Premier League Preview and Prediction: Everton vs Manchester City

Competition: Premier League – Everton vs. Manchester City

Venue: Goodison Park – Sunday, January 15 – 13:30 GMT (08:30 ET)

Match Odds: Everton 16/5 – Draw 14/5 – Man City 4/5

Match Preview

Everton play host to Manchester City on Sunday with The Toffees looking to extend their Premier League unbeaten run to four games.

This is going to be a test for Ronald Koeman’s men, they face a Manchester City side who will be desperate for a win, but they will know they have the ability to upset anyone at Goodison.

Everton are on a three-game unbeaten Premier League run. That recent run of form looks to have them back on track in the league after a difficult spell. They did however exit the FA Cup last weekend in a disappointing home loss, so a response is needed.

This is Everton’s second league home game in a row, they demolished Southampton 3-0 last time out and they have a great chance of a positive result if they put in an impressive display like that again.

Manchester City have won three of their last five away games. Their last league game was a 2-1 home win against Burnley, an unconvincing performance intensified the pressure on Pep Guardiola.

While Pep is not one to panic, he is in new territory in his managerial career and needs to find a way to silence his doubters. A win here at a ground renowned for being difficult for the top sides to take points from would be a step in the right direction.

City have won five of their last six games in all competitions, including progressing in the FA Cup with a ruthless 5-0 win away against West Ham. The squad should be fresh as their last game will have been nine days previous by kick off on Sunday.

Guardiola’s side have work to do to close the gap at the top of the league. A loss here could potentially see them drop out of the top four and then the alarm bells would certainly be ringing amongst the fans. They need a big performance.

Team News

Everton’s squad is littered with injuries, they could be without as many as eight players for this tie. Yannick Bolasie, Dominic Clavert-Lewin and Muhamed Besic are all out, while Maarten Stekelenburg, James McCarthy, Bryan Oviedo and Matthew Pennington are all doubts. Idrissa Gueye is on international duty at the African Cup of Nations.

Vincent Kompany and Ilkay Gundogan remain long-term absentees for Manchester City, while Leroy Sane is a doubt. Fernandinho is also unavailable for selection as he remains suspended.

Key Points

Everton’s last five: W/L/W/D/W

Manchester City’s last five: W/W//W/L/W

Key Stat: Everton are unbeaten in 12 of their last 13 Premier League games at Goodison Park.

Key Player: Sergio Aguero – The Argentine made the difference in City’s last Premier League game. A lot is going to be expected from him over the second half of the season given his side trail top spot by seven points. He can remind everyone that City are well in the title race by contributing to an impressive away victory here.

Score Prediction

Everton 2-2 Manchester City – An action packed draw. Everton have caused plenty of the big sides trouble at Goodison down the years and City could fall victim to that fate once again here. City’s defensive issues have been well documented, it would be a surprise if they keep a clean sheet this weekend, given Everton’s free-flowing attacking play.

Premier League Preview and Prediction: Manchester City vs Chelsea

Competition: Premier League – Manchester City vs. Chelsea

Venue: Etihad Stadium – Saturday, December 3 – 12:30 GMT (07:30 ET)

Match Odds: Manchester City 11/10 – Draw 5/2 – Chelsea 12/5

Match Preview

Manchester City welcome Chelsea to the Etihad Stadium on Saturday lunchtime in a mouthwatering fixture in the race for the Premier League title.

Pep Guardiola’s side trail league leaders Chelsea by just one point ahead of this tie and just three points separate the top four. This is a crunch game for City, who need to make sure they win and put an end to Chelsea’s winning run.

City come into the game having come from behind to beat Burnley in a scrappy game that showed their resilience to win, something they’ll need to show once again here.

While many are saying it is too early for results to impact the race for the title, a loss for City here could be disastrous for the squad mentally. Guardiola has experience coaching against Chelsea and will know his side are up against a team that never know when they’re beat.

Chelsea are the inform team in the Premier League. They have won seven in row, conceding just once and scoring 19.

Antonio Conte is pleased with his side, especially the spirit they showed to come from behind to beat Spurs last weekend. Many have questioned whether or not going behind would upset the balance for Chelsea in their unbeaten run, but they proved they are capable of turning a game in their favour.

