lenhart, Jordan Stewart, Paulo Renato and Jean-Baptiste Pierazzi. Anibal Godoy will also miss out as he serves a one-game suspension for yellow card accumulation.

Key Points

FC Dallas’ last five: L/W/D/W/W

San Jose Earthquake’s last five: D/L/W/D/W

Key Stat: San Jose haven’t scored against FC Dallas in their last three meetings. It’s now been 316 minutes since the Quakes last netted against FCD.

Key Player: Fabian Castillo – The Dallas winger leads the team in goals with nine. He’s a constant threat and one of the most productive players in MLS on his day. He will look to shine on a big day for Dallas.

Photo: Denise McCooey

Score Prediction

FC Dallas 2-1 San Jose Earthquakes – This is an enormous game for both clubs and a really tough one to call. Both have key playmakers that can turn matches in one play but home advantage and the chance of winning a first Supporters’ Shield mean we’re just edging with FC Dallas. San Jose will put up a real fight but they haven’t beaten Dallas in their last three and may come up short at the final hurdle.

MLS Preview and Prediction: FC Dallas vs Houston Dynamo

Competition: Major League Soccer Regular Season – FC Dallas vs. Houston Dynamo

Venue: Toyota Stadium – Sunday, October 4 – 17:00 ET (22:00 BST)

Match Odds: FC Dallas 3/4 – Draw 15/4 – Houston Dynamo 100/30

Match Preview

FC Dallas look to push for the Western Conference and continue their hunt for the Supporters’ Shield on Saturday night as Houston Dynamo visit Toyota Stadium for the third Texas Derby of the year.

With two losses in a row, Dallas have lost control of top spot in the Western and need to get back to winning ways quickly to stay within contention with just three weeks to go.

However, their recent form suggests they are prone to a slip up, having lost five of their last eight in MLS and winning the Supporters’ Shield may now be a bridge too far.

FC Dallas’ record in MLS: P29 – W14 – D5 – L10

Photo: Denise McCooey

Photo: Denise McCooey

Houston have lost both previous meetings in this season’s rivalry, with a 2-0 loss and a 4-1 drubbing leaving them without a chance of claiming El Capitan in 2015. The Dynamo have remarkably lost 2-0 away from home five times this season, so scoring on the road is no easy task for Owen Coyle’s men.

And with just three wins in their last eight they have remained short of the form necessary for a playoff berth.

Houston Dynamo’s record in MLS: P31 – W11 – D8 – L12

They are, surprisingly, only three points off Portland in the race for sixth in Western Conference and so a playoff spot is still theirs to play for as we approach the end of the regular season.

Team News

FC Dallas have two first teamer’s doubtful as Dan Kennedy and Bakary Soumare missed the loss to LA Galaxy and may miss the visit of Houston.

Houston Dynamo will be without Jermaine Taylor who has a right quadricep tear and will miss the trip. Kofi Sarkodie has a bruise on his right knee but should be fit to feature.

Key Points

FC Dallas’ last five: W/W/W/L/L

Houston Dynamo’s last five: W/L/L/W/W

Key Stat: FC Dallas have won six of their last seven at home in MLS.

Key Player: Fabian Castillo – The sensational winger has proven once again this season what an asset he is to Dallas and MLS. The Columbian has become the main man for Dallas and as such we believe he will inspire another home win.

Embed from Getty Images

Score Prediction

FC Dallas 2-0 Houston Dynamo – After an impressive stint at home and with the playoffs edging closer, we expect Dallas to ease to victory, probably earning a clean sheet in the process to seal this year’s Texas Derby series with a 100% record.

MLS Preview and Prediction: Sporting Kansas City vs FC Dallas

Competition: Major League Soccer – Sporting Kansas City vs. FC Dallas

Venue: Sporting Park – Friday, September 18 – 19:00 ET (00:00 BST)

Match Odds: Sporting KC 5/4 – Draw 5/2 – Dallas 2/1

Match Preview

Sporting Kansas City host FC Dallas in a crucial Western Conference clash on Friday night with both sides looking to take a huge stride towards sealing an MLS Playoff place.

Sporting KC come into the game in abysmal form, despite looking so strong through most of the season. They are without a win in six and have lost four in their last five league outings.

It must be noted that they have played four-straight road games, however, and so an improved showing is expected when they return to home comforts on Friday. They fell 3-1 to Orlando City last weekend and will need to up their efforts.

Their last league game at Sporting Park saw the team collapse to a shocking 5-0 defeat at the hands of San Jose and supporters will be desperately hoping a repeat performance to that night is not seen again.

Sporting Kansas City’s MLS record: P27 – W11 – D8 – L8

FC Dallas travel to Kansas City just one point behind Supporters’ Shield leaders Vancouver Whitecaps and have won their last three on the bounce, so spirits will be high in their camp.

A 2-1 home win over NYCFC last week saw them pick up three more points and a playoff spot looks to be all but guaranteed. A win in this one would seem them move to the top of the standings for 24 hours at least and that could act as enough motivation to see Dallas win a fourth game on the bounce.

FC Dallas’ MLS record: P27 – W14 – D5 – L8

SKC are hanging on to fifth place in the Western Conference, but have seventh-placed San Jose just one point behind with just a few weeks of the regular season left to play.

This will be the fourth meeting between the two sides this season. The last clash saw SKC beat Dallas 6-2 at Sporting Park in the US Open Cup, while a 4-0 home win came before that in the league. Dallas won the game at Toyota Stadium 3-1.

Team News

Sporting Kansas City are still without Ike Opara and Roger Espinoza, while Amobi Okugo and Chance Myers remain doubts for this one.

FC Dallas have three concerns as Mauro Diaz, Dan Kennedy and Bakary Soumare are all doubtful.

Key Points

Sporting Kansas City’s last five: L/L/L/D/L

FC Dallas’ last five: L/L/W/W/W

Key Stat: There have been 16 goals in the three total games between the two sides so far this season in MLS and the US Open Cup combined. Feast.

Key Player: Dom Dwyer – The English forward always seems to perform better at Sporting Park and will look to spearhead the attack in fine style on Friday night, with SKC desperate for three points.

Score Prediction

Sporting Kansas City 2-2 FC Dallas – Tough to see Sporting winning, despite returning home for the first time in three weeks. Dallas look very strong at the moment and should earn at least a point in what is a huge game for both clubs.
