United to turn to £8m Premier League star after DOUBLE transfer blow – report

Manchester United are prepared for a goalkeeping merry-go-round this summer as David De Gea looks increasingly unlikely to sign a new contract, and so a new shot-stopper will need to be brought in, with Stoke’s Asmir Begovic now being lined up, according to the Daily Star.

De Gea has reportedly been offered £200,00-a-week to stay at Old Trafford but he is set to reject that offer with just one year to go on his current deal, and so United will have to accept the pending offer Real Madrid are set to put on the table.

Louis Van Gaal is preparing for the worst as he looks to potential replacements for the Spaniard, but the Dutchman’s first-choice replacement, Hugo Lloris, looks out of reach as Spurs are demanding too much.

United chief executive Ed Woodward values Lloris at £20 million but Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy will hold out for nearer £30 million so a deal for the Frenchman looks unlikely.

The Red Devils will therefore turn to Stoke’s Asmir Begovic, who has just one year to go on his deal, and could sign the Bosnian for around £8 million.

Begovic has been in the Premier League with Stoke for five-and-a-half seasons and has established himself as one of the league’s most consistent ‘keepers.

Stoke would rather cash in on the 27-year-old now rather than lose him for free next summer, with young Englishman Jack Butland waiting in the wings at the Britannia.

Victor Valdes is already at United but it is believed he will remain backup, even if De Gea departs, and so Begovic could be set for a major move this summer.

Would Asmir Begovic be a good signing for Manchester United? Are the Red Devils resigned to losing De Gea now?

United set to make move for £17m-rated Spurs star – report

Manchester United will make a summer move for Tottenham’s Hugo Lloris if David De Gea departs in the coming months, according to the Daily Mirror.

De Gea has yet to sign a contract extension at the club and there are growing fears he will leave to join Real Madrid this summer. He has one year left on his current deal so would be in a position to leave for free next summer if he stays at United for one more season.

That’s not something that the Red Devils will want as they could scoop as much as £30 million for their star performer, with Madrid expected to make a serious approach after the season ends.

If the 24-year-old Spaniard does depart, United will reportedly make a move for Spurs star Lloris. The Frenchman is one of Tottenham’s most important players but he wants to be playing in the Champions League, something the Lilywhites don’t look likely to offer again next term.

United are currently seven points ahead of Spurs in fourth place and look set to return to Europe’s elite competition next season and will hope that can lure Lloris to Old Trafford.

Paris Saint-Germain have also been linked with the 28-year-old French captain who has four years left on his current Spurs deal and is valued at £17.6 million by transfermarkt.co.uk.

De Gea could yet pen a new contract but talks have been ongoing for months now and there has been no resolution. With just four weeks of the Premier League season to go, time is running out for United to retain the services of their star man.

Is this Chelsea star in for a shock move to Spurs?

Tottenham Hotspur have joined the race for Chelsea‘s Petr Cech as a potential replacement for Paris Saint-Germain target Hugo Lloris, according to the Daily Mirror.

Spurs are looking at replacements for Lloris as PSG have upped their interests in the French superstar, with Steve Mandanda another possible arrival.

Petr Cech hasn’t been hiding from the fact that he looks set to depart Chelsea this summer as he is frustrated by playing second fiddle to Thibaut Courtois, who has established himself as Jose Mourinho’s first-choice stopper.

The 32-year-old goalkeeper has been with the Blues since 2004 and it seems his immensely successful career in West London is coming to end, though he could well sign off with his fourth Premier League trophy.

Cech would be an ideal replacement for Lloris due to his vast Premier League experience and if it were not for Chelsea looking to the future he would more than likely still be their number one.

Spurs would face tough competition to acquire his services though, as a whole host of top European sides are monitoring his situation, with Liverpool and Arsenal also tracking the Czech Republic international.

Cech is also a target for PSG but if they choose to offer Spurs big money for Lloris, then the Lilywhites could reinvest by meeting Chelsea’s £10 million valuation for the commanding ‘keeper.

Is this French star set to replace Hugo Lloris at Spurs?

Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris is again being linked with a move away from the club, with the latest reports suggesting Paris Saint-Germain are ready to step up their interests in the France captain.

Lloris is one of Europe’s best goalkeepers and if Spurs fail to make the Champions League again this season, he may look to move on after three years in North London.

Spurs fan will hope that is not the case, but if the worst happens then fellow French stopper Steve Mandanda could be brought in as his replacement, after revealing he would like to follow in Lloris’ footsteps.

“My ambition is to play at a big European club,” Mandanda told France Football. “I also have the desire to experience something else abroad. But if I have to leave for different reasons, I won’t go just anywhere, nor at any price.

“Like a lot of players, it’s a destination that attracts me – the Premier League is one of the best leagues in the world. It’s also the one that’s most in the media spotlight, but I am not fixed on one choice in particular.”

Mandanda has been with Ligue 1 side Marseille for the past eight years, winning the division’s Goalkeeper of the Year award twice. Lloris won the same award three times himself while with Lyon and the French ‘keepers have battled for the starting role with Les Bleus for their entire careers.

Mandanda has kept more league clean sheets in France this season (9) than Lloris has managed in the Premier League (7), and while Lloris is the better goalkeeper, Mandanda would surely be a good replacement at White Hart Lane if the Spurs star joins PSG this summer.

Michel Vorm was brought in from Swansea City last year but has struggled to really impress in a Spurs shirt and is likely to remain second choice if a replacement for Lloris is needed.