Chelsea have struggled at the Etihad, they have won just once in their last eight visits in all competitions and, like practically every Premier League club, have constantly been on the receiving end of a Sergio Aguero masterclass.

This a game Chelsea have to avoid defeat in. It will put them in a really good position for their upcoming December fixtures, while no league game is easy, they have some favourable games over the Christmas period and could capitalise on that to give themselves some cushioning at the top.

Team News

Vincent Kompany remains out for Manchester City, while there are concerns about Fabian Delph and Raheem Sterling, who are both doubts.

Chelsea are expected to remain unchanged for the eighth game in a row. John Terry will be out, while Kurt Zouma and Marco van Ginkel are not yet ready to be considered for selection. Diego Costa is one yellow card away from a one-game ban, it wouldn’t be a surprise if he picks that up here given the intensity of this tie.

Key Points

Manchester City’s form: D/W/D/W/W

Chelsea’s form: W/W/W/W/W

Key Stat: Chelsea have conceded just once in their seven-game winning streak.

Key Player: Thibaut Courtois – This is easily the biggest challenge of the season for the Chelsea backline. They have been performing very well but face a completely different opponent with the way City will press them on the ball. Courtois will have to be at his best to ensure his side can come away with a win.

Score Prediction

Manchester City 2-0 Chelsea – Manchester City are going to give Chelsea a different style of game that no other side has done this season. Their pressing and ball retention will make this a difficult afternoon for Conte’s men. Historically, it is not a happy hunting ground for Chelsea and Aguero & co will make it another to forget for The Blues.

Premier League Preview and Prediction: Manchester City vs Southampton

Competition: Premier League – Manchester City FC vs. Southampton FC

Venue: Etihad Stadium – Sunday, October 23 – 13:30 BST (08:30 ET)

Match Odds: Man City 1/2 – Draw 100/30 – Southampton 5/1

Match Preview

Manchester City welcome Southampton to the Etihad on Sunday afternoon, with both sides desperate for a win after disappointing results in Europe during the week.

Pep Guardiola watched his City team get thumped 4-0 at Barcelona on Wednesday, with Claudio Bravo’s sending off doing little to help his team’s chances at the Nou Camp.

That defeat means City have failed to win any of their last four games in all competitions. They missed two penalties in last week’s home draw with Everton and need to turn their fortunes around to avoid falling off the top of the table.

The visit of Southampton presents a tough test for City but they have a squad strong enough to beat anyone on their day, and so an emphatic response is needed after the result in Barca.

The Saints lost 1-0 at Inter Milan in the Europa League on Thursday but do come into this game in very strong domestic form, having won three of their last four in the Premier League.

Claude Puel is starting to get his ideas across to the players and they have managed to only concede one goal in their last four league outings.

After losing their first two away games of the season, Southampton have now kept back-to-back clean sheets on the road but are facing a tough task in trying to shutout a City attack that has scored the joint-most goals in the top flight after eight games.

Southampton won the most recent meeting between these sides 4-2 back in May, with Kelechi Iheanacho’s brace outdone by Sadio Mane’s hat-trick for the Saints.

More goals could be on the cards here, with both sides looking for points in what should be an entertaining contest.

Team News

Pep Guardiola may be without both of his right-backs for the visit of Southampton on Sunday. Bacary Sagna is definitely out, while Zabaleta is a doubt. If they are both absent, he could change to a three-man defensive setup, as he did in last week’s draw with Everton. Yaya Toure is still suspended by the club and won’t feature, while Fabian Delph is not yet fit enough to start.

Southampton are looking a little light in attack ahead of Sunday’s game after Shane Long picked up an injury in the 1-0 loss at Inter Milan on Thursday. Nathan Redmond is a doubt, along with Ryan Bertrand and Matt Targett, while Cedric Soares, Jeremy Pied and Florin Gardos are all definitely sidelined. Exciting winger Sofiane Boufal is expected to make his full debut.

Key Points

Manchester City’s last five: W/W/W/L/D

Southampton’s last five: L/W/W/D/W

Key Stat: Since the turn of the year, Southampton (51) have collected two more points than Manchester City have in the Premier League (49).

