Premier League Preview and Prediction: Liverpool vs Stoke

Competition: Premier League – Liverpool vs Stoke City

Venue: Anfield – Tuesday, December 27 – 17:15 GMT (12:15 ET)

Match Odds: Liverpool 2/7 – Draw 9/2 – Stoke 9/1

Match Preview

Liverpool welcome Stoke to Anfield on Tuesday evening in what should be another festive treat for Premier League fans across the globe.

The Reds come into the game in high spirits after a dramatic Merseyside Derby win last Monday and can keep the pressure on league leaders Chelsea with a victory here.

Jurgen Klopp’s men have not lost at home this season and have been finding the net with ease more often than not in front of their own fans.

Liverpool host Manchester City on New Year’s Eve in what is a huge fixture, so they’ll be desperate to take three more points into that crunch tie.

Stoke aren’t expected to offer much of a test and they’ll be deflated given the way they let a two-goal lead slip at home to ten-man Leicester last weekend.

The Potters have been inconsistent all season and have never won a Premier League game at Anfield. In fact, the last time Stoke won a league match at Liverpool was in 1959, so they aren’t expected to leave with three points here.

Liverpool have won four of their last five meetings with Stoke, with the sole defeat in that time coming in that shock 6-1 loss on the final day of the 2014/15 season.

Team News

Liverpool remain without Philippe Coutinho, although the Brazilian playmaker is expected to be back in time for the New Year’s Eve clash with Manchester City. Joel Matip remains a doubt, so Ragnar Klavan may continue at the back, while Daniel Sturridge will be pushing for a start after making a good impact off the bench in the Merseyside Derby.

Stoke have a host of first-team players out of this one. Marko Arnautovic is suspended, while Ibrahim Afellay, Jack Butland, Geoff Cameron, Phil Bardsley and Stephen Ireland are all ruled out. Xherdan Shaqiri was benched for the draw against Leicester but may return to the starting lineup here.

Key Points

Liverpool’s last five: W/L/D/W/W

Stoke’s last five: W/W/L/D/D

Key Stat: Liverpool are unbeaten in their last 15 home games in the Premier League – the longest active streak in the top flight.

Key Player: Sadio Mane – The Senegalese winger has probably been Liverpool’s best player this season. He’s the top scorer with eight in the Premier League and will look to continue his fine record at Anfield, having contributed to eight goals in seven home league games since joining the club.

Score Prediction

Liverpool 2-0 Stoke – Liverpool have responded well since their shock defeat at Bournemouth, keeping back-to-back clean sheets since Simon Mignolet earned his place back in goal. The Reds are expected to get past Stoke without too much difficulty here, and can keep the pressure on Chelsea with another three points.

Premier League Preview and Prediction: Manchester United vs Stoke

Competition: Premier League – Manchester United vs. Stoke City

Venue: Old Trafford – Sunday, October 2 – 12:00 BST (07:00 ET)

Match Odds: Man Utd 1/3 – Draw 4/1 – Stoke 8/1

Match Preview

Manchester United welcome Stoke to Old Trafford in Sunday’s early Premier League kickoff, with the Red Devils looking to build on last weekend’s huge win over Leicester against a struggling Stoke side.

Jose Mourinho’s men overcame a terrible week to beat Leicester 4-1 last time out and then followed it up with a 1-0 home win over FC Zorya in the Europa League on Thursday.

They are heavy favourites for Sunday’s contest and should prove too strong for a Stoke side that has yet to win this term.

United are six points off leaders Manchester City going into the weekend and need to close that gap to three before their rivals kick off at Spurs later on Sunday.

For Stoke, things are looking very worrying. They have failed to win any of their six league games so far and now have to try and win at a ground they haven’t won at since 1976.

Mark Hughes is a man under pressure. His side aren’t performing anywhere near well enough and will be disappointed to have conceded in the last minute of last weekend’s 1-1 draw with West Brom.

