Should Mourinho be looking to replace Martial with this £40m Premier League champion?

Jose Mourinho will no doubt ring the changes at Manchester United this summer. His first season in charge has been steadily improving but he needs to bring more quality to the squad in order to compete for the title in 2017/18.

One man who has struggled more than most under the Portuguese manager is Anthony Martial. He’s struggled to make much of an impact throughout the current campaign and while he is still young, he has offered little to show Mourinho that he is the best winger for United next season. Fans and pundits alike know Mourinho is ruthless and if he sees the potential to cash in on an underperforming player, he’ll do it.

Jesse Lingard has been included in the matchday squad more times than the Frenchman – 38 times to 36 – and considering the money spent to bring him to the club, that is a worrying statistic for Martial.

A potential replacement for the former Monaco man could be Chelsea’s Willian. The Brazilian has seen his game time limited this season at Stamford Bridge and has found himself second choice to the in-form Pedro. Mourinho is a huge fan of Willian and would no doubt love to sign him for United.

The 28 year old won the Premier League with Mourinho at Chelsea and would be an ideal fit for United. He is a set-piece specialist and would offer the Red Devils more than their current options for free-kick and corner duties.

Willian’s is currently valued at just below £30 million by transfermarkt and United would have to pay a little over the odds for him from a rival club. An offer of £40m should be enough to secure his services if Mourinho can persuade him to leave and Chelsea to sell in the coming months.

Would Willian be an ideal fit for United? Is he a better option than Martial?

Real Madrid make official £14m offer to United for star man – report

Real Madrid have put a firm offer on the Manchester United table for goalkeeper David De Gea, according to Marca.

The Spanish giants have long been linked with a move for United’s shot-stopper and with an official €20 million (£14.45) offer now reportedly made, it looks as if De Gea is edging closer to an Old Trafford exit after four seasons.

United want closer to £36 million for their star man but Madrid president Florentino Perez won’t go higher than £21 million.

De Gea joined United from Atletico Madrid for £17.8 million in 2011 but it doesn’t look like they’ll make much of a profit, if any, on that amount as he only has 12 months left on his current contract.

He hasn’t penned a new United deal and so the club will be forced to cash in on their number one this summer.

The 24-year-old Spain international was taken off in United’s final home game of the season against Arsenal on Sunday with a hamstring injury that could rule him out of the club’s final league game, so he could have played his last match for the Red Devils.

Louis Van Gaal did little to quash rumours of an exit after the Arsenal game and made it sound as if the club are resigned to losing their young ‘keeper.

“He is Spanish and his girlfriend is Spanish and he can go to another great club, so it is difficult for him to decide, but the club won’t let him go easily,” Van Gaal said.

Has David De Gea played his last game for Manchester United? Is he worth more than £14 million?

United to turn to £8m Premier League star after DOUBLE transfer blow – report

Manchester United are prepared for a goalkeeping merry-go-round this summer as David De Gea looks increasingly unlikely to sign a new contract, and so a new shot-stopper will need to be brought in, with Stoke’s Asmir Begovic now being lined up, according to the Daily Star.

De Gea has reportedly been offered £200,00-a-week to stay at Old Trafford but he is set to reject that offer with just one year to go on his current deal, and so United will have to accept the pending offer Real Madrid are set to put on the table.

Louis Van Gaal is preparing for the worst as he looks to potential replacements for the Spaniard, but the Dutchman’s first-choice replacement, Hugo Lloris, looks out of reach as Spurs are demanding too much.

United chief executive Ed Woodward values Lloris at £20 million but Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy will hold out for nearer £30 million so a deal for the Frenchman looks unlikely.

The Red Devils will therefore turn to Stoke’s Asmir Begovic, who has just one year to go on his deal, and could sign the Bosnian for around £8 million.

Begovic has been in the Premier League with Stoke for five-and-a-half seasons and has established himself as one of the league’s most consistent ‘keepers.

Stoke would rather cash in on the 27-year-old now rather than lose him for free next summer, with young Englishman Jack Butland waiting in the wings at the Britannia.

Victor Valdes is already at United but it is believed he will remain backup, even if De Gea departs, and so Begovic could be set for a major move this summer.

Would Asmir Begovic be a good signing for Manchester United? Are the Red Devils resigned to losing De Gea now?