Key Player: Sergio Aguero – It’s no secret that when Aguero is on form, Manchester City are far more lethal side. The Argentine striker started Wednesday’s game at Barcelona on the bench but should be raring to go from the off here.

Score Prediction

Manchester City 2-1 Southampton – This is another tough game for City to deal with, especially off the back of Wednesday’s result. They are stronger than the Saints on paper and Guardiola will be trying to make sure everyone performs to their highest levels to get back on the right side of the scoreline here. The Saints will fancy their chances but ultimately City need to be winning games like this if they are going to lift the title in May.

Premier League Preview and Prediction: Manchester City vs West Ham United

Competition: Premier League – Manchester City vs. West Ham United

Venue: Etihad Stadium – Sunday, August 28 – 16:00 BST (11:00 ET)

Match Odds: Man City 2/7 – Draw 9/2 – West Ham 9/1

Match Preview

Manchester City welcome West Ham United to the Etihad on Sunday afternoon in what they will be hoping is a relatively straightforward tie.

City are top of the league on goals scored and we can expect them to be a fierce competitor for the Premier League title this season.

They come into this one off the back of their 4-1 thumping of Stoke last weekend, an impressive performance that had the real look of a Pep Guardiola side.

City will be keen to continue racking up the goals here in order to remain the early pace setters in the league this season. Home form is something Guardiola sides are renowned for, he will be expecting a tough tie but nothing less than three points from this game.

West Ham United bounced back from their opening day defeat to pick up a late win over Bournemouth in their first league game at the London Stadium last time out.

Slaven Bilic’s squad is stretched by injuries and fitness concerns to his key players even this early on in the season, he will be hoping to make a couple of extra signings before the window closes.

The Hammers have struggled away against Manchester City but did win in this fixture last season, they will be looking to frustrate their opponents in this tie but will be expecting to see little of the ball.

West Ham will be hoping to bounce back from being knocked out of Europe on Thursday with a positive result here, but the fans will be bracing themselves for a disappointing week as they take on arguably the strongest squad in the league.

Team News

Manchester City could be without up to five through injury as Vincent Kompany, Ilkay Gündogan, Leroy Sané are all out, while Bacary Sagna and Kelechi Iheanacho are both doubts. New signing Claudio Bravo isn’t expected to make his debut this week so we can expect Willy Caballero to return to the starting XI following what appeared to be Joe Hart’s farewell in the Champions League in midweek.

West Ham have eight injury concerns heading into this tie as Aaron Cresswell, Diafra Sakho, André Ayew and Andy Carroll are all expected to be out, while Dimitri Payet, Manuel Lanzini, Sofiane Feghouli and Håvard Nordtveit are all doubts.

Key Points

Manchester City’s form: W/W

West Ham United’s form: L/W

Key Stat: Manchester City have lost only one of their last ten Premier League games against West Ham at home, winning eight and drawing one.

Key Player: Sergio Aguero – The City goal machine has scored 37 goals in 47 Premier League games against London teams. He has an eye for goal against West Ham with six in eight league appearances.

Embed from Getty Images

Score Prediction

Manchester City 3-1 West Ham United – Manchester City should be taking all three points in the majority of their home games this season if we are to believe that Guardiola is the real deal and this game is no exception. West Ham United have a squad that is being stretched through injuries and fitness issues but will still be able to cause City problems here, just not enough to win the game.

Premier League Preview and Prediction: Manchester City vs Sunderland

Competition: Premier League – Manchester City vs. Sunderland

Venue: Etihad Stadium – Saturday, August 13 – 17:30 BST (12:30 ET)

Match Odds: Man City 1/4 – Draw 19/4 – Sunderland 11/1

Match Preview

Manchester City kick off their 2016/17 Premier League campaign and new era under manager Pep Guardiola at home against Sunderland on Saturday evening.

It’s certainly an exciting time to be a City fan and they will be expecting their side to get off to a winning start here. Fans will be demanding much more than last seasons finish of 4th, they scraped into a Champions League playoff place and given Guardiola’s winning mentality, that would be a complete failure this time around.

Guardiola has made some big money signings throughout the summer transfer window and he will be expecting the new additions, along with the quality in the current squad, to make a strong challenge to win the Premier League.

