The Premier League’s best player is already planning a move to MLS

Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne is at the peak of his powers and is the frontrunner for this season’s Premier League Player of the Season award. He has taken the league by storm but it turns out he has eyes for MLS and a move to America in the future.

The 26-year-old Belgian midfielder loves the culture of American life and is seemingly planning to make the move to Major League Soccer once his time with Manchester City comes to an end.

He has only recently signed a huge contract extension with City that ties him down until 2023, so don’t expect a move anytime soon. But his agent, Patrik De Koster, has revealed that De Bruyne has already spoken about a potential MLS move.

“I think Kevin will end his career in the USA rather than in Belgium,” De Koster said. “He has already been to America many times on holiday, and he loves the country and its culture. We have often spoken about him ending his career in the MLS.”

“He hasn’t yet had any offers from American clubs, because they know it is not worth bothering as he is at the peak of his career. Clubs in China will probably look longingly at him, but I can’t see him going over to play there.”

De Bruyne has been in incredible form for Man City this season, picking up 14 assists. The Citizens look certain to seal a first Premier League title since 2013/14, with De Bruyne heavily tipped to be named as the league’s Player of the Season.

If he were to move to MLS in the future, it’s likely that New York City FC would be frontrunners for his signature, given their ties with Manchester City. Although the league is growing at an alarming rate and so there will be no shortage of options for a player of De Bruyne’s talent, if and when the day arrives that he is looking for an MLS move.

Do you think Kevin De Bruyne will end his career in MLS? Which club do you think he’d join?

Can anyone stop Manchester City this season?

With 11 wins and one draw from 12 Premier League games, Manchester City have been on another level this season. Pep Guardiola’s men are on the verge of something very special at the Etihad Stadium and they are now red hot favourites to win another Premier League title in the coming months. On current form, it would take a brave man to back against City – the Blues are eight points clear of closest rivals Manchester United.

City have been by far and away the strongest team in England’s top flight this season and it is difficult to look past Pep’s men in the race for the Premier League title. Have a peek here at odds via Sportsbet.io and you’ll notice that City are as short as 1.120 for the crown. Next up is United but Jose Mourinho’s side may struggle to make up the eight-point deficit if star midfielder Paul Pogba suffers another serious injury.

Defensively, City have silenced most of the critics so far. Guardiola’s side have conceded just seven goals this campaign, only United (6) have conceded fewer. Kyle Walker has enjoyed a solid start to life at the Etihad after commanding negative attention due to the transfer fee whilst Ederson Moraes has offered a consistent pair of hands between the posts. If City maintain their current defensive stability, they will cruise to the title.

Kevin de Bruyne and David Silva have been simply sublime in recent months, leading City to victories on a weekly basis. The latter has been doing it on the big stage since moving to the Premier League but it is De Bruyne who has attracted the bulk of the praise in the 2017/18 campaign. Widely tipped to win the PFA Player of the Year award, De Bruyne has been Pep’s standout performer for the most part of the season.

Gabriel Jesus and Sergio Aguero have been the two main beneficiaries upfront, though you could argue that Raheem Sterling and Leroy Sane have also stepped it up this year. With 40 goals so far, City are on course to break various records and that is a testament to Pep’s style of attacking football. You’d be hard-pressed to find another offensive unit in world football that can match the Blues in terms of quality on a consistent basis.

You can’t even criticise the other clubs for their sub-par efforts; City really have been that good. According to Goal, City have made the best start to a season in Premier League history and United are already up against it in the top flight title race. If anyone can mastermind the Red Devils to a shock triumph, it is Mourinho but Guardiola is a wily old fox and City will take some stopping.

There’s even talk of City emulating Arsenal’s “Invincibles” side from the 2003-04 campaign, although it may be a little early for that comparison. We’re not even halfway through the Premier League season and backing Pep’s side to go unbeaten may be a little foolish. For now, winning the title is the primary objective and City look well placed to do just that. Pep’s side are, both on paper and in practice, the best team in English football.

Premier League Preview and Prediction: Leicester City vs Manchester City

Competition: Premier League – Leicester City FC vs. Manchester City

Venue: King Power Stadium – Saturday, December 10 – 17:30 GMT (12:30 ET)

Match Odds: Leicester 18/5 – Draw 3/1 – Man City 7/10

Match Preview

Leicester welcome Manchester City to the King Power Stadium on Saturday evening in a tie contested by two sides who will feel they’re under performing this season.

The Foxes are struggling to live up to the dizzy heights of last season and if they’re not careful they’ll find themselves in a relegation scrap.

