Liverpool legend reveals who City need after ‘pathetic’ title defence

It is no secret that Manchester City have not been good enough this season and will have to make some key changes over the summer to come back as a force again next season.

And Liverpool legend Jamie Redknapp has told Sky Sports that City need Paul Pogba after a ‘pathetic’ defence of their Premier League title.

“I expect Yaya Toure to leave Manchester City this summer – and they need to sign Paul Pogba to replace him,” Redknapp said.

“After winning two trophies last season, this has been a pathetic defence of their Premier League title from City and their ageing squad desperately needs refreshing.”

Many of Europe’s elite have been linked with Juventus ace Pogba, and his services will require a world record transfer fee, according to his agent. rate Pogba at £44 million, which is £42 million less than the current record transfer fee that saw Gareth Bale move to Real Madrid in 2013.

Redknapp highly regards Pogba and says it is no surprise that so many clubs are chasing his services.

“He’s a fantastic talent who can do everything. Players like him don’t come along very often and at 22 years old he has a huge future in front of him.”

If City are to sign Pogba it will be a real kick in the teeth to the Frenchman’s former club, Manchester United, to see him sign for their noisy neighbours.

The young midfield enforcer has been linked with Paris Saint Germain, Real Madrid, Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City so whoever wins the race for his signature will be a stronger force.

Is Paul Pogba what City need and is a move for him possible?

Inter Milan lining up £40m double swoop on City duo – report

Former Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini is looking to bring Stevan Jovetic and Yaya Toure to Inter Milan this summer and could look to spend £40 million to secure both players.

Jovetic joined City for £22 million after Mancini left the club in 2013 but has failed to impress over the past two seasons and his time is looking set to draw to a close.

Inter Milan are keen on bringing the former Fiorentina man back to Serie A and will look to secure a loan move with the option to buy for £15 million at the end of that spell, according to the Daily Mail.

The Montenegro international has made 17 Premier League appearances this season, scoring five times with three assists but is behind Sergio Aguero, Edin Dzeko and Wilfried Bony in the pecking order.

Star midfielder Yaya Toure, who is valued at £25 million by, could be following Jovetic out of City to join Inter at the end of the season after revealing he is ready for “new challenges”.

The 31-year-old Ivorian has been a mainstay in the City side since Mancini signed him from Barcelona in 2010, but he has not been anywhere near as good as he was last year and could be heading out the exit door.

After scoring 20 league goals on the way to a second title with City last season, Toure has only managed eight this year and his agent, Dimitri Seluk has admitted he has offers to move on.

“We have had different offers for Yaya but we must speak to Manchester City,” Seluk told Sky Sports News.

“People think he will stay because of money but we don’t care about money. If Man City don’t want him – no problem.”

How important are Stevan Jovetic and Yaya Toure to Manchester City? Will both leave the club this summer?

Inter Milan set sights on HUGE move for Manchester City trio

Inter Milan boss Roberto Mancini is preparing a raid on his former club for Manchester City trio Yaya Toure, James Milner and Samir Nasri, according to the Daily Mail.

Mancini is planning to reshape his Inter side by signing the three midfielders he brought to City during his spell at the Premier League club.

James Milner is out of contract in the summer and has attracted interest from a number of clubs after a solid season and could favour a reunion with his former coach in Italy.

Yaya Toure and Samir Nasri have not enjoyed the best of seasons and have failed to make their usual impact for the reigning champions.

Inter could hit a snag in their pursuit of Toure due to his high wages at a reported £200,000-a-week. Paris Saint-Germain are also interested in the Ivorian and a move to the mega rich French club could be a more likely destination, given their extra financial power.

A move for Samir Nasri is also a possibility for PSG but Mancini will hope his connections with the player can lure him to Inter.

City’s squad has come under fire due to their below-par performances since the turn of the year and there could be major changes at the club over the summer as they are looking to get back on track.

If Mancini is to land all three of his former stars it would go some way to rebuilding his Inter squad who have struggled this season and are sitting 9th in Serie A.

Should Manchester City allow Yaya Toure, James Milner and Samir Nasri leave the club this summer?

Manchester City plotting £100m Liverpool raid – report

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers will want the summer to be over before it has even arrived as Premier League rivals Manchester City are plotting an enormous £100 million raid for three Reds stars.