Manchester City have a strong home record against Sunderland. They have won 11 of the last 13 meetings between the sides in all competitions. And if previous results are anything to go by we could be in for a goal-fest here, as City have scored at least three goals against Sunderland in seven of their last eight home meetings.

Embed from Getty Images

Sunderland will be looking to avoid another relegation battle this season and the club have replaced Sam Allardyce with David Moyes. It is a good appointment for the club, as despite his struggles at Manchester United, Moyes has a wealth of Premier League experience.

The Black Cats stayed up by two points at the end of last season, thanks to the guidance of Allardyce, and it is now time for them to try and push to the next level. A mid-table finish will be an achievable target if Sunderland can iron out their defensive issues that nearly cost them last season.

Moyes has just started to make some summer signings, while some long-term servants have departed the club. There is quality in the Sunderland side, but they have to build a team around a core of players to prove tougher opposition this season.

Sunderland couldn’t have had it much more difficult in their opening game. The buzz around City will be a huge task for them to deal with, but if they can take anything away from their opening weekend fixture confidence will be sky-high. This will be an interesting tie to watch.

Team News

Manchester City have added the likes of Ilkay Gundogan (£21m), Nolito (£13.8m), Leroy Sane (£37m) and most recently John Stones (£47.5m) to their squad. Guardiola already has some selection headaches as Gundogan, Sane and captain Vincent Kompany are unlikely to feature until September through injuries. Stones has a huge task ahead of him to step up to the mark and fill in for Kompany in the heart of the City defence. We can expect Guardiola to setup with a 4-2-3-1 formation, with Sergio Aguero leading the line. Nolito could make his debut out on the left flank, while David Silva is likley to start in the number ten role. Kevin De Bruyne will more than likely start on the right. So far City have only seen two players depart, goalkeeper Richard Wright and Martin Demichelis are their completed outs.

Sunderland have released Wes Brown, Steve Harper and Danny Graham ahead of this season. Their completed ins are former United players Donald Love and Paddy McNair. David Moyes must utilise Jermaine Defoe and build a team to feed their frontman. He netted 15 goals in 33 appearances last season and if they can supply him he will be able to cause opposition defenders headaches like he has done his whole career. There are some concerns about Defoe’s fitness as well as Sebastian Larsson, Jan Kirchhoff and Billy Jones, all four players will be racing to get fit for their opener.

Key Points

Manchester City’s last five: N/A

Sunderland’s last five: N/A

Key Stat: Guardiola saw his Bayern side lose just twice last season, once at home and once away, and they won 15 of their 17 home games. If that is anything to go by we could expect City to become a formidable force at home this season.

Key Player: Sergio Aguero – The obvious choice but Aguero is so integral to City. If Guardiola can get his squad playing his style, Aguero will score for fun. The Argentine goal-machine is so deadly and he will be relishing the battle to win the golden boot this season and fire City to silverware.

Score Prediction

Manchester City 3-0 Sunderland – City to start off with a bang. This is going to be a very difficult task for Sunderland. While many people have tipped Guardiola to find the Premier League very difficult to adapt to, he will have his side ready to go here. Sunderland will be pleased to get one of the toughest places to visit out of the way so early on.

Premier League Preview and Prediction: Newcastle vs Manchester City

Competition: Premier League – Newcastle United vs. Manchester City

Venue: St James’ Park – Tuesday, April 19 – 19:45 BST (14:45 ET)

Match Odds: Newcastle 9/2 – Draw 3/1 – Man City 3/5

Match Preview

Newcastle host Manchester City in an enormous Premier League clash between two sides at either end of the table on Tuesday night.

The Magpies sit 19th coming into the game but gave their survival hopes a huge boost on Saturday as they beat Swansea 3-0 at home. They now sit three points behind Norwich and have to try and take at least a point from this game in hand.

The worry for Newcastle fans will be that City are the one team they wouldn’t want to face, even if they are at home. The Toon Army have a horrendous record against City and have now lost 12 consecutive Premier League games against them.

A 13th-straight loss here would do little to help the Magpies climb out of the bottom three but Rafa Benitez will hope he can inspire his players to pick up what would be a magical win in front of the home crowd on Tuesday.