Claudio Ranieri’s side are just two points above the bottom three and are in a dismal run of form. They need to get a string of positive results together and push their way up the Premier League table.

Leicester’s smash and grab style of football that won them the league last season isn’t having the same impact as it did, but a win here would make a huge difference to the mood around the King Power.

Manchester City have been on track to challenge for the title from the start of the season but they come into this one having lost both the game and their discipline against Chelsea last weekend.

Pep Guardiola is under a little pressure and things are not going his way. City are now sitting fourth, four points off top spot. While this is not the time to panic, the City players are going to need to step up and strike fear back into their opponents.

City’s season is in good shape, they are well in the title race and, like Leicester, have qualified for the knockout rounds of the Champions League.

However, a loss here would open the possibility of City dropping out of the top four if other results go against them. In what appears to be the most competitive Premier League season ever, there is no hiding place for below-par performances.

Team News

Leicester goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel remains out. Danny Drinkwater will complete his three-game ban on the sideline for this one, other than those two, Ranieri has a clean bill of health for his side.

Manchester City will be without their goal machine Sergio Aguero and midfielder Fernandinho following their red cards last weekend. Guardiola’s selection issues are from back to front as he will also be without Nicolas Otamendi, who received his 5th yellow of the season last weekend, so now faces a one match suspension. Raheem Sterling’s return can’t come soon enough for City, he is expected to still be sidelined for this tie, while Vincent Kompany is out and Fabian Delph is a doubt.

Key Points

Leicester’s last five: D/L/L/D/L

Manchester City’s last five: W/D/W/W/L

Key Stat: Home comforts – Although Leicester are going through a rough patch, their home form is something they have been able to fall back on. They’re lost just once in their last 22 at the King Power.

Key Player: Kevin De Bruyne – The Belgian midfielder will be forgiven for feeling sorry for himself after he wasted a huge chance to put City out of sight in their loss last weekend. He’s not the sort to be denied and will be looking to make amends this time around. KDB will be sniffing in and around the penalty area for a goal.

Score Prediction

Leicester City 1-3 Manchester City – Manchester City need a result following their ill-tempered defeat last weekend. Leicester’s struggles will continue here and City are one of the last sides they will want to be facing while they’re going through this difficult run of form.

Premier League Preview and Prediction: Chelsea vs Manchester City

Competition: Premier League – Chelsea vs. Manchester City

Venue: Stamford Bridge – Saturday, April 16 – 17:30 BST (12:30 ET)

Match Odds: Chelsea 8/5 – Draw 12/5 – Manchester City 13/8

Match Preview

Chelsea welcome Manchester City to Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening in a tie which could have a major impact on the race for a top four finish in the Premier League.

Chelsea players and fans alike will be relieved when their nightmare season is over, but they still have a job to do and will be looking to end the campaign as strongly as possible. Chelsea come into this one off the back of their 1-0 away loss against Swansea – a performance that epitomised their season as they lacked the required quality once again.

The Blues sit 10th in the Premier League, 14 points behind City in 4th and their inability to find consistent form this season leaves little surprise as to why they trail the top four by such a large margin.

Chelsea won the last meeting between these sides 5-1 in the FA Cup, but the City side was completely tinkered with ahead of that tie and almost all 11 regulars didn’t feature.

Manchester City will be full of confidence heading into this tie having reach their first ever Champions League semifinal in midweek.

There is still work to do domestically for City to ensure they finish in the top four. They are four points ahead of 5th place so they cannot afford anything but wins in their remaining games to secure a top four spot. Their fate is in their own hands.

City’s stars will be looking to atone for the 5-1 drubbing last time out at the Bridge and show Chelsea that they would have progressed in the cup were it not for a weaker side taking to the field.

Manchester City have not won at Stamford Bridge since 2013, though they’ll be expecting to put that run to an end this time around in a battle between two sides with little respect for each other.

Team News

Chelsea’s squad is riddled with injuries. Kurt Zouma, Eden Hazard, Loic Remy, John Terry and Nemanja Matic are all expected to miss out, while Gary Cahill and Willian are both doubts. Diego Costa returns from suspension so he will be expecting to start.

Manchester City have just two injury concerns. Raheem Sterling is out while captain Vincent Kompany is still troubled by injury and looks unlikely to feature.

Key Points

Chelsea’s last five in the Premier League: W/D/D/W/L

Manchester City’s last five in the Premier League: W/D/L/W/W

Key Stat: Chelsea have drawn six of their last seven home matches in the Premier League.

