Liverpool look to Champions League finalist as Steven Gerrard replacement – report

Liverpool are targeting Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal as a replacement for club legend Steven Gerrard this summer, according to Gazzetta Dello Sport.

Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard played his last game at Anfield on Saturday in a 3-1 loss to Crystal Palace and Liverpool are now looking at alternatives.

Liverpool have targeted Vidal to bolster their midfield, as Juventus would rather sell Vidal than Paul Pogba, according to reports out of Italy.

It seems that Juventus will lose one of the two midfield stars this summer, with Pogba continuously linked with Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea amongst others, although it now seems that Arturo Vidal is more likely to leave.

The 27 year old has seven goals and four assists in Serie A this season and his dynamic playing style would really improve the current Liverpool midfield.

Vidal was a target of Manchester United last summer and a move to Anfield would be a real boost for Reds fans, though their failure to qualify for the Champions League next season could be a problem.

City are understood to be the first club to make advances on the player by visiting Turin but PSG are reportedly ready to stump up the asking price to beat of competition for the French international.

Pogba could yet find himself playing in this season’s Champions League final as his Juventus side take a narrow 2-1 lead into their semi-final second leg against Real Madrid at the Bernabeu on Wednesday night.

Yaya Toure is expected to leave City this summer and Pogba is viewed as the perfect replacement should he do so.

Chelsea, City and United handed HUGE boost in race for £58m-rated superstar

Premier League trio ChelseaManchester City and Manchester United have been handed a huge boost in their pursuit of Juventus superstar Paul Pogba as the Italian club are looking to rebuild this summer, according to the Daily Mail.

The 22-year-old midfielder has been on the radar of some of European football’s giants after yet another impressive season and Chelsea, Manchester City, Manchester United, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Paris Saint Germain are said to be chasing his services.

It is reported that PSG made the Frenchman an astonishing £210,000-a-week offer, but Pogba’s representatives are looking for more as interest in the Frenchman is so high.

His services are going to set back any potential outfit around £58 million and with Financial Fair Play regulations, clubs will need to be selling at least one top player in order to fund any possible move.

There has been previous talk of player-plus-cash deals, especially surrounding Chelsea with regards to Oscar heading to Juventus. But Jose Mourinho hasn’t given any indications that he plans to allow the Brazilian playmaker to depart and Oscar has claimed he is settled.

With Yaya Toure’s departure from Manchester City looking imminent that seems a more likely destination than Chelsea, but City will need to be working hard to meet the regulations of FFP.

The excitement around this deal is continually on the rise and it could be a summer-long saga for a club to secure his services in such a huge move, not too dissimilar to Gareth Bale’s move in 2013, as Pogba looks to be the number one target for club’s across Europe.

Liverpool legend reveals who City need after ‘pathetic’ title defence

It is no secret that Manchester City have not been good enough this season and will have to make some key changes over the summer to come back as a force again next season.

And Liverpool legend Jamie Redknapp has told Sky Sports that City need Paul Pogba after a ‘pathetic’ defence of their Premier League title.

“I expect Yaya Toure to leave Manchester City this summer – and they need to sign Paul Pogba to replace him,” Redknapp said.

“After winning two trophies last season, this has been a pathetic defence of their Premier League title from City and their ageing squad desperately needs refreshing.”

Many of Europe’s elite have been linked with Juventus ace Pogba, and his services will require a world record transfer fee, according to his agent.

Transfermarkt.co.uk rate Pogba at £44 million, which is £42 million less than the current record transfer fee that saw Gareth Bale move to Real Madrid in 2013.

Redknapp highly regards Pogba and says it is no surprise that so many clubs are chasing his services.

“He’s a fantastic talent who can do everything. Players like him don’t come along very often and at 22 years old he has a huge future in front of him.”

If City are to sign Pogba it will be a real kick in the teeth to the Frenchman’s former club, Manchester United, to see him sign for their noisy neighbours.

The young midfield enforcer has been linked with Paris Saint Germain, Real Madrid, Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City so whoever wins the race for his signature will be a stronger force.