City travel to St James’ Park in great shape. They are in the semifinals of the Champions League and come into this game off the back of a 3-0 win at Chelsea – their third-straight league vicory.

Manuel Pellegrini only has a few games left in charge of the club but will be looking for his 100th win as City boss in all competitions here.

Embed from Getty Images

City are still battling to cement a place in the top four. They sit third heading into the game, four points ahead of Manchester United in fifth and know three points here would give their chances another major boost.

The reverse fixture saw Newcastle destroyed 6-1 at the Etihad, with Sergio Aguero netting five goals. City haven’t lost to Newcastle in 18 consecutive top flight games and haven’t lost at St James’ Park in 11 years.

Team News

Newcastle still have a huge injury list to deal with as they fight for survival. Nine players are sidelined as Tim Krul, Ivan Toney, Massadio Haidara, Curtis Good, Rob Elliot, Kevin Mbabu, Fabricio Coloccini, Daryl Janmaat, Steven Taylor all remain injured.

Samir Nasri will miss out here for Manchester City after picking up a knock against Chelsea. David Silva is close to returning and might be fit enough to start here, while Raheem Sterling, Vincent Kompany and Gael Clichy are also close to returning.

Key Points

Newcastle’s last five: L/D/L/L/W

Manchester City’s last five: D/L/W/W/W

Key Stat: Newcastle are winless against Manchester City in 18 consecutive Premier League games, losing the last 12 in a row.

Key Player: Sergio Aguero – The City star netted a hat-trick in the weekend win over Chelsea and destroyed Newcastle in the reverse fixture by scoring five in the 6-1 win. Aguero now has ten goals in eight league appearances against the Magpies. If he’s in the mood, Newcastle stand little chance.

Embed from Getty Images

Score Prediction

Newcastle 1-3 Manchester City – This is an enormous game for Newcastle as they look to make the most of their game in hand over Norwich. However, City will arrive in high spirits and will likely prove too strong for the hosts yet again. The Magpies should find the net, and depending on how early they do so, might stand a chance, but City are a lot stronger and should seal three points here.

Premier League Preview and Prediction: Manchester City vs Manchester United

Competition: Premier League – Manchester City vs. Manchester United

Venue: Etihad Stadium – Sunday, March 20 – 16:00 GMT (12:00 ET)

Match Odds: Manchester City 4/5 – Draw 5/2 – Manchester United 7/2

Match Preview

The biggest Premier League game of the weekend sees Manchester City take on Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium in a tie which could have huge bearings on the race for Champions League football.

Manchester City’s title challenge has gone off the boil and they now look like a side who could even struggle to make the top four, let alone compete at the summit.

Manuel Pellegrini’s side have fallen off the pace in recent weeks and are now sitting in fourth place, only two points ahead of West Ham United in 5th. This is a massive game for the Citizens, as a loss to their bitter rivals would leave the sides separated by just one point.

Embed from Getty Images

City come into the game off the back of their 0-0 draw in the Champions League midweek, which was enough to see them advance to the quarter finals of the competition for the first time in their history.

Their last tie outing in the league was the disappointing draw against strugglers Norwich City, a game Pellegrini would have been expecting his side to take all three points in, but an average performance cost them.

Manchester United are still chasing the top four. They currently sit sixth in the table and inconsistent form has been a contributing factor as to why they are in the position of chasing a top four finish, rather than competing for the title.

Embed from Getty Images

Louis Van Gaal’s side were knocked out of the Europa League midweek by Liverpool and will look to bounce back here. A top four finish is not beyond them and given the nature of this unpredictable Premier League season no club can be written off.

The worry for United will be that they have only won one of their last eight away games in the top flight. City have the second-best home record in the division and leaving with three points would be a huge achievement for Van Gaal as his players.

The reverse fixture ended 0-0 at Old Trafford and so hopefully there are more goals on display this time around.

Team News

Manchester City still have some key faces missing from their squad. Kevin De Bruyne, Fabian Delph, Vincent Kompany and Samir Nasri are all expected to miss out while Nicolas Otamendi is a doubt.