Key Player: Kevin De Bruyne – The former Chelsea man is in scintillating form and has scored four in his last five in all competitions. He was instrumental in City’s Champions League progression and will likely come back to haunt his former club on Saturday.

Score Prediction

Chelsea 0-2 Manchester City – City to coast through this tie against a Chelsea side who won’t be a match with the Citizens set to take another step towards a much-needed top four finish. The Blues hadn’t lost in the league under Guus Hiddink until last week but they didn’t look anywhere near good enough to take three points and may struggle against a buoyant City team here.

Norwich come into this one off the back of two wins on the bounce. They have been in a good run of form, having won three of their last five.

The sides have already met this season in the league, with Manchester City coming out 2-1 winners.

Norwich haven’t won in this fixture in their last three at home, (D1, L2). The sides shared a seven goal thriller back in 2012 at Carrow Road.

Manchester City come into this tie off the back of their 2-1 defeat away at Everton in midweek.

City have only won two in their last five games, not form you would associate with the title chasing side.

Manuel Pellegrini will expect nothing less than a win here and progression to the fourth round. City could potentially do a cup double this season and will be ready for the challenge.

Manchester City’s last five in all competitions: L/W/D/W/L

Key Stat: Manchester City are unbeaten in ten of their last 11 games against Norwich in all competitions.

Premier League Preview and Prediction: Stoke vs Manchester City

Competition: Premier League – Stoke City vs. Manchester City

Venue: Brittania Stadium – Saturday, December 5 – 08:45 EST (12:45 GMT)

Match Odds: Stoke City 4/1 – Draw 14/5 – Manchester City 4/6

Match Preview

Manchester City travel to Stoke in Saturday’s lunchtime kickoff as the visitors look to give themselves some breathing space at the top of the Premier League table for a couple of hours at least.

Stoke City will have other plans though as they will see this match as a free swing at a big club and they might see this as something of a ‘nothing to lose’ fixture.

With 12 of their 21 points coming away from home, the Britannia hasn’t been as intimidating this year as it usually is. It did, however, see the Potters beat champions Chelsea last time out 1-0 and a similar result would delight the home crowd as well as former City boss Mark Hughes.

Stoke City’s Premier League record: P14 – W5 – D4 – L5

Stoke are currently the lowest scoring team in the league, having netted just 11 goals, and will put that down as the main reason they are not higher in the table. More success in front of goal could see them break into the top ten but that will be a tough task against the Citizens this week.

The Potters are on a high as they managed to book a place in the League Cup semifinals with a 2-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday night and will hope to keep momentum building.

Manchester City come into this match without a win from last three on the road, which makes it difficult to understand how they find themselves at the top of the Premier League.

City are the highest scorers in the top flight this season (30) and it’s fortunate that they are, given their defensive frailties when captain Vincent Kompany isn’t available.

Without the absences of David Silva, Sergio Aguero and the aforementioned Kompany, City always look a better side and having all three of those back and fit again will be a real boost for the side. Silva is back in action, with Aguero also improving his match fitness levels so things are looking up for Manuel Pellegrini’s men.

Manchester City’s Premier League record: P14 – W9 – D2 – L3

With just two points separating the top four at the moment, City will settle for nothing less than a win on Saturday as they look to take a grip of the league with the busy Christmas schedule about to get underway.

This will be the 15th Premier League clash between the two sides. City have only lost two of the previous 14 meetings and will be hoping for a repeat performance from their last visit to the Britannia as they won 4-1 in February.

Team News

Stoke City are without Shay Given, Peter Crouch and Peter Odemwingie through injury. Marc Muniesa is a doubt but could play a part.

Manchester City will be without several players as Fernando, Jesus Navas, Vincent Kompany, Samir Nasri and Pablo Zabaleta are all suffering with injuries. Joe Hart, Eliaquim Mangala and Sergio Aguero are all doubts but should feature. David Silva returned to the team on Tuesday and will start here.

Key Points

Stoke City’s last five: L/D/W/W/L

Manchester City’s last five: D/W/D/L/W

Key Stat: Manchester City have only lost one of their last 16 meetings with Stoke City.

Key Player: Kevin De Bruyne – Summer signing De Bruyne has been sensational since joining from Wolfsburg and is adding some vital goals from midfield (4) as well as racking up six assists so far. Expect him to be influential on Saturday.