Stoke are 19th in the table and looking like relegation candidates at this early stage. Sunday’s game will be a real test but they need to show they are willing to fight for their manager if they are to take anything from the match.

United won 3-0 in the corresponding fixture last season but have not managed to complete a league double over the Potters since 2013.

Team News

Jose Mourinho is set to be without Luke Shaw again, with the left-back struggling with illness. Bastian Schweinsteiger is still out of the first-team picture and won’t make the squad. There will be plenty of focus on Wayne Rooney’s position again, with a place on the bench most likely. Though he did come on to assist the only goal in Thursday’s win over FC Zorya, giving Mourinho a bit of a headache.

Stoke have three players ruled out here, with Stephen Ireland, Ibrahim Afellay and Jack Butland all sidelined. Jakob Haugaard is a doubt and is unlikely to feature. On-loan City forward Wilfried Bony will lead the Potters’ attack.

Key Points

Man United’s last five: W/W/L/L/W

Stoke’s last five: L/L/L/L/D

Key Stat: Manchester United are unbeaten at home to Stoke in 16 games in all competitions, winning their last 13 in a row in front of their own fans.

Key Player: Paul Pogba – The world’s most expensive player finally got his first goal last weekend and will now be looking to kick on with another impressive display against a struggling Stoke side here. If he can find space, Pogba will undoubtedly control the game from midfield for the home side.

Score Prediction

Manchester United 2-0 Stoke City – Unfortunately for Stoke, their troubles don’t look set to improve on Sunday, with the home side heavily expected to seal all three points. United impressed against Leicester last time out and will now be looking to put in an equally impressive showing against a struggling Potters team. It should be a fairly comfortable home victory.

Premier League Preview and Prediction: Stoke City vs Manchester City

Competition: Premier League – Stoke City vs. Manchester City

Venue: Bet365 Stadium – Saturday, August 20 – 12:30 BST (07:30 ET)

Match Odds: Stoke City 19/5 – Draw  14/5 – Manchester City 7/10

Match Preview

Stoke City welcome Manchester City to the newly named Bet365 Stadium in Pep Guardiola’s first away trip in the Premier League, and its arguably one of the hardest places to visit.

Stoke will feel disappointed with the opening day draw with Middlesbrough. Albeit a tricky away trip to a newly promoted team, Mark Hughes will feel like his side could have potentially come away with three points.

It will be a huge task for Stoke to try and improve on last year with the only notable signing thus far being Joe Allen from Liverpool. Their respectable total of 51 points last season will be a tough tally to beat.

However, consistency may be key for the Potters as they have managed to avoid any major exits and are looking to bolster their squad as far as we are aware. A mid-table finish would be a good season for Stoke this year.

Manchester City have spent big to support Pep Guardiola’s quest for a debut season Premier League title and the bookmakers have them as favourites at the moment.

A dominant display against Sunderland last Saturday was expected but they were far from convincing in the final third, which is not a common fate in Guardiola sides.

However, the main talking point from the opening weekend was the omission of Joe Hart from the starting line up, which has seen the rumours of an imminent move doing the rounds.

Guardiola’s arrival promises excitement and a forward thinking approach that should refresh the league as a whole, but he risks destabilising a well-assembled squad with big decisions like the Hart omission.

Team News

Stoke City’s Stephen Ireland and Ibrahim Afellay are out till the new year with a broken leg and a ruptured ACL respectively. Glen Johnson has a thigh muscle strain and the game comes to soon for his return. Jack Butland could make his return from an ankle injury that kept him out of the Euros, but he is a doubt.

Manchester City have three injuries to deal with as Leroy Sane is still without a return date on his hamstring. Vincent Kompany is still out with a thigh strain and Ilkay Gundogan has a knee injury. Joe Hart is expected to stay on the bench with a move seeming closer by the day.

Key Points

Stoke City’s form: D

Manchester City’s form: W

Key Stat: Sergio Aguero has scored six goals in his six appearances against Stoke City.