Manchester United’s squad is also riddled with injuries. Luke Shaw, Ashley Young, Phil Jones, Wayen Rooney and Will Keane are all out, while Ander Herrera is a doubt.

Key Points

Manchester City’s last five: L/L/L/W/D

Manchester United’s last five: D/L/W/W/L

Key Stat: Manchester City have won six of the last ten meeting between these two sides in all competitions.

Key Player: Sergio Aguero – City’s talisman will need to drive them to win all of their remaining league games if they are to have any chance of winning the title now. He has 16 goals this season and will hope to add to that tally against City’s great rivals.

Embed from Getty Images

Score Prediction

Manchester City 2-1 Manchester United – City to have too much for United and overpower them in the Manchester Derby this weekend. Both of these sides are out of form so it will be a close tie which will perhaps lack the quality we have become so accustom to for a game of this magnitude.

Premier League Preview and Prediction: Norwich vs Manchester City

Competition: Premier League – Norwich City vs. Manchester City

Venue: Carrow Road – Saturday, March 12 – 12:45 GMT (07:45 EST)

Match Odds: Norwich 5/1 – Draw 29/10 – Manchester City 4/7

Match Preview

Norwich City welcome Manchester City to Carrow Road in yet another tough fixture for the East Anglian side, as they try to avoid the dreaded drop back down to the Championship.

The Canaries are struggling to get clear of the bottom three and are conceding too many goals in the process. Stopping teams from scoring goals has been a problem all season and the recent 5-4 home loss to Liverpool typified their defensive struggles.

Embed from Getty Images

They are only one point adrift of Sunderland, who are currently safe, but more alarmingly, they are nine points off 16th-placed Swansea. It looks set to be a four-horse battle for survival and Norwich are in trouble.

Losing seven of their last eight matches in the Premier League is quite frankly shocking and Alex Neil will need a win sooner rather than later as he knows draws aren’t enough at this stage.

Manchester City ended a three-game losing streak in the league with a win against Aston Villa last Saturday to slightly revive their title hopes. Despite that victory, they are still ten points adrift of Leicester but do have a valuable game in hand.

Embed from Getty Images

City are the joint top scorers this year, which only highlights how bad they have been defensively. The frailties at the back should be less of concern now, though, since captain Vincent Kompany has returned from injury and looks sharp.

Things are looking up for City at the moment after a tough period for the club. They lifted the League Cup and look set to advance in the Champions League. On top of that, they are seeing players return to fitness at the right time of the year. With the quality they have, they cannot be ruled out of the title race just yet.

Team News

Norwich may be without Sebastien Bassong and Andre Wisdom, who are both doubtful for the weekend. Steven Naismith, Alex Tettey and Robbie Brady are all out.

Manchester City are without Fabian Delph, Samir Nasri and Kevin De Bruyne, who are all expected back early from injury in early April.

Key Points

Norwich’s last five: L/D/L/L/L

Manchester City’s last five: W/L/L/L/W

Key Stat: Manchester City are unbeaten in their last five away trips to Carrow road, winning four and drawing the other.

Key Player: Sergio Aguero – The Argentine frontman is by far the most influential player in the City squad and his goals have already helped the club to two Premier League titles. They’ll need him on top form to challenge for a third this season. He has five goals in his last five games against Norwich in the league and will expect to get on the scoresheet on Saturday.

Score Prediction

Norwich 0-3 Manchester City – It seems harsh, but Norwich are not a good football team team at the minute, based on recent form, and so we cannot see City dropping any points here. Norwich’s best hope would be for a draw, and even the chances of that result seem slim. City should cruise to victory and keep their faint title hopes alive.

Sergio Aguero admits to having “big game nerves” ahead of League Cup final

Sergio Aguero is not the sort of player who appears to shy away from any occasion but the Manchester City striker has admitted he still gets nervous ahead of big games such as Sunday’s League Cup Final against Liverpool.

The City star is the most lethal striker in Premier League history, based on his incredible goals-per-minute ratio, but he has told Sky Sports that he still gets anxious ahead of big games in the lead up to Sunday’s final at Wembley.

“The butterflies are always there. That’s normal in any game. When it is a final, you just want to get the preparation over and play,” the Argentine forward said.

