Arsenal and Liverpool suffer setback in pursuit of French international

Arsenal and Liverpool have suffered a setback in the hunt to sign the Ligue 1 top goalscorer Alexandre Lacazette after the Olympique Lyonnais club president Jean-Michel Aulas has made it clear they will do their utmost to keep their star striker at the club.

“We will do everything within our powers to hold on to Alexandre. You never have any certainties in football, but we are determined to keep him here,” said Aulas while speaking to Canal+.

“A transfer fee of €50 million (£36m) would not be enough for an attacker like him. He is priceless.”

Tottenham and Newcastle have also reportedly been interested in the French international who has scored an impressive 27 goals in 33 league appearances this season and also won the Ligue 1 Player of the Year award ahead of Zlatan Ibrahimovic on Sunday.

Aulas knows that Lyon are undoubtedly going to be inundated with offers from England for Lacazette as the Premier League sides look to bolster their attacking options heading into the 2015/16 season.

The 23-year-old striker is contracted with the club until 2018, so Lyon will know they can demand a hefty transfer sum for one of the hottest prospects in French football right now.

Is Alexandre Lacazette worth more than £36 million?

Liverpool to make SHOCK move for Everton youngster – report

Liverpool are lining up a surprise move for Everton left-back Luke Garbutt this summer, according to talkSPORT.

The 21-year-old Englishman is out of contract in a matter of weeks and with talks stalling over a new deal to keep him at Goodison Park, the Reds are ready to pounce, with Bournemouth also interested.

Garbutt has been on the Everton bench in the Premier League 20 times this season and has made just four appearances in the top flight.

But he is highly regarded by the Toffees and a move to Liverpool would certainly cause a stir on Merseyside.

Roberto Martinez came under pressure after Everton’s game at West Ham on Saturday after he decided to play Brendan Galloway at left-back ahead of Garbutt, with Leighton Baines out injured.

Martinez said that decision was made just 90 minutes before kickoff and was based solely on footballing reasons, but it is looking increasingly likely that Garbutt will move on after six years with Everton.

Liverpool are expected to make numerous changes to their squad this season, and signing Garbutt on a free could be one of their early moves.

Would Luke Garbutt be a good signing for Liverpool? How important is he to Everton?

Chelsea and Liverpool to battle for Premier League star

Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko is wanted by Premier League rivals Liverpool and Chelsea, with City reportedly ready to listen to offers.

It has been suggested that a fee of around £25 million would be commanded to sign the Bosnian, as he still has three years left on his current deal, and Liverpool are keeping tabs, according to the Daily Mail.

Although the Mirror have suggested that Chelsea are also in for Dzeko, and will try to sign him for as little as £10 million as they look to replace Didier Drogba.

Dzeko joined City from Wolfsburg in January 2011 for a reported £27 million fee. He has scored a total of 50 goals in 130 appearances for City in the Premier League.

Dzeko was reportedly a target for many European clubs last season with Juventus, Inter Milan, Borussia Dortmund and former club Wolfsburg all showing interest.

After enduring a tough season where he has only started 11 times in the Premier League, scoring only four goals, it looks likely that he will leave.

The signing of Wilfried Bony in January pushed Dzeko further down the pecking order and he will need to move elsewhere to get regular first team football next term.

Should Manchester City sell Edin Dzeko this summer, and if so, which club will he move to?

Liverpool closing in on Premier League goal-machine

Liverpool are closing in on Aston Villa‘s Christian Benteke as the striker is looking to force his way out of the club, according to the Sun.

Benteke has netted 13 goals in 28 Premier League appearances, recapturing the form he showed when he first signed for Villa in 2012.

Brendan Rodgers is expected to enter the summer transfer market in search of a goal-scorer as Rickie Lambert and Mario Balotelli have been linked with moves away from the club. Daniel Sturridge is expected to miss the start of the season so Rodgers will see his options severely limited.

Villa boss, Tim Sherwood, is desperate not to lose his star-man but Benteke is reportedly set to double his wages if he secures a move to Merseyside.

Benteke’s current deal is set to expire in 2017 so any potential club will have to pay around £30 million to secure his services.

Liverpool rocked as star forward set to announce exit plans

Liverpool are set to suffer another setback in the Raheem Sterling transfer saga as Sky Sports report he will tell the club he has no intentions of signing a new deal.

Sky Sports understand that Sterling is due to meet with manager Brendan Rodgers and chief executive Ian Ayre next week for crunch talks regarding his future.