Key Player: Raheem Sterling – After a Euros to forget for the young England winger, he was clearly out to impress on his new manager’s debut. It will be interesting to see if he can fulfil his full potential under Pep Guardiola.

Score Prediction

Stoke City 1-3 Manchester City  Stoke away is always a tough ask, but City’s dominance in possession last weekend should provide an indication for how this game will be played. Expect Stoke to be a threat on the counter but City should win comfortably.

Competition: Premier League – Stoke City vs. Tottenham Hotspur

Venue: Britannia Stadium – Monday, April 18 – 20:00 BST (15:00 ET)

Match Odds: Stoke City 7/2 – Draw 13/5 – Tottenham Hotspur 4/5

Match Preview

Stoke City host Tottenham in this week’s Monday night Premier League clash as title-chasing Spurs will look to keep the pressure on Leicester through the final stretch of the campaign.

The Potters have been refreshing at times this season, playing an aggressive style of football which has broken the old style set by Tony Pulis. Mark Hughes really has to be credited for the attractive football they now play and he will look back over the season as a successful one.

Saying that, recent form has been less than ideal as they have only won once in their last five in the top flight. They will be looking to make sure their hard work this season results in a top half finish, which is more than deserved.

Stoke come into the game off the back of their 4-1 thumping at the hands of Liverpool last week and will need to avoid a second-straight heavy defeat to Spurs here.

Tottenham on the other hand will want to push Leicester City all the way in this year’s title race. The Lilywhites have their best ever chance to win the league and the 3-0 win over Manchester United last Sunday illustrates they are not giving up easily.

Being the highest scorers and having the best defence would usually win you the title but this year Leicester’s incredible success has kept them ahead of Spurs. They look set to remain above the North London outfit for the rest of the way but nothing can be ruled out.

Spurs are relying on a slip up from the Foxes on Sunday but Spurs fans have plenty of reason for optimism even if they don’t win the title this year. You get the feeling they are a team that is destined for years at the top, with an excellent young side being coached by an excellent manager in Mauricio Pochettino.

Team News

Stoke City will be without Jack Butland (ankle), Jon Walters (knee), Glen Johnson (knee), Marc Wilson (knee). Glenn Whelan (back), Marko Arnautovic (knee), Marc Muniesa (knock) are all doubts. Erik Pieters is suspended.

Tottenham Hotspur are definitely without Nabil Bentaleb who has a knee injury. Clinton N’Jie (knee) and Harry Kane (hip) are doubts but the latter is expected to still start up front as he has done in every game up to this point.

Key Points

Stoke City’ last five: D/L/W/D/L

Tottenham Hotspur’s last five: D/W/W/D/W

Key Stat: Tottenham have only lost once in their last fifteen away trips in the Premier League.

Key Player: Dele Alli – The young England midfielder has not ceased to amaze this year and has a deserved nomination for the PFA Young Player of the Year award. His partnership with Harry Kane may prove the difference once again in another huge game for Spurs.

Score Prediction

Stoke City 0-3 Tottenham Hotspur – Tottenham have been – depending what way you look at it – the Premier League side with the most quality this year, easily playing the most attractive style of football. We expect a routine victory on Monday night at Stoke to keep faint title hopes alive.

Match Odds: Leicester City Evens Draw 12/5 Stoke City  11/4

Match Preview

Surprise title contenders Leicester City welcome Stoke City to the King Power Stadium on Saturday, looking to get back to the top of the Premier League table, while Stoke have European ambitions on their minds.

Claudio Ranieri’s troops have slipped up in recent weeks, with the latest setback a 2-0 defeat to Tottenham in their FA Cup replay on Wednesday.

One win in five has seen them wobble at top of the table, but that win did come against other surprise title contenders Tottenham last week, having now played Spurs three times in ten days.

