Match Odds: Houston Dynamo 6/4 – Draw 12/5 – Seattle Sounders 17/10

Match Preview

Houston Dynamo entertain Seattle Sounders this weekend in the Western Conference in a tie which has huge implications in the race for a playoff spot.

Houston are all but out of finishing in the top six now and it has been a season that could have offered so much more. Dynamo fans need to remember that manager Owen Coyle said it would be a transitional season when he took over earlier this year and he will be hoping his philosophies will be engrained by the time the 2016 season starts.

They come into this one off the back of a 4-1 thumping away against FC Dallas, but they have been in solid home form of late.

This is Houston’s last home game of the regular season, they lost the reverse fixture 1-0 and will want to frustrate their opponents in this tie.

Seattle Sounders have a lot riding on this fixture. They sit 5th in the Western Conference on 47 points and cannot afford to drop any points in their remaining two fixtures to ensure they don’t miss out on a playoff spot.

They come into the game off the back of the 1-1 home draw with LA Galaxy. There is no reason for Sounders to panic, as their fate is in their own hands.

Seattle are unbeaten in their last three away games and will feel confident heading into this one but know they cannot afford to under perform.

MLS Preview and Prediction: Seattle Sounders vs Toronto FC

Competition: Major League Soccer – Seattle Sounders vs. Toronto FC

Venue: CenturyLink Field – Saturday, September 5 – 22:00 ET (03:00 BST)

Match Odds: Seattle Sounders 5/6  – Draw 13/5 – Toronto 16/5

Match Preview

Seattle Sounders welcome Toronto to CenturyLink Field on Saturday with both sides battling for playoff places.

Sounders are 6th on 38 points in the Western Conference and their recent shaky form has resulted in them only just sitting in a playoff spot.

Sigi Schmid’s side have won just three of their last 12 regular season games but come into this one off the back of a 2-1 home win over Portland Timbers.

With San Jose Earthquakes and Houston Dynamo applying the pressure on Sounders, Schmid is more than aware his side cannot afford anymore sloppy performances and this is a game they have to take points from.

Toronto have been in solid form, winning their last two on the bounce and have registered three wins in their last five outings.

Greg Vanney’s side have struggled to find form on the road and haven’t won in their last five attempts away from home.

Toronto are sitting 4th in the Eastern Conference on 37 points and aren’t out of the running to contest for the Supporters’ Shield, but their main aim will be to finish the season with a good run of form and head into the playoffs full of confidence.

They come into the game off the back of a 2-1 home win against Montreal Impact and will feel they have a chance of upsetting Sounders but know this will be a tough task.

Team News

Seattle have six injury concerns heading into this tie. Andreas Correa, Andy Craven and Damion Lowe are all out, while Leonardo Gonzalez, Clint Dempsey and Andreas Ivanschitz are all doubts. Osvaldo Alonso and Andy Rose are both one caution away from suspension. While Roman Torres, Marco Pappa and Victor Mansaray are away on international duty

Toronto also have six injury concerns for this one. Mark Bloom remains out, but their main concern will be whether or not key man Sebastian Giovinco will feature as he is a doubt. Benoit Cheyrou, Jackson, Damien Perquis and Nick Hagglund are also all doubts. Jozy Altidore is away on international duty with the USMNT, while Colleen Warner is suspended.

Key Points

Seattle Sounders’ last five in MLS: L/L/W/L/W

Venue: Providence Park – Friday, August 21 – 23:00 ET (Saturday, August 22 – 04:30 BST)

Match Odds: Portland Timbers 4/6 – Draw 11/4 – Houston Dynamo 4/1

Match Preview

Portland Timbers take on Western Conference opponents Houston Dynamo on Friday night as they look to continue to keep pace in the top four.

Caleb Porter‘s side come into this one off the back of two consecutive wins, their last, a 1-0 away victory over Real Salt Lake.

The Timbers are sitting fourth in the Western Conference, four points behind leaders LA Galaxy, but Porter’s side have a game in hand and know they cannot afford to drop unnecessary points.

Timbers look to be back on track with their last two wins coming off the back of a four game winless run.

Houston Dynamo have been in inconsistent form and as a result sit outside the playoff places in eighth.

Owen Coyle‘s side come into the game after last weekends 2-0 defeat away at New England Revolution.

They sit four points outside the playoff places, so have more than a reasonable chance of pushing themselves up the table, but they need to find a run of form.

Dynamo have four wins in their last ten Regular Season games including that impressive 3-0 victory over LA Galaxy, if they can perform like they did in that one, they have a great chance here.

Team News

Portland have just the one injury concern coming into this one with Ben Zemanski still out. Both Liam Ridgewell and Alvas Powell are one caution away from suspension, so will need to be cautious not to pick up any silly bookings.

Houston Dynamo could be without three players. Jermaine Taylor looks set to miss out while there are doubts about Ricardo Clark and Rob Lovejoy. Kofi Sarkodie, Raul Rodriguez and Sheanon Williams are all one booking away from suspension.

Key Points

Portland Timbers’ last five in MLS: D/L/D/W/W

MLS Preview and Prediction: Philadelphia Union vs Seattle Sounders

Competition: Major League Soccer – Philadelphia Union vs. Seattle Sounders

Venue: PPL Park – Wednesday, June 24 – 19:00 ET (00:00 BST)

Match Odds: Philadelphia Union 13/10 – Draw 12/5 – Seattle Sounders 2/1

Match Preview

Philadelphia Union play host to Western Conference leaders Seattle Sounders in the first of seven midweek fixtures on Wednesday night in a game that sees a repeat of last year’s US Open Cup final.