Manchester United and Spurs to battle for £7m-rated Serie A defender

Manchester United and Tottenham look set to battle for Torino captain Kamil Glik this summer, according to Italian media outlet Tuttosport.

The 27-year-old centre-back is a powerful defender and is very strong in the air. Louis Van Gaal and Mauricio Pochettino will both likely be in the market for a new defender this summer and the Premier League rivals look set to battle for the signature of Glik.

He has been with Torino for four years and has captained the side for the past two seasons. Torino are desperate to keep the Polish international, who signed a new three-year contract last May, but interest from Spurs and United could prove too much of a lure for the player.

Glik, who scored against England in a World Cup qualifier in October 2012, is valued at £7 million by and would be a interesting acquisition if either club opts to make the move.

He has scored an impressive seven goals in 29 Serie A appearances this season and is a real threat from set-pieces.

The Torino fans have a strong connection with Glik and would not want to see their leader depart but their loss could be Spurs or United’s gain in the coming months.

Would Kamil Glik be a good signing for Tottenham or Manchester United? Do they need another centre-back?

Manchester United given transfer scare as superstar travels to Madrid

Manchester United fans will be worried by the fact that goalkeeper David De Gea has flown home to Spain after being given time off by Louis Van Gaal.

De Gea flew to Madrid on Monday night in a decision likely to be based on seeing his family, though rumours of a move to Los Blancos will only pick back up because of it.

The 24-year-old shot-stopper has been in subliminal form this term and has been United’s Player of the Season. But he has yet to pen a new deal, with just one year left on his current contract, and Real Madrid are circling.

The Spanish giants want De Gea to come in as the long-term replacement for Iker Casillas and although he has remained quiet on the issue, the United star is believed to be keen on the idea of a return to his homeland.

His future will be decided this summer as United will have to sell if he does not sign a new contract and a trip to Madrid before the season has even ended will do little to quash rumours that he on the way out of Old Trafford.

Will David De Gea still be a Manchester United player next season?

United suffer MAJOR blow in chase for no.1 transfer target

Manchester United have been dealt a major transfer blow as Real Madrid star Gareth Bale is unlikely to leave the club this summer, his agent has claimed.

United made their first move of the summer by agreeing to the signing of PSV Eindhoven’s Memphis Depay on Thursday in a deal worth around £25 million and the Daily Express are reporting that Louis Van Gaal will spend £200 million more to bolster the squad, with Bale at the top of the shortlist.

Though the former Tottenham attacker’s agent, Jonathan Barnett, has told Sky Sports that a move away from Madrid is not on the agenda.

“Why would he look to go elsewhere?

“Real Madrid are the number one club in the world. There’s always interest in him – but as far as we are concerned he’ll be at Real Madrid next summer,” he said.

Bale has scored 13 goals with eight assists in 29 league appearances this season but that’s not as productive as last term as the Welshman netted 15 goals with 13 assists in 27 league games in his debut campaign in Spain.

Van Gaal sees Bale as the man to fire United back to the top of the Premier League but the Red Devils are also said to be chasing the signatures of Mats Hummels, Nathaniel Clyne, Ilkay Gundogan and Edinson Cavani as it looks set to be a busy summer at Old Trafford.

Do Manchester United need to sign Gareth Bale to have any chance of winning the Premier League next season?

Is this £57m-rated United star on the way out of Old Trafford?

With the news today that Manchester United have secured the signing of Memphis Depay from PSV Eindhoven, Louis Van Gaal has already started his summer revamp of his current squad.

The signing of Depay, naturally a winger, could spell the end of Angel Di Maria‘s United nightmare after just one season.

It is no secret that Di Maria was linked with a move to Paris Saint Germain in last summer’s transfer window and that could be a likely destination for him next season if the French giants are willing to pay the huge transfer fee needed.

The Argentine ace has featured 19 times in the Premier League for Van Gaal, scoring just three, but he has racked up an impressive ten assists in his debut campaign in England’s top flight.

In stark contrast Depay has netted 21 Eredivise goals and notched four assists in 28 appearances.

The fee for the 21-year-old is reported to be around £25-30 million and if United were to move Di Maria on they will make twice that amount as he is valued at £57.2 million by

Van Gaal is clearly expecting more from his forwards and this signing is a statement that he is eager to get his business underway early ahead of his first full summer in charge.

