Match Preview

New York Red Bulls welcome Eastern Conference rivals New England Revolution to Red Bull Arena on Sunday afternoon.

Jesse Marsch’s side have been in strong form and are unbeaten in their last eight regular season games, they will be feeling confident of extending that run here.

Red Bulls come into this one off the back of their disappointing 2-2 draw away at DC. Although the game was disrupted early on due to the weather, NYRB had gone on to lead 2-0, but threw three points away to a DC side who showed great spirit to turn things around.

New York are six points off top spot in the East and will be looking to finish the season in the highest position possible. They have eight regular season games remaining and if they carry on this unbeaten run they have a great chance of topping the East.

New England Revolution are having a season to forget, but they still have plenty of games ahead of them to push their way above the red line. They’re currently sitting 8th, two points behind the top six.

Jay Heaps will be eager for his side to end their five game winless run here but will know how tough this tie is going to be.

The Revs drew their last outing 0-0 away at San Jose, that result ended a four game losing streak. They now need to build upon that and take a positive result in this one.

New England haven’t won in their last six attempts on the road and face a Red Bulls side who are proving to be tough to beat at home.

MLS Preview and Prediction: New England Revolution vs Portland Timbers

Competition: Major League Soccer – New England Revolution vs. Portland Timbers

Stadium: Gillette Stadium – Wednesday, April 27 – 19:30 ET (00:30 GMT)

Match Odds: New England 21/20 – Draw 5/2 – Portland 5/2

Match Preview

New England Revolution welcome Portland Timbers to Gillette Stadium on Wednesday night as both sides kick off the first of their double game week.

New England sit 7th in the Eastern Conference and come into this one off the back of their 3-0 away defeat against DC United.

Jay Heaps will be concerned about his sides recent form, as they have now failed to win in three games, they are going to have to turn that form around in order to work their way back up the East. It is far from devastating news for the Revs as they have drawn two of those three outings.

The Revs are unbeaten at home this season, winning one and drawing the other two and they have only conceded once at Gillette Stadium in 2016. New England face Orlando on Saturday so they’ll be looking to get off to a good start in their double game week here.

Portland Timbers find themselves in lowly 8th in the Western Conference, a far from pleasing position for the Timbers fans.

Caleb Porter’s side have come up short so far this season and look a shadow of the side who won the MLS Cup last season, they’re going to have to improve on their performances if they are to force their way up the table.

All is not bad for Portland, who come into this one off the back of a great 3-1 home win against San Jose Earthquakes, their first win since their opening game of the season.

The Timbers are yet to win away from home this season and they’ll be hoping this will be the game to end an unbeaten run away from home against New England dating back to 2011. Portland face Toronto in the second outing of their double game week, so they need to make sure they come out of these two games with a respectable amount of points.

Two of the most in form sides in MLS go head-to-head on Wednesday night as New England Revolution host Eastern Conference leaders New York Red Bulls.

New England trail NYRB by two points heading into the game and they have played two more than the leaders. This is a tie they need to take all three points in if they are to have a chance of finishing at the top of the Eastern Conference.

The Revs come into the tie off the back of five straight wins, their latest was the 3-1 away victory over Toronto FC. They are unbeaten in their last seven, winning six, so confidence is high.

New England won the first meeting of the season between the sides at Gillette Stadium 2-1 and will be hoping they can repeat that result.

New York Red Bulls are also on a good run of form, they have won nine of their last 12 and lost just twice. They are leading the Eastern Conference on goal difference, but have played three games less than DC United so are in a strong position.

Red Bulls come into the tie off the back of their 3-2 home win against Chicago Fire, where they came from two goals behind to win.

They won the last meeting between the sides in July, 4-1, but will be aware this tie will be difficult to take all three points from, even more so considering their poor record away against the Revs.

They can give themselves an even stronger chance of finishing at the top of the pile if they can avoid defeat here.

FC Dallas host New England Revolution on Saturday night as they look to pick themselves up after their midweek trouncing at the hands of Sporting Kansas City.

Dallas were thumped 6-2 by SKC in the US Open Cup – a result they will want to quickly forget and have a great chance of doing so against a below-par New England Revolution side.

Oscar Pareja’s team won their last regular season game 2-0 against Houston Dynamo. They are sitting in sixth place in the Western Conference.

Fabian Castillo has been in good form and the Dallas faithful will be hoping he can push the side to another home victory. Dallas have lost just once at Toyota Stadium so far this campaign and it is becoming a fortress.

New England Revolution are sitting sitting second in the Eastern Conference despite their poor run of form but they must turn things around.

The Revs have lost their last three games on the bounce and have just one win in their last ten Major League Soccer outings.

They come into this one off the back of their 2-1 defeat to Vancouver Whitecaps which saw Andrew Farrell dismissed.

Jay Heaps will be disappointed that his side have lost their last three games by the same scoreline, 2-1, and the chasing pack are edging closer to the Revs, who are ahead of three sides by just one point.

New England are now eleven points behind leaders DC United and closing that gap already looks like an impossible task.