Raheem Sterling and Jordan Henderson have both been reported as City targets already, but Brazilian playmaker Philippe Coutinho is now also high up on the reigning champions’ transfer wishlist, according to the Daily Star.

Coutinho scored the goal to send Liverpool through to the FA Cup semi-finals in Wednesday night’s 1-0 win at Blackburn, and City feel they could sign him for £20 million this summer.

The Reds would want nearer £35 million for the 22-year-old midfielder, but wouldn’t want to sell to City at any price if it could be avoided.

Sterling is being linked with almost every big club in Europe as his contract dilemma continues to roll on but the Reds have slapped a £50 million price tag on his head if they are to allow him to leave Anfield.

City are looking to bring in English players to fill their homegrown quota this summer as they look set for a hectic transfer window.

Frank Lampard and James Milner are heading out the exit door, meaning at least two more homegrown players will be needed and City are keen on both Sterling and Henderson.

Henderson is expected to replace MLS-bound Steven Gerrard as Liverpool captain but with interest from Chelsea and City, he could be tough to keep for Rodgers.

The Reds will demand in excess of £30 million for the England midfield star who has just one year left on his current deal.

It is extremely unlikely that City will sign all three Liverpool players this summer, though they will likely prepare bids for them in the hope that they can bring at least one of them to the Etihad in time for the start of the next campaign.

Will Manchester City sign any of their Liverpool targets this summer? Who should be their priority?

City to raid Arsenal and Liverpool in £35m double swoop

Manchester City are interested in signing Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere and Liverpool’s Jordan Henderson, according to the Daily Mail, as they look to add a more English feel to their starting lineup from next season.

With Frank Lampard on his way to New York City FC and James Milner’s contract set to expire, City are chasing English replacements.

Wilshere could struggle to force his way back into the Arsenal set-up as Wenger’s current system is working well and his injury-hit career could see the Gunners cash in on 23-year-old midfielder.

Henderson has attracted interest from top Premier League clubs, Chelsea and City, and has only one year left on his Liverpool contract so a move away this summer could be real possibility, especially if the Reds fail to qualify for the Champions League.

With the pair rated around £42 million combined – Wilshere £22m and Henderson £20m, according to, they could be achievable signings for City.

The Manchester club has delved into Arsenal’s squad on many occasions, spending around £80m on Emmanuel Adebayor, Gael Clichy, Samir Nasri, Kolo Toure and Bacary Sagna in the past and clearly appeal to the Gunners’ stars as they appear to pay comparatively higher wages than the North London club.

This would be a more favourable financial move than rumoured signing of top European target, Paul Pogba. The Juventus star is attracting interest from Chelsea, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Manchester United to name a few but will cost more than Wilshere and Henderson combined.

Real Madrid plotting £70m swoop for Manchester City star

Real Madrid are plotting a €95 million (£70 million) offer to Manchester City for their key man, Sergio Aguero, according to Italian source Tuttomercatoweb.

Aguero has been in and out of the City side this season with injuries but has still managed to net an impressive 17 Premier League goals in 25 appearances.

The 26-year-old striker has previously claimed he wouldn’t be prepared to leave the club until he has won the Champions League with them but when the likes of Madrid come calling we have seen it is hard for the most dedicated players to remain put.

“Not only will I stay the four years to make it eight here in total, I’ll stay beyond that – until we win it,” Aguero said back in November, referring to his contract with City that is set to run until 2019.

Aguero put himself on the map playing in La Liga with Madrid’s bitter rivals, Atletico Madrid, which could make a move unlikely if the Argentine still has any connection to the club and its fans.

If a potential move goes ahead, Real will need to fund the deal by selling to keep in line with Financial Fair Play rules. This could spark up even more transfer news regarding the futures of Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale, who have both been linked with big-money moves away from the Spanish capital.

With it looking increasingly unlikely that City will not retain their Premier League title, manager Manuel Pellegrini has vowed the club need to sign at least one world-class player this transfer window, but keeping their best players will also be crucial.

Aguero would be part of one of the most impressive forward-lines in Europe if a potential deal to Real Madrid was to go ahead and would likely replace Karim Benzema as Los Blancos’ main man in attack.

