The New York Red Bulls sealed their place in the Eastern Conference Final with a cagey 1-0 win over DC United at Red Bull Arena on Sunday night to win the tie 2-0 on aggregate.

DC failed to offer much in terms of attacks, despite the fact they travelled to the Red Bulls knowing they needed to score at least once to stand a chance of progressing.

The Red Bulls were on course to advance to the Eastern Conference Final with the scores at 0-0 for most of the game, until Bradley Wright-Phillips popped up with a stoppage time goal to put things beyond any doubt for Jesse Marsch’s side.

The Supporters’ Shield winners will now face Columbus Crew over two legs in the Eastern final to decide who advances to the 2015 MLS Cup Final.

Seattle Sounders managed to beat Cascadia rivals Portland Timbers 2-1 on Sunday night in a key Western Conference clash at CenturyLink Field, despite being outplayed for large parts of the game.

The Timbers wasted several opportunities and will be kicking themselves for leaving Seattle with nothing as they now sit just two points clear of the Sounders with seven regular season games to play.

An early Obafemi Martins goal settled Seattle supporters’ nerves before Brad Evans doubled their lead against the run of play from the penalty spot.

The Timbers rallied to score early in the second-half through Jack Jewsbury but couldn’t find that elusive equaliser as Seattle beat them for the second time at CenturyLink Field this season.

PHOTOS: Exclusive images of new Sounders signing Roman Torres in training

The Seattle Sounders have not been anywhere near good enough in recent times, but they are actively trying to change that by shaking up their roster as we approach the final stretch of the regular season.

A new Designated Player has arrive in the form of Nelson Valdez, while Andreas Ivanschitz has further bolstered the attack. Then, today Panamanian centre-back Roman Torres was acquired using Targeted Allocation Money as Seattle look to start climbing back up the Western Conference.

Torres should bolster the Sounders’ backline and his threat from set-pieces will also prove to be valuable. He helped Panama to a third-place finish at the recent CONCACAF Gold Cup and looks a promising signing.

PHOTOS: Exclusive images from Vancouver and Seattle’s CONCACAF Champions League clash

Just days after the Vancouver Whitecaps piled more misery on the Seattle Sounders with that 3-0 MLS win at CenturyLink Field, the two sides met again in their first CONCACAF Champions League game of the year at BC Place.

The game between the Cascadia rivals ended 1-1 on Wednesday night in what will be seen as a better result for the Sounders than the Whitecaps, especially when you consider Sigi Schmid’s team’s recent form.

Going on the road at earning a point in the Champions League is never a bad result and the Sounders will now hope to kick on in league play when they take to the field against LA Galaxy at StubHub Center on Sunday.

A Lamar Neagle goal tied the game in Vancouver after defender Tim Parker scored with a backheel flick just after 61 minutes as both sides fielded several reserve players.

The two teams will next meet in the Champions League on September 23 at CenturyLink Field in what will be the Sounders’ final group stage game.

The Vancouver Whitecaps leaped to the top of the Western Conference and the 2015 Cascadia Cup standings with an emphatic 3-0 win over the Seattle Sounders at CenturyLink Field on Saturday night.

Spectacular goals from Pa-Modou Kah and Pedro Morales gave the Whitecaps their third-straight win in Seattle, with Kah netting his first two goals of the year in the win.

The defeat was the Sounders’ seventh in their last eight and they have now failed to score in each of their last four matches for the first time in club history.

Sigi Schmid’s team are in trouble and even the return of Clint Dempsey couldn’t help their fortunes turnaround against their rivals.

The two sides now prepare to meet again on Wednesday night in their CONCACAF Champions League game at BC Place.

PHOTOS: Exclusive images from United’s win over Club America in Seattle

Manchester United got their preseason campaign underway in fine style with a solid 1-0 win over Club America in their International Champions Cup match at CenturyLink Field in Seattle, the home of both the Seahawks and Sounders.

Morgan Schneiderlin scored the only goal of the game inside five minutes as he enjoyed a dream start to life in a United shirt, heading in Juan Mata’s cross to the delight of Louis Van Gaal.

“He scored with Southampton, I believe five goals, so it is not a coincidence but we have practised this with him so I was very pleased with the performance,” the Dutchman said after the game.

“We didn’t give a goal away, only one or two chances, so I am satisfied about that. We played like a team and [Club] America was very handy with the ball, all of the players were very aggressive and quick, so it was not so easy.”

United continue their ICC run when they face Major League Soccer outfit San Jose Earthquakes at their new Avaya Stadium on Tuesday night, before facing FC Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain.