Could the signing of Memphis Depay mean Angel Di Maria is heading for the exit door?

Manchester United to make THIRD attempt at signing £100m superstar

Manchester United could be set to break the world transfer record by making a £100 million move for Real Madrid star Gareth Bale this summer, according to the Telegraph.

Bale has twice been the subject of United approaches but Louis Van Gaal could finally bring the Welshman to Old Trafford this summer, if Real decide to sell.

United tried to sign the 25-year-old attacker from Southampton before he joined Tottenham in 2007, while they also attempted to beat Real Madrid to his signing in 2013 with a reported £100 million bid at the last minute.

The same amount could be offered to the Spanish giants this summer and United could do so without breaking Financial Fair Play rules as a result of their huge Adidas kit deal which will come into effect next season, while a return to the Champions League will also increase their financial muscle.

Bale has struggled to replicate the form he showed during his first season in Madrid and has come under pressure from supporters in recent months. He has family in the UK and is expected to return to the Premier League at some point, though he is keen to stay in Spain for at least another season.

United need six points from their final four games to ensure they qualify for next season’s Champions League and that could see Van Gaal go on a huge summer spending spree as he attempts to make the Red Devils a genuine title challenger in the top flight next year.

As well as targeting Bale, the Red Devils are expected to try and sign Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels, Southampton right-back Nathaniel Clyne and PSV Eindhoven winger Memphis Depay.

Bale won the PFA Player of the Year award in his final season with Spurs after scoring 21 goals in 33 league appearances before moving to Real Madrid for a world record £85 million in the summer of 2013, but has been linked with a return to England this summer, with Chelsea and Manchester City also interested.

Would Gareth Bale be the signing to help Manchester United challenge for the title next season? Should they pay £100 million for him?

United, City and Arsenal to battle for £20m German star – report

Manchester United, Manchester City and Arsenal are set for a three-way transfer battle for Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan this summer, according to the Daily Star.

The 24-year-old German has just one year remaining on his current Dortmund contract and is believed to be keen on a move to the Premier League, with three of the countries top sides interested in securing his services.

Gundogan is valued at £20 million, and City believe they can steal a march on their rivals by offering misfiring striker Edin Dzeko to Dortmund in a swap deal.

New Dortmund head coach Thomas Tuchel, who will take over from the outgoing Jurgen Klopp this summer, is an admirer of Dzeko’s and that could see Gundogan seal a move to City.

Arsenal are known to have had long-term interest in the German midfielder who has nine caps for his country, but could be beaten to his signature by one of the Manchester clubs.

United are closing in on a £21.5 million deal, according to Sky Sports, as the race for Gundogan looks set to heat up with the season drawing to a close.

He has struggled with injuries in the past few years but has made 27 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring three goals with four assists.

Klopp is being strongly linked with the Manchester City job and if the Dortmund coach is to move to the Etihad this summer, Gundogan will be expected to follow him.

Where will Ilkay Gundogan move this summer? Who needs him most – Manchester City, Manchester United or Arsenal?

‘Done deal’: Manchester United beat Chelsea to £15m star – report

Manchester United look to have beaten Chelsea to the signing of Southampton right-back Nathaniel Clyne, as Daily Mirror journalist David McDonnell has told MUTV that “its a done deal”.

Clyne has put in some impressive performances under Ronald Koeman this season but as was the case last summer, good displays lead to links away from the Saints, and Clyne is believed to be worth around £15 million as he has just one year left on his current deal.

United and Chelsea have been linked with moves for the England international but the Red Devils have won the race to sign the 24-year-old defender if McDonnell is to be believed.

The Mirror journalist told MUTV: “United want him, what I’m told is it’s a done deal.”

If the deal is completed, Clyne will follow former teammate Luke Shaw to Old Trafford and the English duo could link up on either side of the United defence as they did so successfully at Southampton last season.

Clyne, who can also play at left-back, has made 29 Premier League appearances this season and has scored twice.

Brazilian full-back Rafael is looking likely to leave United this summer as he has just one year remaining on his contract and Louis Van Gaal will want to cash in on the defender after an injury-hit campaign.

Nothing has been confirmed by either club but the signs are pointing towards Nathaniel Clyne wearing a Manchester United shirt next season.