Riyad Mahrez has missed crucial penalties against Aston Villa and Bournemouth in recent games, causing them to miss out on four points as they disappointingly drew both fixtures.

Some will see this as their easiest match in coming weeks, with Liverpool heading to Leicester next, followed by trips to Manchester City and Arsenal after. Now is the real test of their title credentials.

Stoke are fighting for their own objectives. They sit in seventh place and are in the semifinal of the League Cup, while they also advanced comfortably into the fourth round of the FA Cup.

The Potters have been on a good run, with three wins in their last five Premier League matches.Their latest fixture saw them play out a hard earned draw with Arsenal at the Britannia.

Mark Hughes deserves massive credit for the job he has done at Stoke, with the flair on the wings and solid defensive setup helping the Potters to improve greatly.

Although away from home they struggle, with only four wins in twelve matches this season. They have only won back-to-back away matches once this season.

With Jack Butland in goal they have a stubborn keeper who has kept five clean sheets on the road this season and he will hope for another here.

The reverse fixture saw Leicester draw 2-2 at the Britannia, having been 2-0 down but goals from Riyad Mahrez and Jamie Vardy meant they travelled home with a well earned point. This looks like it could be full of more goals.

Team News

Leicester City are expected to recall N’Golo Kante, Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez to the side after all three started Wednesday’s FA Cup game on the bench. Matty James could return to the bench after recovering from his serious ACL injury.

Stoke City look set to be without Geoff Cameron (ankle), while Xherdan Shaqiri is pushing to be fit after a hamstring injury has forced him to miss the last few matches.

Key Points

Leicester City’s last five: L/D/D/W/D

Stoke City’s last five: W/W/L/W/D

Key Stat: Leicester haven’t beaten Stoke at home since 2006.

Key Player: N’Golo Kante – The Frenchman has had a very impressive debut season in England following his summer switch from Caen. With vital tackles and his composure on the ball, he has been one of the league’s best midfielders this term. With Stoke’s endless energy, he will need to be switched on to get the Foxes back on top.

Score Prediction

Leicester City 2-0 Stoke City – The Tinkerman will almost have a fully fit squad for the visit of Stoke, and so a crack of the whip on his team selection is likely, in order to maintain their focus on staying in the top four. Stoke offer so much going forward with the quality in their ranks but Leicester need this win before three very tough fixtures.

Match Preview

Stoke City play host to league leaders Arsenal on Sunday afternoon in a fixture that has seen the home side win in each of their last six Premier League meetings.

Stoke have recorded three wins in their last five in the league with a very impressive young and attacking side.

Mark Hughes has transformed the style of football the Potters play and they may even be able to outplay the Gunners on Sunday afternoon. How times change.

Stoke City’s Premier League record: P21 – W9 – D5 – L7

Arsenal have suffered a whole host of injuries over the last few years and this term has been no different. Star players like Santi Cazorla and Alexis Sanchez have been on the sidelines for extended periods of time and the Gunners are perhaps starting to struggle without them, having only won two of their last four.

They came from behind twice to lead at Anfield on Wednesday night but a late Joe Allen goal saw the game finish 3-3. Arsene Wenger will have been disappointed with that result and will need to try and rally his troops for what is always a tough trip to the Britannia for Arsenal.

Importantly, they last beat Stoke away in the league in February 2010, which is quite astonishing for a big club like Arsenal.

It is well documented that this is Arsenal’s best chance of a title in years and the injury-stricken Gunners will need every point to win the coveted Premier League crown in what looks set to be a tight title race until the last gasp.

Arsenal’s Premier League record: P21 – W13 – D4 – L4

The reverse fixture between the two at the Emirates ended 2-0 to Arsenal, with goals from Theo Walcott and Olivier Giroud sealing three points for the Gunners in September.

Team News

Stoke City may be without Stephen Ireland, Marc Muniesa and Geoff Cameron, who are all doubtful. Jon Walters is supposedly out with a knee injury and Ryan Shawcross is set to be out for three months with a back injury.