Manchester City powerhouse linked with HUGE money move to Italy

Inter Milan boss Roberto Mancini is reportedly lining up a big money move for Manchester City‘s midfield powerhouse Yaya Toure and according to La Gazetta Dello Sport, Inter are willing to pay €60m (£43.5m) for the 31-year-old Ivorian.

Toure is yet to sign a new deal with Man City and it is looking increasingly more likely that he could move on this summer, with Mancini interested in acquiring the services of his former player once again.

Mancini has claimed that Inter will be dipping into the transfer market this summer in order to strengthen the squad.

“Some change will happen next year. We have a chance to take a top player because we are Inter, a top team and we have to fight for the title.”

Yaya Toure’s contract doesn’t expire until 2017, so he won’t come cheaply but Mancini wants a world-class star to help the Nerazzurri take a step towards regaining their European status and bringing success back to the club.

Toure played a pivotal role in helping Mancini bring success to Manchester City and still possesses the same qualities to do so if he were to join Inter.

Having made 22 appearances so far this campaign, Toure has been missed for City who are off the pace in the Premier League title race, but he has still netted seven goals and his current boss Manuel Pellegrini will not want to let the star go.

Former Manchester United man to help City seal Real Madrid star – report

Manchester City are preparing a £25 million move for Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric, according to the Daily Star, and former Manchester United man Paul Pogba looks like he is the key to any deal.

Real Madrid are likely to go on another summer spending spree at the end of the season and Juventus star Paul Pogba is at the top of their shopping list.

Sami Khedira’s contract with Madrid is up at the end of the season but Modric would also likely move on if Pogba were to join Los Blancos.

Manchester City are watching the situation closely as they are keen to secure the services of the former Spurs playmaker, who has only made 12 league appearances for Madrid this season as he struggled with a thigh injury for much of the season.

Modric returned to the side earlier this month but City would be willing to offer £25 million for the Croatian star – £5 million less than Madrid paid Spurs in the summer of 2012.

Manchester United and Chelsea are also linked with Modric but the Daily Star report claims City sporting director Txiki Begiristain wants Modric to form a midfield partnership with Arsenal‘s Jack Wilshere next season.

City are reportedly willing to give Manuel Pellegrini £200 million to spend this summer as the squad is likely to be revamped after what looks set to be a disappointing season without a trophy, with Chelsea looking increasingly likely to win the Premier League.

Stevan Jovetic, Edin Dzeko, Aleksandar Kolarov, Samir Nasri, Yaya Toure and James Milner could all leave the Etihad this summer and so new signings can be expected.

Liverpool star not ready for £50m City move claims Reds legend

Liverpool legend John Barnes has claimed that Raheem Sterling is not ready for a big money move away from Anfield and that the England star needs to hone his skills with the Reds by signing a new contract.

Sterling’s current deal is set to expire in June 2017 but Liverpool are keen to get the young superstar tied down to a new deal in the very near future.

That is proving difficult as Sterling has reportedly rejected a £100,000 per-week offer from Liverpool as he wants closer to £150,000 if he is to stay on Merseyside.

The 20-year-old attacker is currently on about £35,000 a week but wants to more than triple that deal to become one of the club’s top earners. Struggles over an agreement has led to speculation over his future and reports emerged last week that Manchester City would be willing to splash £50 million to sign the England international.

But Barnes thinks Sterling needs to sign a new deal with Liverpool and focus on improving his game in familiar surroundings, rather than becoming the next English star to flop at City.

“Raheem Sterling should absolutely sign the contract and stay at Liverpool,” the former Reds midfielder told talkSPORT.

“We’ve seen it with Scott Sinclair and Jack Rodwell at Manchester City. Where are they now?

“Sterling is not ready for a move to Barcelona, Real Madrid or Manchester City. He needs another two or three years at Liverpool. Then, if he decides he wants to move on, fine. He has to be very careful though.”

Barnes went on to suggest that Sterling is not the full package just yet and that staying at Liverpool would allow him to continue to grow as a player, while also adding that recent speculation could be affecting his form.

“I would advise any young player who has just been in the game for a year or so to stay and learn his trade. Show a level of consistency over a four or five year period before you make a big move. You will then be judged as a £50m player.

“He’s not been playing consistently well over a number of years and maybe his form has suffered because of all the speculation about his future.”