Score Prediction

Stoke City 0-1 Manchester City – Matches between these two are usually low scoring affairs and we’re not expecting that to change too much here. We expect City to win but not by much. This should be a tough game for both, and should make for good viewing.

STATS: Was Jose Mourinho wrong to let these seven players leave Chelsea?

Chelsea‘s form has been a huge topic of conversation after each game so far this season for one reason or another, mostly down to below-par performances.

Key players are failing to provide quality in the same way they did last season, with the likes of Cesc Fabregas, Eden Hazard and Diego Costa the subjects of heavy criticism.

Jose Mourinho has let some big names leave the club since his return in 2013, some of whom are enjoying great form in their domestic seasons with other clubs.

With Chelsea under such pressure at current, it’s difficult not to ask whether some of those names should have been let go, so we took a look at some of those players’ statistics this season.

Screen Shot 2015-11-17 at 16.06.29

Petr Cech’s domestic league stats for 2015/16 as a goalkeeper (via Squawka)

Petr Cech comes out on top in terms of win percentage with an impressive 66.6% in the Premier League with Arsenal, which is 41.6% better than Chelsea’s overall win percentage of 25% in the top flight.

Romelu Lukaku, now at Everton, has bagged seven league goals so far this season. Chelsea’s highest individual goalscorer only has two (Diego Costa, Ramires and Willian).

The highest number of assists from those who have departed have come from Lukaku and Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne on four. Cesc Fabregas, arguably Chelsea’s most creative player, has just one league assist after 12 games.

And perhaps most staggering is the fact that the highest number of losses suffered domestically out of the seven players is only three, four less than Chelsea’s worrying total of seven so far.

While we are not suggesting Mourinho’s transfer policy is wrong, it is clear that his squad is lacking in creativity and goals this season. What we must not forget is that out of these seven players only Petr Cech and Andre Schurrle (departed January 2015) were in the Chelsea squad who won the Premier League last season.

But Chelsea fans would be forgiven for looking at the names in the table above and wishing they could bring them back to Stamford Bridge to try and turn the Blues’ campaign around.

Manchester United welcome rivals Manchester City to Old Trafford on Sunday in the Manchester Derby and a standout fixture of the weekend in the Premier League.

This is a huge fixture for both sides even this early into the season. Manchester United sit third in the Premier League, on 19 points, trailing their opponents by two points.

Louis Van Gaal’s side have won four of their last five domestic games but come into this one off the back of a tough, well earned draw in Moscow in the Champions League in midweek.

Last weekend Manchester United thumped Everton 3-0, and they look like they mean business. Picking up points in games like these have huge implications on the title race.

Manuel Pellegrini’s side come into this one off the back of thumping Bournemouth 5-1, where Raheem Sterling bagged a hat-trick. Wilfred Bony impressed, stepping in for the injured Sergio Aguero.

Manchester City have some injury problems with key players missing, but will be more than up for the task of taking points from United this weekend. They scored a late winner to take all three points against Sevilla in the Champions League in midweek, thanks again to Kevin De Bruyne.

Manchester City talks underway for £35m-rated former Chelsea star – report

Manchester City have started their summer transfer work as talks are ongoing with £35 million-rated playmaker Kevin De Bruyne, according to talkSPORT.

The ex-Chelsea midfielder has attracted interest from top clubs all over Europe after an impressive season in the Bundesliga with Wolfsburg and it is looking likely that he is set for a big money move in the coming months.

The Belgian superstar has found the net ten times and notched 19 assists as he has helped Wolfsburg secure a Champions League place for next season.

Patrick De Koster, De Bruyne’s agent, told talkSPORT that City have confirmed their interest but they are not alone in their pursuit of the talented 23-year-old midfielder.

“Manchester City, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain have made informal contact with me, but there have been no official offers,” De Koster said.

“The situation has now changed with Wolfsburg qualifying for the Champions League next season, so wherever he plays next season it will be in the Champions League.”

De Koster hasn’t revealed too much on where De Bruyne will be playing next season, but insists it will be a Champions League club and the choice of club is with his client.

“If Wolfsburg decide to sell Kevin, then he will have a choice of clubs who can win their domestic league and challenge for the Champions League as well. The choice is his.”

City will be looking to rejig their squad this season after a difficult and frustrating campaign on all fronts and if they can secure De Bruyne it will be a step in the right direction to rebuild.

It looks as if Yaya Toure will be moving on amongst others but De Bruyne will face tough competition for a number-ten role with David Silva enjoying another successful season at the Etihad.

Would Kevin De Bruyne be a good signing for Manchester City? Is he what they need?