The 20-year-old starlet still has two years to run on his existing contract. Sterling, having already turned down one contract rumoured to be around £100,000-a-week, says he is motivated by trophies.

Liverpool’s failure to regain Champions League status could well play a part in why Sterling may choose to move on.

The club were quick to comment on the situation and claim their position remains unchanged that the Englishman is not for sale.

This could prove to be one of the biggest transfer stories of the summer and a case of ‘will he, won’t he’ in terms of Sterling to stay or depart.

Will Sterling leave Liverpool this summer? Is it the right time for him to move on?

It seems that Juventus will lose one of the two midfield stars this summer, with Pogba continuously linked with Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea amongst others, although it now seems that Arturo Vidal is more likely to leave.

The 27 year old has seven goals and four assists in Serie A this season and his dynamic playing style would really improve the current Liverpool midfield.

Vidal was a target of Manchester United last summer and a move to Anfield would be a real boost for Reds fans, though their failure to qualify for the Champions League next season could be a problem.

Is Arturo Vidal the ideal replacement for Steven Gerrard at Liverpool?

Brendan Rodgers keen on signing Manchester City fringe man – report

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is keen to sign Manchester City striker Stevan Jovetic for as little as £12 million, according to the Daily Mirror.

After two seasons in Manchester, the Montenegrin striker has failed to impress and has played second fiddle to Sergio Aguero.

Jovetic signed in the summer of 2013 for a reported £22 million fee, so City could lose out on half their investment should the deal take place.

With only eight goals in 30 appearances in the Premier League, Manuel Pellegrini is set to allow Jovetic to leave.

And with Mario Balotelli and Rickie Lambert continuously linked with moves away, Liverpool will need to find replacements as they will need backup for Daniel Sturridge, should the pair leave.

All that is certain is there will be an overhaul at Liverpool this summer once again, as they will look to replace the outgoing Steven Gerrard and also the hole left by Luis Suarez’s departure last summer.

Do you think Stevan Jovetic would be a good signing for Liverpool?

Liverpool set to make move for £4m-rated Premier League star – report

Liverpool are looking to raid Southampton for the second successive summer as they line up a move for Portuguese centre-back Jose Fonte, according to the Daily Mirror.

Brendan Rodgers wants Fonte to replace Kolo Toure at Anfield as the Ivorian’s contract expires at the end of the season, while Martin Skrtel has yet to pen a new deal with just over 12 months to run on his.

Fonte has been exceptional under Ronald Koeman this season and has appeared in 35 of the Saints’ 36 games, helping the club to boast the second best defensive record in the top flight.

The 31-year-old defender was made Southampton captain last summer when Adam Lallana left to join the Reds, and a move to Liverpool would see Fonte reunite with Dejan Lovren and Rickie Lambert too.

Fonte has two years left on his Saints contract but could be available at the right price as Koeman looks to reshape his squad this summer.

He is valued at £4 million by and could be a cheap option for Rodgers to explore as he looks to bolster his backline ahead of next season.

Southampton will not want a repeat of last summer where several first-team stars left the club in quick succession. Jay Rodriguez penned a new contract on Tuesday, while talks are ongoing to keep Nathaniel Clyne at St Mary’s next year.

Fonte could be in high demand though as Manchester United and former club Benfica are both also interested in the powerful centre-back.

Would Jose Fonte be a good signing for Liverpool?

Liverpool make move for £12m-rated Serie A winger – report

Liverpool have made a ‘tentative approach’ towards AC Milan regarding the availability of Frenchman Jeremy Menez, according to Tuttosport.

Menez could be swayed by the possibility of European football next season as Milan have fallen short of securing it for another season and Liverpool look to have all but sealed Europa League football.

Menez would be another attacking option for the Reds as they look to bolster their frontline due to the injury to Daniel Sturridge that rules him out until September, and the lack of goals from attacking duo Rickie Lambert and Mario Balotelli, both of whom are linked with moves away this summer.

The 28-year-old winger is valued at £12.3 million by and has been somewhat prolific this term for Milan, netting 16 times in 33 appearances in Serie A, and would be a healthy addition to a side that sees Steven Gerrard as their top goalscorer with just eight.

Liverpool seem to have acted quickly to establish a new target following their disappointing chase of Memphis Depay after the striker agreed to join Manchester United late last week.

But the Reds will face competition from AS Monaco for the French international’s signature if they are to secure his services.
