Feature: Chelsea dominating transfer headlines but are they panic buying?

Chelsea‘s below-par start to the new Premier League season has resulted in transfer news and rumours flying around about a number of players.

The Blues have today signed FC Barcelona’s Pedro Rodriguez after Jose Mourinho swooped in and stole an almost done-deal from rivals Manchester United.

The 28-year-old winger made it clear he wanted to leave the Catalan giants this summer after a lack of playing time and although terms had initially been agreed between United and Barca, it is Chelsea who have landed the experienced Spanish winger.

With Eden Hazard, Willian and Juan Cuadrado all having featured already this campaign, you have to ask whether there is room for Pedro and whether one of these three will be on their way out of the club in the next two weeks.

Foot Mercato have reported that Willian has been offered to either Paris Saint Germain or Bayern Munich, which would be a surprise given he appears to be one of the first names on the team-sheet for Mourinho.

The John Stones saga also continues. Chelsea have reportedly had a third bid of £30 million rejected for the 21-year-old Everton defender, with a fee of nearer £40 million rumoured to be required.

It remains to be seen whether Chelsea will make a final offer to tempt the Englishman away from the Toffees but Mourinho wants the player and he will do what he can to get his own way with a short time left to go in the transfer window.

With John Terry’s position in the side uncertain ahead of the weekend clash with West Brom this will be a story with more to come. Whether or not Chelsea need the youngster is another question, with Terry, Gary Cahill, Kurt Zouma and Branislav Ivanovic all options for Mourinho at centre-back.

Ivanovic could find himself out of the squad for this weekend’s upcoming game, with new signing Baba Rahman tipped to start at left-back, pushing Cesar Azpilicueta back to his more natural right-back slot.

The odds have been slashed for Paul Pogba to join Chelsea before the window closes. This could be a clever manoeuvre from the bookies, given Chelsea’s late movements in the window leading people to believe they are willing to pay big money for players that will help them defend their Premier League title.

Juventus are reportedly holding out for at least £70 million for their highly sought after talent and having already lost many star players this summer, a move away for Pogba looks unlikely.

With a whole host of attacking midfield options at Chelsea already, Pogba would no doubt have to dislodge another player from a starting position. With Oscar occupying the number ten role he could more than likely be the player axed if Pogba was to join, with Juve linked with the Brazilian throughout the window.

Talk of Cuadrado going to Juventus is also ongoing but the rumours are that he would be going on loan to the Old Lady and would not be included as part of a potential Pogba deal.

It is going to be a very interesting and busy end to the transfer window for Chelsea if we are to believe the rumours and Mourinho’s side could be the ones to watch very closely as they look to make up for their worst start to a season since 1998 with some late transfer excitement.

Chelsea, City and United handed HUGE boost in race for £58m-rated superstar

Premier League trio ChelseaManchester City and Manchester United have been handed a huge boost in their pursuit of Juventus superstar Paul Pogba as the Italian club are looking to rebuild this summer, according to the Daily Mail.

The 22-year-old midfielder has been on the radar of some of European football’s giants after yet another impressive season and Chelsea, Manchester City, Manchester United, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Paris Saint Germain are said to be chasing his services.

It is reported that PSG made the Frenchman an astonishing £210,000-a-week offer, but Pogba’s representatives are looking for more as interest in the Frenchman is so high.

His services are going to set back any potential outfit around £58 million and with Financial Fair Play regulations, clubs will need to be selling at least one top player in order to fund any possible move.

There has been previous talk of player-plus-cash deals, especially surrounding Chelsea with regards to Oscar heading to Juventus. But Jose Mourinho hasn’t given any indications that he plans to allow the Brazilian playmaker to depart and Oscar has claimed he is settled.

With Yaya Toure’s departure from Manchester City looking imminent that seems a more likely destination than Chelsea, but City will need to be working hard to meet the regulations of FFP.

The excitement around this deal is continually on the rise and it could be a summer-long saga for a club to secure his services in such a huge move, not too dissimilar to Gareth Bale’s move in 2013, as Pogba looks to be the number one target for club’s across Europe.

Will Paul Pogba leave Juventus this summer?

Manchester United plotting HUGE £72m offer for midfield powerhouse

Manchester United have stepped up their efforts to attempt to secure Paul Pogba this summer by readying an offer of £54 million as well as £18 million-rated Robin van Persie to Juventus, according to the Express.

Pogba is attracting interest from clubs all over Europe, including the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain, and Tuttomercatoweb claims that Juve are willing to cash in on the French star this summer.

United let one of the most sought after midfielders in Europe leave the club on a free in 2012 and now look set to break their transfer record to resign the 22-year-old powerhouse.

Pogba’s agent has claimed it will take a world-record fee to sign Pogba, a record that is currently held by Gareth Bale’s £86 million transfer to Real Madrid, so United will need to prepare another £15 million on top of their reported offer just to meet that statement.

The French international is currently sidelined for seven weeks so looks set to miss the remainder of Juventus’s run-in and if a summer move goes ahead he could have played his last game for the club.

If Pogba is to return to United it will potentially be one of the biggest transfers of all-time and his contribution to the side would go some way to helping Louis Van Gaal continue to rebuild the club.

Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly the only side that have put a concrete offer on the table but United look set to come in with an offer valuing £72 million in total, and will be confident they can get their man at that price.

Should Paul Pogba be Manchester United’s transfer priority this summer?

Chelsea and Juventus could be set for HUGE £80m swap deal

Italian giants Juventus are reportedly interested in signing Chelsea playmaker and Brazilian superstar, Oscar in a deal that could see Paul Pogba head to England in what would be one of the biggest swap deals in football history. According to the Daily Mirror, the Serie A sides’ desire to sign Oscar could give Chelsea the chance to sign Pogba ahead of a host of European giants. Juventus are looking to instigate a £20m deal to secure the services of the Chelsea playmaker, who has endured an impressive but difficult season under Jose Mourinho, as he has been in and out of the side. Embed from Getty Images The Old Lady could provide Oscar with a guaranteed first-team place, and Chelsea could have the opportunity to sign Pogba if a potential deal goes ahead. Juventus have claimed it would need to be a world record deal to secure the Frenchman and a fee of at least £60 million would be required. Jose Mourinho has been coy on his transfer ideas for this summer but he will want to strengthen his squad in order to reduce poor performances which could have been avoided so far this season as the Blues look to dominate English football. If any potential agreement between the clubs is to be made it will have to be a player-plus-cash deal on Chelsea’s behalf, though Mourinho has highlighted the importance of meeting the guidelines of FIFA’s Financial Fair Play on several occasions and that could affect any move. Embed from Getty Images Oscar has featured 24 times in the Premier League so far this season, scoring six times and creating seven goals. By comparison, Paul Pogba has made 22 Serie A appearances, scoring seven with two assists. Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester City, Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain have all been linked with moves for Pogba and he looks set to be the most in-demand player in Europe this summer. Would a swap deal between Chelsea and Juventus for Oscar and Paul Pogba make sense?