“Obviously you are wanting to do well, but as soon as you are out on the field that anxiety tends to go away once you start enjoying yourself in the game. Once you get on the ball, the nerves go.”

Embed from Getty Images

Aguero has played in numerous finals during his career, from the Europa League in 2010 to the FIFA World Cup in 2014 and most recently the Copa America last summer.

He might claim to still get nervous ahead of such big games, but his goalscoring record suggests that those nerves rarely affect his performances.

It was Aguero’s goal that booked City’s place in Sunday’s final during the 3-1 win over Everton last month, while he has also found the net eight times in Manchester Derbies against fierce rivals United.

But more importantly, it is Sergio Aguero who scored arguably the most memorable goal in both Manchester City’s and the Premier League’s history when his dramatic stoppage time goal won City their first top flight title in 44 years.

Embed from Getty Images

So if there’s one man who appears to stand up to any occasion, it’s Sergio Aguero.

Sunday’s showdown with Liverpool will give City the chance to gain revenge for the heavy 4-1 drubbing at the hands of the Reds back in November.

Aguero scored City’s only goal that day but it’s not one he remembers for the right reasons. He is looking to make things right this time around and knows that there’s a lot more a stake at Wembley.

Embed from Getty Images

“It is a final, so they will give everything they can,” he said. “It is probably their best chance of a trophy and they will want to make their fans happy by giving their best performance.

“We expect a difficult game bearing in mind the defeat earlier in the season, but we will be going all out for some sort of revenge. They played well, but hopefully we have learnt from that and will get our own back in the final.

“It is very important to win Capital One Cup. It is an important trophy for us, the club have invested a lot to win trophies and it will be marvellous to win it again.”

Premier League Preview and Prediction: Manchester City vs Leicester City

Competition: Premier League – Manchester City vs. Leicester City

Venue: Etihad Stadium – Saturday, February 6 – 12:45 GMT (07:45 ET)

Match Odds: Man City 4/7 – Draw 16/5 – Leicester City 9/2

Match Preview

Manchester City welcome Premier League leaders Leicester City to the Etihad Stadium in the first game of the weekend.

Manuel Pellegrini’s side have been in a great run of form and are unbeaten in their last seven in the league. This is a huge tie which they desperately need to take all three points from to ensure they are in the strongest position possible to regain the title.

Manchester City have not lost in their last nine outings against Leicester in all competitions and haven’t conceded a goal in the last three meetings between the sides.

The Manchester giants come into this one off the back of their hard earned 1-0 away win over Sunderland, a great example of their resilience and proof they are more than capable of grinding out results.

Leicester City are continuing to fly high and are three points clear of Manchester City at the top of the league coming into this one.

They won convincingly last time out against Liverpool with Jamie Vardy scoring that unforgettable screamer and have scored five goals in their last two games.

Claudio Ranieri’s side are unbeaten in 14 of their last 15 away Premier League games and are more than capable of making this a really tough tie for Manchester City.

If Leicester can avoid defeat here they will give themselves a great chance of winning the league but some are still questioning their chances. Leicester on paper have a favourable run in to the end of the season after their next two games and we will really get a feel for how things will end up over the coming weeks.

Team News

Manchester City’s injury list is a concern for Pellegrini but shows the importance of squad depth. Six first team players look set to miss out as Samir Nasri, Wilfried Bony, Kevin DeBruyne, Fabian Delph, Jesus Navas and captain Vincent Kompany are all sidelined.

Leicester City have just the three players who look unlikely to feature here, Daniel Amartey is a doubt while Matthew James and Jeffrey Schlupp are both out.

Key Points

Manchester City’s last five: W/D/W/D/W

Leicester City’s last five: D/W/D/W/W

Key Stat: Solid – Leicester have kept five clean sheets in their last six Premier League games.

Key Player: Sergio Aguero – The Argentine goal-machine has bagged six in his last five Premier League outings and now has 13 for the season. If he continues to find the net at this ratio he could well be the difference for City bringing the title back to the Etihad.

Manchester City 2-1 Leicester City – Pellegrini’s side to edge this one in a tie which could have a serious impact in the race for the title. It should be a thriller and one not to miss.