Arsenal are without Jack Wilshere, who is still suffering with a leg injury. Tomas Rosicky, Danny Welbeck, Francois Coquelin and Santi Cazorla are all out with knee injuries. Alexis Sanchez is nearing a return after a long spell on the sidelines and could make the squad here.

Key Points

Stoke City’s last five: L/W/W/L/W

Arsenal’s last five: W/L/W/W/D

Key Stat: Stoke City are unbeaten in their last five matches against Arsenal in all competitions.

Key Player: Mesut Ozil – The silky German has been quiet recently but has been sensational this season. Arsenal need him to regain his consistency if they are to win the title this term.

Score Prediction

Stoke City 0-1 Arsenal – Both sides are usually defensively sound so a low scoring affair is a good bet. We do expect Arsenal to take all three points however, despite Stoke’s strength at home.

Venue: The Britannia Stadium – Saturday, December 26 – 12:45 GMT (07:45 ET)

Match Odds: Stoke 21/10 – Draw 21/10 – Man United 11/8

Match Preview

Stoke welcome Manchester United to the Britannia to kickstart a full day of Premier League action on Boxing Day in the early kickoff.

Both sides will be desperate to take three points from this one but there is undoubtedly more pressure on Manchester United, and Louis Van Gaal in particular, as failure to win here could cost the Dutch manager his job.

Van Gaal has not seen his United side win in six games in all competitions and back-to-back Premier League defeats have seen the Red Devils fall out of the top four at the midpoint of the campaign.

A 2-1 home defeat to Norwich last weekend was a terrible result and if United perform as badly here, Stoke will surely seal all three points.

The Potters have enjoyed a solid season so far but will be disappointed not to be in the top half of the table at Christmas. They beat Manchester City 2-0 at the start of the month in a fine display but have drawn at West Ham and then lost to Crystal Palace since then.

Embed from Getty Images

Mark Hughes will be desperate to see Stoke rally to beat United for just the second time in Premier League history here and the home crowd will no doubt make it a tough afternoon for the visitors.

Team News

Stoke have six injury worries ahead of the meeting with Manchester United. Geoff Cameron and Marc Muniesa are both ruled out, as are Shay Given, Stephen Ireland, Peter Odemwingie and Peter Crouch. Former United striker Mame Biram Diouf could return to the side to spearhead the attack.

Manchester United boss Louis Van Gaal is under immense pressure and so changes are expected in what is a must-win game for the Dutch coach. Bastian Schweinsteiger will miss out as he serves the final match of his three-game suspension, while midfield partner Morgan Schneiderlin is a doubt as he struggles with a hip injury. Luke Shaw, Jesse Lingard, Matteo Darmian, Marcos Rojo and Antonio Valencia are all definitely out through injury.

Key Points

Stoke’s last five: W/L/W/D/L

Manchester United’s last five: W/D/D/L/L

Key Stat: Stoke have only beaten Manchester United in one of their last 16 meetings in all competitions.

Key Player: Marko Arnautovic – The Austrian attacker is often inconsistent but put on a fine display when Stoke beat Manchester City 2-0 at the start of the month. If he can perform to those levels here, United will be in trouble.

Score Prediction

Stoke 2-1 Manchester United – This should be a full charged and competitive match between two sides desperate to win. It will be interesting to see how the United players perform, considering the pressure their manager is under, but the home side have to be favoured based on the poor form United find themselves in.

Match Odds: Stoke City 4/1 – Draw 14/5 – Manchester City 4/6

Match Preview

Manchester City travel to Stoke in Saturday’s lunchtime kickoff as the visitors look to give themselves some breathing space at the top of the Premier League table for a couple of hours at least.

Stoke City will have other plans though as they will see this match as a free swing at a big club and they might see this as something of a ‘nothing to lose’ fixture.