Arguably the worst side in MLS, Philadelphia have the worst points-per-game ratio in the league and are the only team to average below a point a game with 0.88 per match so far.

And having lost three out of their last four, Philadelphia need a win, and soon. If there was a good time to play Seattle, this would be it as the Sounders will be without Clint Dempsey and Obafemi Martins for the trip to PPL Park on Wednesday.

The Union lost 5-1 at LA Galaxy last time out and need to try and bounce back from that heavy defeat here against last season’s MLS Supporters’ Shield winners.

Philadelphia Union’s record: P17 W4 D3 L10

As mentioned before, Martins and Dempsey will be missing from the Sounders’ starting lineup and with Chad Barrett also out, the Sounders are struggling with attacking options.

Incidentally, it was all three of those strikers who struck in last year’s Open Cup final win against the Union as the Sounders lifted the trophy at PPL Park.

Sigi Schmid will likely field Lamar Neagle as the lone striker once again as he did in Saturday’s disappointing home loss to the San Jose Earthquakes.

Despite losing to the Quakes for the second time this year, they remain top of an extremely strong Western Conference, for the time being, and know they need to return home with three points from Wednesday’s clash in Philly.

Seattle Sounders’ 2015 MLS record: P16 – W9 – D2 – L5

Losing two of their last three represents a dip in form but Seattle will see this trip to Philadelphia as the perfect chance to grab three points and they should do so.

The Sounders have won three of the last four meetings between the sides, including last season’s Open Cup final after extra-time, and will be the more confident of the two sides as a result.

Team News

Philadelphia Union could be without three of their strikeforce as Fernando Aristeguieta, Conor Casey and Sebastien Le Toux are all doubts. CJ Sapong may start as the lone striker once again.

Seattle Sounders are missing Obafemi Martins, Osvaldo Alonso and Chad Barrett through injury, while Gonzalo Pineda is a doubt. Clint Dempsey is still serving a three-game suspension so Lamar Neagle is expected to start up front again.

Key Points

Philadelphia Union’s last five: W/L/W/L/L

Seattle Sounders’ last five: W/W/L/W/L

Key Stat: Philadelphia have only kept one clean sheet against the Sounders in MLS regular season matches – a 2-0 win in 2011.

Key Player: Lamar Neagle – The dynamic utility man will have a hard time filling in for Martins and Dempsey but he will hold the key to the final result in this one.

Score Prediction

Philadelphia Union 1-2 Seattle Sounders – Seattle are without their star frontmen in Clint Dempsey and Obafemi Martins but they should still have enough to dispatch the Union by the odd goal.

MLS Preview and Prediction: Orlando City vs DC United

Competition: Major League Soccer – Orlando City vs DC United

Venue: Citrus Bowl – Friday, April 3 – 19:00 ET (00:00 BST – Saturday, April 4)

Match Odds: Orlando City 5/4 – Draw 23/10 – DC United 11/5

Match Preview

Orlando City host DC United on Friday night in their third MLS home game of the season in what they will be hoping will be their first win at the Citrus Bowl.

Orlando have definitely made their mark on MLS so far this season and most notably their star signing Kaka has stolen all of the headlines.

With only one point separating the two sides, this is a chance for Orlando to set the tone for their season as Brek Shea and Rafael Ramos return to the side after being away on international duty.

With Kaka being a doubt, there is a chance he may not play and it will be interesting to see if Adrian Heath’s side can cope without their talisman.

Orlando City’s record in MLS 2015: P4 – W1 – D2 – L1

DC United have had an indifferent start to 2015 having managed to win both home games and lose the one away game.

It seems that this DC side is suffering with the suspension of Fabian Espindola who was instrumental in their 2014 campaign that saw them win the Eastern Conference.

They are seemingly lacking a creative spark in the final third but are still managing to grind out results. And with only a few weeks left on the Espindola ban, you can’t help but feel that DC will be a force once again this season.

DC United’s record in MLS 2015: P3 – W2 – D0 – L1

Team News

Orlando City’s Tally Hall and Martin Paterson remain sidelined. Christian Higuita, Carlos Rivas, Lewis Neal, Tony Cascio and Kaka are all doubts for this one but are expected to be pushing to start if they can. Brek Shea and Rafeal Ramos are expected to start after returning from international duty.

DC United’s Fabian Espindola is still serving his six-game ban. Eddie Johnson and Markus Halsti remain out, while Steve Birnbaum suffered a sprained ankle against LA Galaxy and will miss the next 4-6 weeks, so Kofi Opare is expected to come in. Luis Silva remains doubtful, while Chris Pontius and Jairo Arrieta are set to continue up front.

Key Points

Orlando City’s form: D/W/L/D

DC United’s form: W/L/W

Key Stat: Orlando City are yet to win at home in MLS.

Key Player: Kevin Molino – The midfielder is back from international duty with Trinidad and Tobago and should be as threatening as ever. His pace could prove the difference in this clash.

Score Prediction

Orlando City 1–1 DC United – DC United haven’t won on the road this season, while Orlando are yet to win at home, so everything is pointing towards a draw, although we can expect a couple of goals.