With 12 of their 21 points coming away from home, the Britannia hasn’t been as intimidating this year as it usually is. It did, however, see the Potters beat champions Chelsea last time out 1-0 and a similar result would delight the home crowd as well as former City boss Mark Hughes.

Stoke City’s Premier League record: P14 – W5 – D4 – L5

Stoke are currently the lowest scoring team in the league, having netted just 11 goals, and will put that down as the main reason they are not higher in the table. More success in front of goal could see them break into the top ten but that will be a tough task against the Citizens this week.

The Potters are on a high as they managed to book a place in the League Cup semifinals with a 2-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday night and will hope to keep momentum building.

Manchester City come into this match without a win from last three on the road, which makes it difficult to understand how they find themselves at the top of the Premier League.

City are the highest scorers in the top flight this season (30) and it’s fortunate that they are, given their defensive frailties when captain Vincent Kompany isn’t available.

Without the absences of David Silva, Sergio Aguero and the aforementioned Kompany, City always look a better side and having all three of those back and fit again will be a real boost for the side. Silva is back in action, with Aguero also improving his match fitness levels so things are looking up for Manuel Pellegrini’s men.

Manchester City’s Premier League record: P14 – W9 – D2 – L3

With just two points separating the top four at the moment, City will settle for nothing less than a win on Saturday as they look to take a grip of the league with the busy Christmas schedule about to get underway.

This will be the 15th Premier League clash between the two sides. City have only lost two of the previous 14 meetings and will be hoping for a repeat performance from their last visit to the Britannia as they won 4-1 in February.

Team News

Stoke City are without Shay Given, Peter Crouch and Peter Odemwingie through injury. Marc Muniesa is a doubt but could play a part.

Manchester City will be without several players as Fernando, Jesus Navas, Vincent Kompany, Samir Nasri and Pablo Zabaleta are all suffering with injuries. Joe Hart, Eliaquim Mangala and Sergio Aguero are all doubts but should feature. David Silva returned to the team on Tuesday and will start here.

Key Points

Stoke City’s last five: L/D/W/W/L

Manchester City’s last five: D/W/D/L/W

Key Stat: Manchester City have only lost one of their last 16 meetings with Stoke City.

Key Player: Kevin De Bruyne – Summer signing De Bruyne has been sensational since joining from Wolfsburg and is adding some vital goals from midfield (4) as well as racking up six assists so far. Expect him to be influential on Saturday.

Score Prediction

Stoke City 0-1 Manchester City – Matches between these two are usually low scoring affairs and we’re not expecting that to change too much here. We expect City to win but not by much. This should be a tough game for both, and should make for good viewing.

Premier League Preview and Prediction: Stoke City vs Chelsea

Competition: Premier League – Stoke City vs. Chelsea

Venue: Britannia Stadium – Saturday, November 7 – 17:30 GMT (12:30 ET)

Match Odds: Stoke 13/5 – Draw 12/5 – Chelsea 21/20

Match Preview

Stoke City host Chelsea at the Britannia Stadium on Saturday evening for a crucial Premier League clash, with the visitors desperately hoping to recover from a poor start to the season.

The Potters have endured an inconsistent opening 11 games, with just three wins so far and they have failed to score in their last two games, leaving them fourteenth in the table.

Their performance away at Newcastle in last weekend’s 0-0 draw certainly wasn’t glamorous, but it was a valuable point nonetheless, given the manner of the 2-0 home defeat to Watford the week before.

Mark Hughes has his side playing a generally more entertaining brand of football than they did under Tony Pulis, but the fans will be hoping it doesn’t mean sacrificing results and Stoke need to find some consistency.

Stoke’s Premier League record: P11 – W3 – D4 – L4

It’s a desperate situation for visitors Chelsea, who arrive in Stoke following their worst ever start to a Premier League season, which has left them in the unfamiliar depths of fifteenth place.

And just when it seems like it can’t get any worse for manager Jose Mourinho, it somehow does. The 3-1 defeat at home to Liverpool last weekend was followed by the news that he has been given a one-match stadium ban for his behaviour in the loss to West Ham two weeks ago.

Despite the doom and gloom surrounding Stamford Bridge, the Blues did secure a vital 2-1 win at home to Dynamo Kiev in their Champions League group stage on Wednesday thanks to a late goal from Willian.

Chelsea’s Premier League record: P11 – W3 – D2 – L6

The last Premier League meeting between these two sides was a 2-1 home win for Chelsea in April, while the last league meeting at Stoke was also a success for the Blues, winning 2-0 in December 2014.

However, Stoke will take confidence from their performance just under two weeks ago, as they knocked Chelsea out of the League Cup via a 5-4 penalty shootout win, after the game had finished 1-1.

Team News

Stoke goalkeeper Shay Given (knee) and defender Marc Muniesa (hamstring) are out. Geoff Cameron will return to the squad following a thigh strain which ruled him out of the last two games. Phil Bardsley is also available again after serving a one-match ban. Midfielder Marco van Ginkel is on-loan from Chelsea and is ineligible to play against his parent club.

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho will not be able to attend the game after he received a one-match stadium ban for his behaviour in the West Ham game. Thibaut Courtois remains a long-term absentee, while Radamel Falcao is out with a muscular problem. Defender Branislav Ivanovic returned to training this week after recovering from a hamstring injury.

Key Points

Stoke’s last five in the Premier League: W/W/W/L/D

Chelsea’s last five in the Premier League: D/L/W/L/L

Key Stat: Stoke have only beaten Chelsea once in the Premier League (D3, L11) a 3-2 success back in December 2013.

Key Player: Willian – The Brazilian has been one of Chelsea’s only consistent performers in this campaign. With five goals in all competitions, he’s the top scorer at the club this season and they’ll certainly need him to continue his fine form.

Stoke City 1-1 Chelsea  This is bound to be a tight game with so much at for Mourinho and his Chelsea side. We could see a repeat result of the League Cup game 11 days ago.

Chelsea among Premier League trio chasing young Red Bulls star

New York Red Bulls defender Matt Miazga is a player with a seemingly limitless ceiling. His performances this season, for both club and country, have seen his talents recognised from across the pond as Chelsea are reportedly now keen on securing his services.

Miazga may only be 20-years-old but he has been labelled as “by far the best young prospect in MLS” by a league scout who went on to add: “He’s got all the potential to be one of the best defenders in the world for over a decade,” according to Four Four Two.

The same publication claims Chelsea, along with Leicester City and Stoke, are interested in bringing the Polish-American centre-back to the Premier League in the near future.

Embed from Getty Images

Miazga’s performances at the U20 World Cup with the United States in the summer proved his quality on the world stage and that seems to have attracted interest from Europe.

The player himself is remaining grounded for now, telling Four Four Two: “I’m aware of all those rumors, but at the moment I don’t want to focus on that.

“The ultimate goal is to play on the highest level, but right now I’m happy in New York. I can still grow here and become a better player. When the time comes – I will be ready for Europe.”

The 6ft 4in youngster has yet to decide whether to represent the US or Poland at senior international level with both nations desperate for his services. US U20 coach Tab Ramos recently labelled Miazga as “the future of American soccer”.

And a similar battle looks set to follow at club level as Miazga has plenty of suitors chasing his talents. Chelsea are currently the biggest club linked with the young Red Bulls star and a move could come in January.

Miagza himself has admitted he’s a fan of the Premier League but is remaining grounded for now as he looks to help the Red Bulls to a first ever MLS Cup title in the next month.

“The EPL is a very intriguing proposition. I love that league – it’s very competitive and there’s a lot of passion involved. Hopefully one day I will have an opportunity to play there. I believe my skillset fits the way football is played there.”

Should Chelsea make a move for Matt Miazga in January? Is the Red Bulls defender “the future of American soccer”?
